You hate WoW Fishing?

I hate WoW Fishing!

You love WoW Fish Feasts!

I love WoW Fish Feasts!

So, JUST FISH FFS!

There… I said it.

Oh, here’s a surprise, I have more to say…

I remember back when I was looking up the Seafood Magnifique Feast recipe, I thought to myself

Not much different from a Fish feast… I made tons of those. Not really for my use of course, rather for anyone in BGs or Raid groups I was in.

I fished, therefore I fed.

So… where do I need to buy the recipe from...

Holy Taurenpats Gnomeman!

But I thought to myself… that wont take all that long, I mean, I’m a part of a guild now right…

At the time we had caught 2,000 fish towards the 10,000

Meh, only 8,000 fish I thought… how long can that take, especially as we are currently raiding on the trailer trash of raid feasts.

Just the other day I looked…

We were 3,400 fish shy of the achievement…

/sigh

I made that 3,200 fish shy of the achievement.

Then I made a post in our guild forums… now I am making a post here.

And no, before you start wondering, this isn’t a bitch against my guild.. they are a lovely bunch of people who would rather play the game than fish… they would rather drag their fingernails across a black board… some of them would prefer to pursue Archeology… mmmm whatever…

No really, this isn’t about the guild, it is more about those long drawn out achievements that people just don’t bother with.

I promised you yesterday I wouldn’t bore you with tales from long ago when I hunted down my Loremaster achievement, and I promise I wont do it again today. What I will do, is tell you the secret of my success.

Shhhhh

Come closer…

closer yet…

nearly, just a little bit more…

DO A LITTLE BIT AT A TIME AND IT WONT SEEM SO BIG!

Whoops, sorry about the volume control…

Anyway, this is more or less what I said in my guild forum. (No for the last time, this is not a bitch against my guild.. I can’t bitch about them, they even accept Locks with class-identity crises, not to mention Gnomes that well are completely bloody awesome).

Seafood Magnifique Feast in 7 days?

I was doing a patch of fishing today and we only need another 3200 fish from pools.

I know this sounds a lot, especially to the fishing phobic, but it really isn’t that much.

1 person catching 10 per day would take 320 days

10 people catching 10 per day would take 32 days – a month

10 people catching 20 per day would take 16 days – a fortnight

20 people catching 20 per day would take 8 days – a week.

Any combination of the 20×20 would get us there and there is a good chance that if someone has caught 20, they would catch a few more.

I know people hate fishing, but think of it like this…

Everyone in the guild wants the better buff food, but…

Only level 525 fishermen are going to be able to catch the fish actually required for the feasts once we have the recipe.

So at this point it is incumbent on those that will catch the fish, to complete the achievement, to catch the fish to make the feasts, to feed not themselves, but everyone else.

I know we can’t wait for our Herber/Alchemist to finish the flask achievement, but this is something that is limited to the Herbers/Alchemists of the guild.

Fishing is for noobs

But not with fishing, anyone can do it… anyone.

All you need is level 1 fishing, a fishing pole costing silver and a fishing pool.

Queuing for a random… that 30 minute queue will catch you at least 20 fish!

Maybe have a guild fishing event.

1 hour of fishing, person with the most pool-caught stuff gets a date with the Guildmaster…

So yeah.. if your guild isn’t getting that feast fast enough, then maybe encourage a bit of nude fishing…. err noob fishing.

Maybe make it a requirement for raiding… hand over 40 fish or no raid invite.

Hand over 1,000 fish and get a free autographed Gnomeaggedon T-Shirt (No these don’t exist… that would just be vain… so someone please make one and send it to me ok?)

Gnomer and Out!

PS: FUSH = Fish, well if you are from New Zealand anyway, which contrary to Jong’s insistence, I am not, but I just felt like writing fush… ok?

PPS: I think every existing guild member would support a complete stranger who joined the guild, organized a fishing competition, won the event and took the guild master on a date… mind you we would want some embarrassing photos in return

Tol’Barad is (has) a PvP zone.

I like PvP.

I like PvP so much that after getting to 85, all I have done on Gnomeaggedon is PvP.

I did try leveling via Battlegrounds with Squidly, but what I found was soul destroying. One SotA involved one player boarding a Demo (me), 2 players fighting the Horde (ineffectively) and 12 players… don’t know what they were doing, but they weren’t near the action. After 4 similar BGs I gave up and quested with Squidly.

