Killing ‘em Slowly was the blog and the post I read was from the dirty filthy Lock of the duo. It was a perfect example of the spreading of STDs and the (im)moral victories that can be obtained through them. We can’t find that post, maybe my memory is failing, but I still clearly remember a post where a boss was killed just as the last raid member went down, one last tick of a dot from a now deceased Lock and the victory was theirs.

Of course a pure, pious, pulpit wielding Gnome like myself would never live amongst those with STDs, let alone gain one and spread it. Spread it not only without conscience, bit with glee.

No, no, never!

Never would we hear of the pure engaging in underworld activities. Never would they be caught in the arms of an illicit lover.

However, I would engage in Leprechaun like terrorist activities involving the laying of time delayed bombs that rip the face off my opponents and their celebrating friends.

Really, what did you expect from a Gnome… /serious?

Yeah it’s been nerfed, limited to 3 targets, but still the joy of the delayed kill is all mine now.

It used to be an issue in PvE, and to be honest it probably still is, if only I would get off my skinny (yet surprisingly cute) Gnomish arse and spec for PvE and run an instance or two.

I’d throw up a few living bombs, quietly Pew Pew away (yeah OK, Flame Strike, Blizzard, Pyroblast, I’d go nuts).  The tank would keep everything under control, maybe use a taunt to keep the mobs in good shape, then…

Ohh shit, where did I put that Ice Block again?

PvP is da BOMB!

In PvP, it’s a bit different (and how I miss the days where you could just sit on the outside and Living Bomb the entire enemy team and just rotate around them).

No one is controlling the “mobs”, the healers always have higher threat than those that can actually soak the damage, and it is so frenzied that one extra debuff dot really isn’t anything to worry about… or is it.

I’ve been scoring a ton of killing blows lately.  Previously I would do a heap of damage, but when the dust had settled, I would be face down in the dirt and the damn Horde would still be healthy, still engaged.

But Living Bomb can change all that.

I may be a ghost at the spirit healer, but I still get to watch my damage scroll down the screen.

I may get taken down by 3+ Horde on the wrong side of the map (Hey, I figure I can keep 3+ Horde very busy for a good few minutes… which is about the time required for our flag carrier to pick up the flag, return it and head back for more).

The thing is that my premature death (well, they might not consider it premature) will be avenged.

While I know I should be popping immediately to get back to the fight, there are times where I just have to lie in my corpse and watch the celebrations.

What is it with these people, all jumping about celebrating the death of one annoying Gnome, High Fives everywhere?  I know when I beat a bunch of Horde, I wander off a good 10-20 yards, just in case my team mates are infected with some disease that will haunt me for the rest of my short life.

So beware the green haired Gnome (I’ve still got my hair, even if I now have a ferret face without my beard), that likes to rub against your in night clubs and battlegrounds.

Make sure you are using protection, because this loving Gnome wants to share his STDs, his living bombs.  He wants to cackle from the grave.

Endario suggested I get my rant warmed up. It’s going to be a hell of a week in the Battlegrounds, whether you know them back to front, or only discover the BG interface tomorrow.

So when I started thinking about this (and realized that I don’t have the achievement myself – two rants coming up) it occurred to me that having Orphans in the BGs could be a little fun, if we are proactive about it.

What is your 1st reaction when someone gets their Orphan on?

I bet it isn’t…

Ohh yay, noob PvE’rs hunting achievements in my BGs!

It’s more likely to be...

F’n noobs in their F’n PvE gears destroying my F’n BG fun.

Now let’s look at it from the other side of the fence. No I’m not talking about the BG experience fence, we already know the BG noobs are trembling in their virtual boots. Let’s look at it…

Across the Faction Fence.

When you see an enemy charging down a node with their Orphan out, what’s your 1st thought?

How about:

F’n noob, you will die before you know what hit you!

Bait & Switch

So if we all know that “the only people in the BGs with their Orphans out” are noobs… Let’s invite attacks from the enemy by appearing to be noobs!

This will achieve several worthwhile goals at once:

1. it will make the noobs a little more comfortable, a little less exposed.
2. it will confuse the enemy, as they won’t know who the easy targets are any more.
3. it might get you an achievement you didn’t know you didn’t have.

