Children’s Week and the memories of School of Hard Knocks spurred a little bloodlust recently.

Prelimnar tells me that Blizzard has encouraged him to love Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley through immersion therapy related to the achievement, and I guess it was a similar thing for me.

I have always loved WSG, but as a rule, Alliance have fared badly and end up running around like headless chooks.

I have been around Aussie Rules football long enough to know you “Play the ball, not the man”, but experience has shown that most ignore the “ball” in WSG, much preferring to shirt-front the players even when it means certain death.

However, being ranged and squishy, I have always played at range.  So when a flag drops, I am lucky if I can get to it before it despawns let alone beat a teammate (or the gods forbid and enemy) to pick it up.

As I say, Children’s Week reignited my love of WSG and my desire to get my hands on the flag.

Not the Horde flag, OUR FLAG!

So for the last couple of weeks, you could be pretty sure that I would be in WSG.  If I only got to do one thing, it was one WSG.

As the days have gone on, I have picked up some warriors in arms, Streakers players that either love WSG, or just felt the desire to help me reach my goals.

The fruits of my labor paid off last night (more…)

Gratuitous naked Dwarf... proof I'm not racist

You kill a mob… cloth

You kill a boss… cloth

You loot a chest… cloth

You kill a player… a few sliver and a kick up the arse.

The Emperor’s new clothes

This is what I don’t understand, why is it, that that cloth wearing fool of a Warlock that tried to take down the widdly-biddy-fireball-throwing Gnome Mage, can’t spare me some cloth? (more…)

Battlegrounds: Don’t give up

No serious, don’t give up.

I’ve had two experiences in the last couple of days that just reinforce this.

WSG – Losing in style

The 1st was a loss in WSG.

It started as a typical loss… 12 people protecting our flag carrier, 2 of us trying to retrieve our flag, while the flag carrier bitched at us (the 2 of us trying to take our flag back from 5) endlessly.

I did explain at one point that if everyone wasn’t on D we might have had a chance… which he scoffed at, as he was too important…

You know…

I need 12 people to protect me, and 12 people to rescue our flag… why are you two so fail?

I started Saturday as the most hugged blogger of 2010 and ended the day as the blogger most in need of hugs 2011.

No, don’t panic, I’m fine, happy and healthy, if a little tired.

This is a story of support during depression with a little WoW twist thrown in.

As you may be aware I spoke a lot about depression, mine and my family’s back in Movember. I mentioned then that it can be a long hard journey and it is.

Saturday afternoon I was alerted by the police to my ex-wife’s latest suicide intentions. She had made it public via Facebook and the level of support and concern from her friends was astounding, with those that know her boyfriend or I,  contacting us and those that don’t contacting the police who then contacted me.

Truly it was a wonderful thing to see so many people going to such lengths to save her life.

My evening was spent fielding Facebook enquiries and phone calls from friends and international family.

Remember, no matter how dark it gets, no matter how alone you feel, you are not alone, you are loved by all the people whose lives you have touched.

We will not be better of without my ex-wife, we will not be better off without YOU.

Those Movember posts…

Me on the otherhand…

Well there is a WoW argument for being better off without me.. (more…)

Throw them to the lions

A combination of work (why do we always work longer and harder after holidays? Is it punishment? Is it to make up for all of those lost days of productivity? I have come to believe that holidays are an illusion) and, the gods forbid, writing some blog posts, have meant that my play time has been a bit limited.

I don’t quite seem to have the time to complete an instance (I might if I hadn’t waited 40 minutes in the queue), finish some dailies, win a BG, etc…

Pirates can't have taken my bandwidth, must be the NINJAS!

I won’t even mention the 8pm ninja lag… It’s lag that isn’t visible via ping tests etc, often WoW tells me I have a comfortable 300ms ping, yet it will take some 15 seconds to do anything… Anything!

This has lead to some unsatisfactory, well unfulfilled, time in game (more…)

Tol’Barad: WTF?

Tol’Barad is (has) a PvP zone.

I like PvP.

I like PvP so much that after getting to 85, all I have done on Gnomeaggedon is PvP.

I did try leveling via Battlegrounds with Squidly, but what I found was soul destroying. One SotA involved one player boarding a Demo (me), 2 players fighting the Horde (ineffectively) and 12 players… don’t know what they were doing, but they weren’t near the action. After 4 similar BGs I gave up and quested with Squidly.

As I mentioned earlier, I PvP’d with Gnomeaggedon once I hit level 85… for 2 weeks straight. Heaps of the 15 man’s led by Staylaughing/Sen’jin from QueueQ.

We averaged about 50 honor each battle, but they were fun and it was an honor being a part of the crew helping Qesta/Frostwolf achieve Battlemaster.

There were also a few Alterac Valleys thrown in, at about 100 honor per battle they are still about the best honor, although the Horde did force many a turtle.

Randoms were reasonable honor, 45 for a loss, 100 for a win, 200 for the 1st win of the day.

Call to Arms weekends were a write-off – no bonus honor for the Alliance, just for the Horde – not going to happen!

I have run a great mix of BGs growing to love the new ones.

I have singlehandedly gained the Horde Slayer achievement for my (old) guild.

I have collected a full set of the honor PvP gear, via, believe it or not… PvP.

Which is where Tol’Barad gets my blood boiling, gets me cursing my non-PvPing mates and sending frustrated twitters to Blizzard (more…)

Gnome Bait

I mentioned the other day about sacrificing a Gnome for the success of a raid, but I’m also a great believer in sacrificing a Gnome to win a BG.

I’m not talking about a pointless waste of life, of charging into an impossible fight throwing a life to the wind, I’m talking about a calculated sacrifice designed for further the objectives of a team.

Before I go any further some disclaimers…

  1. A Gnome was harmed (repeatedly) and occasionally killed in the making of this post.
  2. Many Horde were frustrated to the point of losing.
  3. Many games won by the Alliance and lost by the Horde.

When I play in a BG, I play with one objective in mind, to win. (more…)

Livingbomb is a STD

My first appreciation of the power of STDs in WoW came from one of those (supposedly) hated sources. In fact it caused me to subscribe to a blog that really I have little to nothing in common with, yet still read and joust with on a frequent basis.

Killing ‘em Slowly was the blog and the post I read was from the dirty filthy Lock of the duo. It was a perfect example of the spreading of STDs and the (im)moral victories that can be obtained through them. We can’t find that post, maybe my memory is failing, but I still clearly remember a post where a boss was killed just as the last raid member went down, one last tick of a dot from a now deceased Lock and the victory was theirs.

Of course a pure, pious, pulpit wielding Gnome like myself would never live amongst those with STDs, let alone gain one and spread it. Spread it not only without conscience, bit with glee.

No, no, never!

Never would we hear of the pure engaging in underworld activities. Never would they be caught in the arms of an illicit lover.

However, I would engage in Leprechaun like terrorist activities involving the laying of time delayed bombs that rip the face off my opponents and their celebrating friends.

You see, I am a Fire Mage

lol… get it?

Fire

Mage

Fire Mage!

Yeah, OK, whatever… I can’t be held accountable for how highbrow your sense of humor is.

Really, what did you expect from a Gnome… /serious? (more…)