As I mentioned earlier, I PvP’d with Gnomeaggedon once I hit level 85… for 2 weeks straight. Heaps of the 15 man’s led by Staylaughing/Sen’jin from QueueQ.

We averaged about 50 honor each battle, but they were fun and it was an honor being a part of the crew helping Qesta/Frostwolf achieve Battlemaster.

There were also a few Alterac Valleys thrown in, at about 100 honor per battle they are still about the best honor, although the Horde did force many a turtle.

Randoms were reasonable honor, 45 for a loss, 100 for a win, 200 for the 1st win of the day.

Call to Arms weekends were a write-off – no bonus honor for the Alliance, just for the Horde – not going to happen!

I have run a great mix of BGs growing to love the new ones.

I have singlehandedly gained the Horde Slayer achievement for my (old) guild.

I have collected a full set of the honor PvP gear, via, believe it or not… PvP.

Which is where Tol’Barad gets my blood boiling, gets me cursing my non-PvPing mates and sending frustrated twitters to Blizzard.

Prior to New Years Eve, I ran a few TB’s that while losses, were still fulfilling. There was lots of fighting, you know player vs. player, Alliance wasn’t quite grasping the idea that two nodes wasn’t enough and were madly racing from node to node.

Still, I thought it had potential.

WTF is Tol’Barad?

Just in case you aren’t aware of what exactly Tol’Barad is, here’s an overview.

Tol’Barad PvP zone is associated with, but separate to Tol’Barad the PvE zone.

Approximately every 2 hours (from the end of the previous battle), the zone come up for grabs. Winning the zone opens another set of PvE daily quests, and currently a bucketload of honor.

Actually, it’s a shitload of honor, but I’ll get to that.

The objective is simple… The attacker must cap (via force of bodies, similar to EotS), all 3 bases. As soon as the 3rd base completes capping (and 3 bases are held), the battle is won for the attacker.

The defender has a simpler task, prevent the capping of all 3 bases while there is time on the clock. Done properly, this may lead to a longish battle with lots of PvP (although if you don’t let them cap a base, extra time isn’t added).

In reality, as long as the defenders can hold one base through the timer, they will maintain control of TB.

Of course this is a part of the problem. The first few TBs I ran, we lost because the Horde just held on long enough, each time, every time.

Which leads to the current solution:

Trading Tol’Barad

Every two hours the defenders… don’t defend, they give it away.

Here, take the PvP zone… it’s not like we want to fight over it!

Two hours later, it’s turned over once again.

Two hours is plenty of time to complete all your dailies and there is an added bonus if you are lucky enough to be one of the FEW attackers in the game.

FEW?

Yeah, well Blizzards new PvP zone balancing system, which matches the quantity of combatants on each side, means that if only 5 defenders show up (they are giving it away, so why join up right?), then only 5 attackers can participate.

Have I mentioned that I like to PvP… I’m in a queue that will never be fulfilled, because there are people there that don’t want to PvP.

So we have a PvP zone that no one can get into, in which people rollover rather than fight, that awards a shitload of honor for practically nothing!

How much honor?

Assuming you don’t have the Win Tol’Barad quest (worth 89 honor), you receive about 100 honor for a loss (about the same as a win in a random BG), but for a win you get 1,800 honor.

1,800 honor!

1,800 HONOR!

The equivalent of:
9 (first) random BG wins
18 random BG wins
9 Alterac Valley wins
18 wins in another selected BG
18 random BG losses

Comparing AV wins to a TB win…

1 x 10 minute TB win = 9 x 30 minute AV wins (wins which aren’t gaurranteed). 10 minutes, vs 4.5 hours… by which point you could have signed up for a TB loss (100 honor) and another win (1,800 honor).

So 4.5 hours will get you:
Alterac Valley = 1,800 honor (wins assumed)
Tol’Barad = 3,700 honor.

Combatant balancing to the rescue.

Luckily the game is balanced, so if only 5 defenders appear, then only 5 attackers can join and only 5 people get the 1,800 honor… right? RIGHT?

WRONG!

Remember that screenshot from Cataclysm launch post of mine, of the flight trainer drowning in customers?

That’s what the bridge into Tol’Barad looks like when we are attacking (and I’m sure it’s the same for the Horde).

You see if you time it so that you are on the bridge as the last base caps, you too will receive the honor, for doing nothing but run back and forth on a bridge!