One more body from a distance, means one less attacker coming your way.

I often get my Argent Squire out for arenas. To be honest I don’t like this “pet” (The stupid Squire needs to ask Gnomeaggedon of Gnomeregan which faction banner he should carry… back in your box squire), but when we burst out of the gates, it’s one more body the enemy team has to filter out.

From Lumber Mill, 3 players and their Orphans may be easily confused for 6 players. Who doesn’t want twice the numbers of the enemy?

Enough smoke & mirrors, let’s get friendly!

Do you have virtual boobs?

Do you play one of the neglected females, the Dwarves, the Orcs etc?

If you do, why don’t you flaunt your assests?

Grimtorn was saying the other day that on the 1st day of Nooblegarden her female dwarf toon was leading a procession around Dalaran.

Not just of desperate and admiring males trying to pin the ears on the bunny, but ultimately of other female toons.

If you have done any of the events in the past, you will know how frustrating it is to find that one last class/sex/race combination.

This is hard enough on day 1 and 2 of the event, but as the days go by and you have the achievements under your elegant dress, other people cry in frustration at the lack of suitable targets.

It get worse if you are low level with little access to Dalaran beyond a 10g port. Now you will be hunting your faction’s cities for the elusive female dwarf.

There should be hundreds of them in Ironforge right… right?

Ok, maybe not.

So if you’ve got a female character of the appropriate age (level 18+), especially if you have an elegant dress in your bank. Why not prowl the streets of your nearest capital or Dalaran?

Don’t just do it today, do it tomorrow and the next day. Do it every 2nd day until the event is over.

Craddle snatching = bad
Jailbait = ok.

I think it’s funny that us old toons can’t go chasing the younger toons. You can’t kiss the girls under level 18.

But did you know, as a minor, you can kiss the granddaddies?

My level 17 has been a naughty naught girl chasing down other girls.. Hope her parents don’t find out.

If you got it, give it!

There are a couple of other things you may have that will be helpful to the achievement stragglers of the world.

Bunny wands.

I noticed a few toons loitering around Ungoro crater the other day. I expect they were there to help the wannabe egg layers get their bunny on. I brought my own, so I didn’t need to find out.

If you are like me and have 8 wands in the bank, why not head down to Ungoro and bunnify a few folk.

You could ask for gold…
Or you could do it out of the goodness of your heart.

Instant public transportation.

Are you a Mage or a Warlock?

How about giving the newbies a ride?

I have been both giving port on request as well as opening public ports from the starting areas occasionally.

I have been charging if requested, but my public Dalaran portals are free for the taking (not that I haven’t been offered). I consider it a community service… why take the last gold from that low level toon when I can make their Nooblegarden that much easier (and less frustrating, therefore more fun).

If you’re a Lock you could offer summons to Ungoro, or the many deserts you need for desert rose.

If you you got it, share it.

This is a MMO, there are lots of people and lots of alts. The end objective of the game is to have and share the fun.

Last count there were 35 eggs hidden (or about to be hidden) around the WoW blogsphere.

So while you are waiting for that Nooblegarden egg to spawn, why not go find some in the blogsphere.

People are either raiding the hell out of ICC, or warming up alts for the Cataclysm.

The raiding isn’t happening for me. It occurs to me I haven’t even picked up this weeks weekly raid quest.

I’m not even chasing the Frost emblems in the daily random. There’s no question that they are a great way to augment your ICC emblem haul, but I’m not racking up the T10 gear, so my enthusiasm has waned.

As for leveling alts… It was raised the other day by one of my mates. My immediate “no” changed to a maybe reasonably quickly, but I’m stretched playing two characters… So 3 is pushing my luck and time.

Instead I am finding myself spending more time playing my alt…. errr my main… errr the one relegated to alt status, my original love, this blogs inspiration.

Yes, Gnomeaggedon has managed to push Squidly into a dark corner.

Sure Squidly gets let out for a run occasionally, particularly if my mates are looking for heals for a random etc… but otherwise Squidly is too far down the character selection screen.

What has brought on the change of mind?

A few things pushed me over the edge.

Cheap T9

At 1st it was just Squidly grinding out the emblems. Fundamentally instant queues encouraged me to stock up, fast.

