So Cynwise & I have covered how to Ninja a node, now is the time to introduce, or refresh you in the A.B.C.’s of guarding a node

We all know our A.B.C.’s right…

They are…

A… B… C… blah, blah, blah… Next time won’t you sing with me?

Sorry I’ve been hearing that a lot over the last few years and I tend to zone out after C… I am going to assume you will do the same.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

A is for AoE

I can’t remember if I mentioned AOE in my Ninja post, well without the prerequisite expletive attached, not only in my blog posts, but also in BG chat.

AoE’s serve two purposes, both with the same end – to protect the flag (more…)

Mmmm.. I smell a Mage Ninja opportunity...

Cynwise taught you the basics of being a flag ninja.

Am I that far behind... really?

On a side note… I looked at my feed reader and there are 117 posts for Cynwise. I’m hoping this is a result of blog consolidation and not my slackness… although there is no question I am way behind.

Anyway, back on topic, after he posted, we discussed on Twitter how easy it is to fall into the “grand scheme” strategy of BGs and miss the smaller tactical details.

So if he can take it down to the detail of being a Flag Ninja, I can take it down one step further (I’m a Gnome, it doesn’t go down much more than that), to being a Flag Ninja: Mage Style.

This post is also for non-Mages, you need to understand your enemies intent (more…)

Ages ago I spoke of how WSG can be like a game of Soccer (or football for some of you).

Sometimes the best games are the 0/0 draws. Sure not from the honor perspective and I know that without the “right” mindset it’s nothing but a frustrating waste of 25 minutes of your life.

For me it’s an exhilarating match off between two evenly matched teams. Yes this might well include bots and AFKers, but whatever the case, you can’t get much more even than 0/0

I’ve never really thought of Strand of the Ancients in the same way. I much prefer the 6 or 13 minute game, where we knock over the attack on the relic in 3 minutes, but you know, some games change things.

While running a few SotAs with Tickk, we ended up against the 1st team that could hold us back. We were staring down the barrel of a 10 minute wash, but managed to touch the relic at the 9 minute, 26 second mark.

We’re screwed!

The 1st thought that crossed my mind was that if these Horde were good enough to hold us that long, they were good enough to achieve a 3 minute attack.

Sure enough they got off to a pretty good start, but to give my team credit, no one gave up. We stayed focused on the Demos, we CC’d and destroyed. We kept them of the graveyards for as long as possible.

Or Not!

Unbelievably we held them for the full 10 minutes, so yes, it was a win for us not a 10/10 draw, but this game stands out among many SotAs for the challenge, for my allies, for my enemies.

I can handle games like this, but then I have a different mindset to many in the battlegrounds.

Guarding the Bees

As my dear, departed Dingo would say…

I’m guarding the bees… again?

Actually I wont say what he says next, I do still have a few well worn if occasionally broken standards.

Ohhh… he’s dear because, well he awesome…

and he’s departed because he’s gone to the dark side…

Just stand here and scream

When Dingo joined us first for battlegrounds, he was a little undergeared, well ok he had no PvP gear.

At the time we were running Arathi Basin over and over, so he was immediately posted as our Stables guard.

While he was getting honor, often his only action was the odd /dance.

If he saw more action that that, at least early on, his incoming call was usually accompanied by a “rezzing now”.

Guarding nodes was Guarding the Bees… somehow that makes it better for me, though it did make it worse for him (more…)

Are you feeling lucky punk?

I harangued an old guildy, Tickk, enough to drag him away from SWTOR for a couple of nights.

He hasn’t played in a while, his gear is just a little bit behind, so when the question of whether to random the BGs or enjoy the SotA weekend, we went with SotA.

One of the good things about SotA is that is more forgiving of less geared players. It’s less Player vs. Player, more Machine vs. Player (and Player vs. Machine).

The other thing is that 2 coordinating Frost Mages can cause a lot of havoc in SotA (more…)

This post started as a comment at Punt This! on Warsong Gulch 101, but I thought I’d write it up properly and add some badly composed images… you know, my hallmark.

This is my standard flag carrying strategy in WSG.

It’s the one that proves 2 things.

  1. Mages (make that any clothy) can flag carry
  2. Horde Graveyard is a good way to come.

I have probably returned 8-9 out of 10 flags this way. You are usually in your flag room before the Horde knows you took the flag, so with the Horde flag in your base, the only other thing required is the return of your flag.

I often find that after running this once in a BG (assuming the EFC is taken down fast for a quick cap), that all opposition evaporates. I guess when there is a flag cap within the first few minutes, and they didn’t see the flag carrier, they just figure they wont see them again and it is already game over.

This is also a good strategy for grabbing their flag just before they cap your flag.  They tend to mill about in disbelief that they couldn’t cap, and then split their forces in several directions trying to catch you.

This is a guide written about me, a Mage, A Gnome Mage, and my flag running strategy from my perspective. That said, my non-Mage buddies do the same thing if I am ever too slow, or choose to cover them instead.. Warlocks, Disc Priests, Resto Shaman they all do fine (more…)

No Mage Food = No Mage Heals!

Let me rephrase that for those Mages amongst us without an Arcane Intellect buff

No Mage Food = No Mage Heals!

Ohh that came out the same… I guess I don’t think it’s that hard to understand.

For a while there I was getting so annoyed (and it isn’t the 1st time I have been annoyed about this), that as soon as I zoned into a BG and saw a Mage, but no table I would write in BG chat…

No Mage Food = No Mage Heals!

I spent years achieving the achievement and all I got was this lousy title…

Finally, finally, with a lot of help from my friends and awesome support from the PuGs, I got Resilient Victory,

the last achievement I needed for Master of Arathi Basin,

and more importantly the last achievement I needed for Battlemaster.

So yes, I am now officially Battlemaster Gnomeaggedon, Justicar of Gnomeregan. Well I would be if you could chain titles… Guess I will stick with Gnomeaggedon of Gnomeregan.

Of course, with what comes next, you will probably re-title me Gnomeaggedon, Master Whinger of Gnomeregan (more…)

  • nor about the titles you show
  • nor for that matter if you have a 3200 arena rating.
  • I only care that you play to win, and do that well.

So we have a new guildy, a pvp loving guildy. I’ve been in WSG with him all weekend… school holidays.

A demotivational player

Yeah, he’s a young guy. His parents are younger than me.

I don’t care about that either. He plays his rogue well. Peeling is his favorite word. He’s a team player, setting up opportunities for the win. I like that, it’s the way I, and my mates play. Personal glory 2nd, win for the team 1st.

He has one annoying habit, one I haven’t had much personal experience with in a while and when I did it was related to PvE and Gearscore.

No good reason to have these screen shots

He idolizes gear, titles and arena ratings.

When we enter a BG, he is immediately inspecting the team.

Wow, she’s got a 2800 arena rating from last season.

That guy is a Battlemaster!

That warrior is sooo geared.

Look at that noob in greens/heirlooms/last season’s/PvE gear.

To me all of that is irrelevant. Sure it indicates that a player has won some battles, but ratings can be forged, titles can indicate a selfish player, gear indicates nothing more than a grind (more…)