Why this really pisses me off

I worked hard for 2 weeks, in the battlegrounds, doing what you do in BGs… fighting to win, defending against people that want to win… FIGHTING!

Some of the pieces of PvP gear cost 2,200 honor, just over one Tol’Barad, that you don’t even need to participate in! Or, alternatively, 22 AVs or 44 of the other BGs.

I did it the hard way and I’m pissed off!

If Blizzard intends this, just send the whole frickin PvP set to every character in the game.

It pisses me off even more that there are some players that absolutely hate PvP, that are “joining in” TB to get the honor, to get the PvP gear.

One friend of mine would run screaming from a level 1 Gnome that tried to duel him. He hates PvP with a passion. Yet, every 4 hours he is in the queue, taking the place of someone THAT WANTS TO PVP!

Pissed off!

If the Tol’Barad “honor” bought lesser versions of PvP gear, similar to Wintergrasp Marks, of a quality similar to crafted PvP gear, I wouldn’t be so pissed, but it isn’t, and I am!

14 pieces of gear

2750 total honor

439 games played (at 50 per win) vs 13 Tol’Barads

Gnomer and Out!

PS: I know this has now been fixed and the honor is more in the vicinity of 400… still, is one Tol’Barad worth 8 normal Battleground wins? Don’t answer that.. it isn’t and gaining TB gives many more rewards… daily quests giving access to gear… a boss to kill… blah blah blah

PPS: Yes I have left my Guild, Armaggedon’s Coming!. What’s worse is I left in in the paws of a Warlock (she is still a bunny to me). I am now a member of Streakers, who I have mentioned before.

Nibuca asked a question in Twitter the other day.

What do you look for in a Guild Website?

I shot back one quick response:

Give non-WoW templates

That’s it.

I don’t care too much about the functionality, I do want to be able to read and leave comments, but the only thing that is important to me is being able to access the guild website when ever I want to.

It isn’t really relevant to me anymore anyway, for a couple of reasons:

I am now the guild master of a guild that doesn’t and won’t have a website (a point of differentiation when I spam trade chat?)

I have been told at work – look at WoW stuff, pack bags and go!

You know how I got caught?

I was making a post on my guild website asking for them to give us a work friendly theme option.

Unfortunately their awesome WoW theme was much more important than by ability to visit the site, to use the site.

They wouldn’t change the theme (or allow the selection of the default theme… too easy), so I won’t be using the guild page.

Why does it matter anyway?

Well I don’t know about you, but if I have time to get on the PC at home, I’m going to use that to play.

Updating my UI, reading blogs or joining in Guild website activities tend to fall into non WoW time.

When do we have the biggest blocks of non-WoW time. When do we plan our raiding week?

If you are a Guild Master/Guild Website Admin, you want people to use and appreciate your website. I have been a guild leader in a guild of 300-500 members where only 30 odd people ever visited the website… it hurts!

Anyway, too late for me.

Make sure it isn’t too late for your guildmates!

Gnomer and Out!

I’ve never created a guild before.

I have been a member of many.

Officer in at least one and that was pretty big 300-400 members)

One of my alts was even promoted to Guild Master of one (ok, it is a bank guild, but hey I’ve held the position before right…)

But I have never started one from scratch, not even one like Armaggedon’s Coming which has no purpose beyond appearing in screenshots.

So how was the process?

The Blizzard “paperwork” part was pretty painless. It would have been more painless if I didn’t adopt the “male DIY read the instructions as a last resort” method of guild creation.

Sure I checked where the Guild Masters were located… ie: somewhere in Stormwind (and the other major cities)… In the Visitors Centers… Like I had ever been there before in 4.5 years!

But read the guild charter, or even the icon to work out how people sign it…?

Pffff Hahaha… That’s for lesser mortals!

I knew the basics. You get the charter, then run toa starting area and spam your

Signature please

request at the hundreds of newbies in the zone.

I would never stoop slow low as to do blind charter signings… I don’t like blind dates, surprise birthday parties, blind group invites or blind charter signings.

So I went to the trouble of crafting a polite request for signatures, then I slammed it in /say

Then I spammed it in /yell

Then I added 1 gold to the offer and repeated the process.

It soon occurred to me that the one or two people in the zone (where is all the fresh blood) must be complete newbies that couldn’t even move their characters or work out how to chat, because no one responded.

Last Resort

I then resorted to /whisper.

I actually got someone to sign!

Sure I chased him down the road… But he gave in eventually… Almost willingly!

This is where my male DIY failed me and I had to read the instructions.

On my way back after my initial success I managed to score another signature.

This guy even wanted to know the name of the guild and it’s purpose… Don’t know if you are reading this, but if you are… Hi and thanks!

Then there was the guy that turned up and just stood in front of me… Finally he asked:

10 gold?

Being the kind of Gnome I am, I immediately opened my trade window, deposited 15 gold and went and got a beer, watched some TV, watered the lemon tree and when a group invite appeared from my mate, accepted the summon and disappeared…

Whoops… Sorry, I was just making you earn your 10g… Which I forgot to pay you…

Once the party disbanded I took the portal again. Ran around Stormwind for a while, but only got one signature out of the dozen or so unguilded toons (no I won’t hassle guilded folk).

Mr. Tree offered me the soul of his baby lock before he logged for the night (it was getting late by this point), but I decided I needed to troll new and more fertile grounds.

My hearth and Astral Recall were both still on cooldown, so I was forced to take public transport of the Gnomish variety, something I try to avoid.

Ironforge was a little better and soon (ha!) I was only 3 signatures short.

The rest of my whispers fell on deaf ears, so I mounted up and headed to the Gnome/Dwarf starting zone.

I nearly made it before I got a whisper from Ironforge. It was a long way back for one signature, but one signature on the charter was worth two in the starting zone.

This is where total strangers made my day. I was invited to a party with not one, but two total strangers… Both of whom not only signed up, but offered me best wishes!

Yes I am prepared to beg!

Mmmm one short, only one thing to do, totally abase myself and beg Mr. Offspec…

I love you Mr. Offspec. I can’t believe I have ever said a bad word about you (Ohhh that’s right, it’s Gnomer that’s got issues… Not Squidly).

He not only signed up, but patiently waited for me to Port to SW to create the guild, hearth back to Dalaran, hand over guild leadership, waited while Squidly logged off, Gnomeaggedon logged on, invited Gnomeaggedon to the Guild and promoted Gnomeaggedon to GM.

We Haz Tabbard kk

So job done… Oh hang on, no self respecting two-bit vanity guild is complete without a tabbard…

Now it was getting late, around 3.30am, but Gnomeaggedon would rest until he was properly attired.

It took a long time before I found that garden gnome. Once found, there were no difficulties with the color scheme. Gnomeaggedon is “green” and he lays waste with fire!

Green Gnome on a Red field… Perfect!

Momentary Regret

There is a little bit of me that feels guilty about dropping my guild, even though they didn’t know who I was. Even though I haven’t run with them since April.

I know that this is going to make it impossible to join another guild… but the reality is I have been unguilded most of my 80 levels, whether I wore a tabbard or not.

Wanna join my exclusive club?

So now I have my own guild I can start strutting my stuff in trade chat!

We are a non-friendly, non-family,uninhabited, non-raiding, non-progression guild on the Aman’Thul Server playing at times that suit no one. We don’t have a guild bank…

But we do have a tabbard!

Seriously, who wouldn’t want to be a member of this exclusive guild, with all it’s benefits, that only asks for one thing in return from it’s members. I mean, come on, what’s a 20,000 gold annual membership fee between friends?

What, you thought I was a silly Goblin. I’m far too lazy for that. I’m a smart Gnome!

Don’t worry the 20,000 fee gets redistributed amongst the share holders… All two of me!

Guild Master Gnomeaggedon and Out, Raid Leader Squidly and Stout!

PS: I am not specifically promoting Swagdogs gear.. it just seemed like a great way to capture some images, but as I grabbed them from their site, well if you click on them, you will go to Swagdogs.. Of course if they want to give me something out of the generosity of their hearts… well they can click on the link too

I have seen lots of blog posts about guild leadership, if you are looking for them start with Matt and keep going.

I have seen lots of posts about recruiting for your guild, or finding the right guild for you.

I have seen lots of posts about being a good class player, nearly every class blog has at least one of those.

I have seen lots of posts about being a good raid leader or raid member.

What I haven’t seen, at least many of, is a post about being a good guild member.

Good Guildy! How to be one

Picking the right guild.

The 1st step in being a good guild member is finding the right guild. In the right guild, with objectives that are aligned with yours, you will be off to a huge headstart at being a good guildy.

The old biblical saying of:

Do unto others as you would have them do into you

is much easier when you are all doing unto each other things that you want done unto you.

Account Safety

Authenticator

These days an authenticator is a prerequisite for playing in general, but it is essential if you are in a guild.

You have a couple of options for authenticators these days, and no excuses not to get one.

The only thing worse than having your account hacked and your toons stripped, is for the guild to be stripped as well!

Account sharing

While it’s within the ToS to share your account with a family member, nothing will put you on the outer with your guild quicker than your “little brother” or discontent partner screwing with the guild in your name.

Your toon name is your badge of honor. When someone smack talks guildies in your name, it is your name that is dishonored. When someone wipes the raid in your name, you are the annoying noob.

Don’t think that logging on the next day and apologizing will clear the air… After all, who is ever going to trust that it is you in the 1st place.

Guild Wealth

Guild bank

The guild bank is not your personal warehouse. It is a collection of mats and gear that is stockpiled through the generosity of your guild mates for the purpose of progressing the guild as a whole.

If you “need” something in the guild bank remember that some other kind soul sacrificed that item and their own profits to help the guild.

Ask before taking, and preferably offer a fair exchange for that item.

Remember that the guild bank doesn’t fill itself. So before you hock that Frostweave, BoE etc, that the better place for those goods might Be in the Guild bank. Sharing those mats or other items with a desperate toon will undoubtedly be worth more than the handful of coins in your own bank.

Made a killing on the AH?

Give some to the Guild Bank!

I remember checking our my guild bank one night after a raid. The vault was nearly empty and it occurred to me that our guild leader dropped 3 repair bots and other people shared heaps of pots around the raid. I couldn’t farm these things, but I could repay the guild for their efforts.

1,000 gold later (an insignificant amount for me back in TBC, in fact I felt a little guilty for depositing so little) and I had won the gratitude of numerous guild members. The GM was amazed, because hardly anyone contributed to the guild bank.

Loot

So that’s an upgrade for you? What, 1-20 DPS?

How about your guildy?

If it will do more for them, then it will mean more for them and ultimately the guilds progression.

Saying:

/pass: I pass, you go for it, you need it more!

are some of the sweetest words you will ever read during a loot roll.

Crafting

You can craft?

Ask not what your guild can do for you, rather what you can do for your guild.

If you made it, and are about to vendor or DE it, check in guild 1st.

If someone needs to utilize your crafting prowess, offer it free, you go to them, supply the mats if you can afford it.

If you farm, offer a bit around. Pixels of gold have less RL value than hearts of gold.

Your efforts will not go unnoticed!

BoEs

1) Your 10, 20, 300 gold BoE may have a higher value to someone in the guild that can use it, and I’m not talking monetary value.

2) If someone offers you a BoE, be aware they could have just AH’d it, so make sure you show your appreciation.

Mats
Got ‘em, Give ‘em!

One of the greatest gifts I got in TBC was mats towards my Spell* sets. I repaid in awesome DPS!

Presence

There are a few forms of presence that are important. After all, if you are not intending to provide some level of presence, why did you join the guild, you might as well have stayed solo.

Guild chat

Always say Hi & Bye… Simple nah?

Celebrate in guildy’s achievements, whether achievement achievements, dings, loot gains, kills, even real life achievements. Even when you are having one of those meh days, it’s easy to throw out a grats to two, and it is so nice being on the other end of those… remember?

Guild forum

The guild forums are there for a reason, well many reasons.

One of those reasons is to have a persistent source of information that is a tad bigger that the guild motd.

The other is to facilitate offline communication. It’s much easier to hit a forum during the day, than to fire up WoW.

Make sure you at least read them

Preferably acknowldge people’s thoughts and ideas.

Sign up for, or create your own events.

Guild forums are not official forums don’t be an arsehat or a troll, and definitely don’t be an arsehat-troll. Respect your online family!

Mental presence

When you are online and participating in a guild event, then be there physically and mentally. Join into the activities and the discussion. The event will only ever be as “alive” as you make it.

Availability

Not so much the % of your time you are online, but rather your availabilty when you are there.

Instances/support
I am taking more about instances and support. Ever spammed /LFG and guild chat trying to get a group going only to discover that your guildies that could run with you (and probably start up a group of their own and go to that instance you are begging to go to) don’t acknowledge you?

Don’t be that person. In particular, consider the lower level, or new to 80 toons. Leveling can be lonely and frustrating work. Gearing up at 80 can be a PITA if no one wants to run the instances holding the gear.

The more help you can provide to these people, the quicker you will have additional forces to work with (and guess who will be on their friends list!)

Maybe this is an opportunity for you to play your Alt for a change.

Tutoring
While helping guidies, remember to HELP guildies. If they are doing something that makes them a classtard, then the best person to help them is YOU!

The quicker they learn, the quicker they will become a fully functioning member of the guild, that you will be happy to raid with, and that will give your guild a good name with outsiders.

Guild Relations

Dissent

Leaders are only human, and humans make bad calls and can’t necessarily see the whole picture.

But just because they are (may be) wrong, doesn’t mean you can stir up a revolution.

Really, if you have a significant difference of opinion, there are two ways to approach the situation, and two outcomes even if you aren’t satisfied with the final decision.

Correct method:

Broach it with your leader(s) privately via whisper or leader channel if your concerns must be acknowledged immediately, or

Send them a private forum message to give them a chance to think through and discuss the concept with other leaders in a “safe” environment.

Wrong method:

Bring up your issues in guild, raid or god forbid general chat.

Make a public post on your forums.

Why so?
As much as your intentions may be honorable in putting something in the public arena, doing so opens up a few issues.

It sows a seed of discontent with other guild members, who will start to second guess the end result, and doubt the leadership if there is any delay in a response.

In opening it up tithe general populace, you then open it to a cascade of divergent views, many of which won’t actually be directly on topic and this will obscure the real question and make it difficult for a succinct response.

It puts the leaders on the back foot, and no one likes to be broadsided.

I know in my guild leadership days, it could take hours, even days for all the relevant leaders to find out about the issue and work out a solution. GL’s have lives too, and sometimes WoW comes 2nd, or 3rd or…

When someone made a drama post, it was very difficult to mend fences and keep the discussion on the right path.

Give them a chance to get back to you, and the rest of the guild if necessary, with an appropriate response.

Don’t like the decision?

If you can live with it, buckle down and get on with the job. You were heard, but you can’t always get what you want.

If you can’t live with it, offer up a departure notice and leave the guild. Don’t ever bad mouth the guild publicly or privately. Doing so will convince people something is rotten, when in fact you alone aren’t happy.

New ideas

You’ve got them, so share them. As much as GL’s get inundated by whispers, constantly, they always appreciate new ideas and feedback.

When you have them, you need to share them, otherwise there is the danger that you will become disillusioned with the game.

Let the GLs know you are there and thinking about ways to improve the guild. Just do it privately at 1st so they get a chance to give you a considered response.

Use the calander

No one ever seems to want to run the same instances as you?

Probably not true, but maybe you need to give some advanced warning.

Don’t leave the events calender empty, fill it and watch the sign ups roll in (and the subsequent invites).

Support activities

Keeping the guild motivated can be hard at times, especially during school breaks etc.

When the GL’s post a silly event it’s not only for their own pleasure. There’s a good chance they are as excited about it as you.

But there are good intentions behind it, and there’s a good chance that the idea has come from another guildy.

Two things to remember:

Doing the silly event will be good for the guild. 1 person turning up = bad, 2 people = better. The more the merrier.

You will most likely have a hoot. If you read blogs, or listen to podcasts about silly events, they always end up being a blast… If people show up.

/gquit

There comes a time in most peoples WoW lives where the guild no longer fits your own needs.

This is OK, but it’s now time to /gquit

Talk before /gchat

Logging on at 3am and stealth /gquit is not usually the best way to do it.

Every /gquit no matter what the reasons leaves people wondering about the health of the guild. Unexplained ones just add to the drama.

Talk to at least one GL about your intentions privately. Equip them to field questions about your departure, or identify future issues (maybe even correct) in the guild.

Talk about you reasons in /gchat. Let people understand your positive reasons for leaving, and give them the chance to say farewell.

Post a farewell message in your guild forums for all those that weren’t online at the time.

No gossip

You left the guild because it was no longer the best for for you.

Don’t bad mouth it, or gossip about it to guild strangers, and especially to former guildies.

In Real Life

If you have never conducted a job interview, you may not realize that a big turnoff is applicants that bag out their previous employers.

Same thing goes with guilds.

This is the stuff that epic drama lama forums are made of. In the end no one comes out looking good, least of all the person that initiated the drama.

I think that’s long enough blurb by me.

What would you add?

Gnomer and Out!

My mates joined a guild to raid. When they did so, they clearly stated in their application that they couldn’t raid Friday nights, as this night was already taken to play with other mates (like me). However, they would offer up any spare places in our 10 man raids to their guildies that were at a loose end.

Turns out two of my mates are 2/3 of the best dps in the guild and knowing my mates, the rest of them would be in the top of their fields.

This is sort of beside the point though.

The problem they are facing has been accentuated over the last 2 weeks with me doing 25 man Naxx.

You see, their guild doesn’t have enough to field a 25 man group, and they refuse to pug the extra numbers.

They can field about 16 on any given night, so too many for a 10 man, yet too few for a 25.

They won’t pug the extra 9 for one reason.

Competition for loot.

Now my mates and I have a fairly long history of pugging to fill our raids. During TBC the best we could ever field was 8, but for most of the time it was 6-7, when it was 6 you could bet it was a different person missing on any given week. The pughera themselves normally changed every week. Occasionally we would get one to stay for 2-3 weeks, but we were casual, offering casual pug places.

Thing was, as frustrating as it could be breaking in new raid members (often 1st time raiders) and watching dreamed of loot going to someone we would never see again…

We got to see Kara!

Now my mate’s guild don’t want to loose the loot to puggers, but does that mean they don’t want to see 25 man Naxx, or any of the 25 man loot?

I’m not sure what’s worse. In fact I would assume that they would be more likely to at the very least pick up regular puggers, if not new guild members.

Surely they could introduce a roll modifier. ie: guildies roll 20-100 and puggers roll 1-100.

This would:

Increase the chances of keeping loot in-house, and

Increase the likelihood that the puggers join the guild to increase their chance at loot.

Anyway, what do you think…

Better to raid with a 2/5 chance the loot goes outside the guild?, or

Better to forget about the content?

Gnomer and Out!

Hey folks,

Well tonight was a funny night, jumped on to cruise with my 6 friends through whatever comes (Kara or ZA), but we had lost one (new Dad) to other commitments, so without realising it, each of us headed off on different “quests”.

I was bumming about, when I got a pst from my old Guild leader (Malleo). Now if you were to check out my guild history, you would probably shy away from inviting me to your guild – especially my recent guild history. I think I have been in 3 or 4 different guilds in the last few weeks. But I guess I should put that in perspective…

I used to be in a pretty big guild on Khaz’goroth, actually I was one of the guild leaders, in fact so were my friends (both on that server and guild leaders). But it did one of those internal combustion things (kind of like Mage with 2 charges of combustion letting loose on a newly tagged mob – disaster). So we, the leaders, moved servers with the intention of not being a part of the a guild, and more specifically guild leadership. Ok, enough digression..

So one day I join this pug SH run.. these folks are fun and great players… so we are all letting our hair down (If I remember right there were 2 puggers that run, myself and a warlock). The run was going so well, that Malleo asked us both to join up.

Anyway, as stated earlier, I had an aversion to joining a guild, mainly because I am committed to to mates and our Friday night runs… which generally are my only runs. Malleo was cool with my extreme-casual ways.. and I have had a great time in his very welcoming guild, with the very welcoming guild mates (I always seemed to score an invite to some big event.. things I never expected).

Anyway, I think Malleo has recently gotten tired of the pressures of the guild leadership bizzo, so moved on from his guild (handing it over nicely etc). He has moved a couple few times lately, and each time I log on, I get the “Hey Gnomi.. come and join xyz, they are great ppl”

And that’s what happened tonight.. I get this pst from Malleo asking if

a) I want to drop by Gruuls place for a feast, and

b) whether I want to join a new guild.

So tonight, totally out of the blue, I have downed Gruul, and joined Make Love Not Warcraft.

Happy times.

Now I know that for most people, the idea of floating about is considered, disloyal, but I must say that I genuinely feel a great sense of “family” within the guilds I have played with lately, but particular with my (ex)guild leader.. and must send a big thank you out there to Malleo for keeping me in the bigger family that exists on the server…

Anyway,

Must go and see if there is still something living in on Aman’thul that needs a bit of a beating…

Hope you all have a great Saturday.

Ohh.. how did I go on the dps? Mmm OK.. not as good as I have done in the past…

WWS tells me 6th overall (about 100k off top).. a few sill deaths on trash. 1st on HKM (though in-game I thought I was 2nd by about 5k), Gruul, way down at 7th, about 40k off top.. but I was being cautious, cause I have had some silly deaths in there on the last few occasions.

Gnomer and Out