Soon enough I realized that Gnomeaggedon could join in on the feast. The difference was the relatively (to Squidly) long queue times.

But with Gnomeaggedon, I got a breather from the PuGs, which even I admit can bring you down on occasions.

Relatively quick instance groups

Waiting 10, 15, 20 minutes for a group is such a pain and I was spoilt by Squidly. However, the reality is that I have stayed in LFG all night (yes 6 hours) without getting a group pre-LFD, so as long as I could find a way (apart from laps of Lagaran) I would be happy.

Raid tastings

Since spliting with my group of mates, Gnomeaggedon hasn’t raided… That’s since Naxx… 3 raid instances ago.

Squidly ran a few, people are always:

However I have found spamming LFG, Trade and General chat:

Low gearscore, out of practice, low dps Mage LFG raid, pst

didn’t usually get me many spots… Maybe if I didn’t mention I was a Mage I might have more luck.

The weekly raid however has people filling spots with anyone, anything.

LF1M, Non-Combat Pet acceptable, owner must have GS > 0 (That excludes you Balth)

PvP goes Boom!

Then there was War… Gnomo a Belfo.

I lost my enthusiasm for BGs a while back. Squidly was the last nail in the coffin. I know I have complained in the past about dps forgetting the poor healer, but in hindsight Squidly has a life expectancy measured in minutes, whereas Gnomeaggedon’s is measured in seconds.

It frustrates me no end that Blizzard has 50% more HKs on Squidlys permanent record than on Gnomeaggedon, still maybe that’s true. I know Squidly just soaks up the Honor and kills when he’s in a BG, but Gnomeaggedon has to work at it… Maybe because Squidly is healing packs and Gnomeaggedon is /failsoloing packs.

Loremaster

The worst part of the 20 minute LFD wait was not being able to do anything. I’m still frustrated that I can’t queue for a combination of raid, BG & instance.

WSG is usually complete before an instance pops. I can normally do 3-4 before a raid invite pops.

So, desperate to do something, my attention turned to the Old World. Needing a reason to be there (no, 10 copper piece rewards are not reward in themselves), I pulled the achievement card.

Wondering how much time I have spent waiting for raids, instances and BGs… Eastern Kingdoms done and 150 quests of Kalimdor.

Love

Two types of love…

Love is in the air.

I’m not really fussed on getting the holiday acheivements with Squidly. If I have time and excess energy, sure.

Gnomeaggedon however seems to have 1/4 of each of the holidays done. Not bad considering I probably would have only dedicated 1-2 hours to each one and dedicated is an exaggeration.

Gnome love

• Well, love of my Gnome, Gnomeaggedon.
• When I put my PvP hat on and strut around the spirit healer, I feel alive.
• When I’m bottom of recount, yet still pulling threat on the bosses, I feel at home.
• When I get to the character selection screen and look no further than the 1st character, I feel releived.

How To:  Sorting your characters on the Character Selection screen

Question: What would you do to get your characters in the right order on your character selection screen?

It’s frustrating that while you can sort on an iPhone app, you can’t sort them in game.

What a mate of mine did…

A combination of:
Deletion, Renaming and character transfer + renaming.

They are (for) now in the perfect order… Some people are too [anal] retentive.

Gnome taking 1st place again

So with the approach of Cataclysm I’m not racing to complete Arathas

(note to Aman’Thul – if you want a pug Gnome and/or Squid on a regular basis, then drop me a line. I’d love to see more, but my mates guilds are so far ahead of me that they only get me in for roflstomping content when 15 or 16 bodies in the 25 man raid make no difference – note, I’m not joining your guild, but I will roll on your phat loots).

Instead I think I will fill my time with all the other bits of the game, still plenty for this old Gnome to see and do before the world comes to a cataclysmic end.

Ohhh have you noticed how many Mage bloggers recently rerolled and loved healing?

Have you noticed how many are coming back to their 1st love!

Getting less Patient with Age.

PS: yes OK, Squidly got most of my weekend time… Something about an “Elder” title.. Squidly the Elder feels much more appropriate right now that Squidly the Patient.

Let me tell you how frustrated I am with the split holiday activation.  I realise most of you have no idea what I am talking about, but on the Oceanic Servers we get lucky.  Our events start at midnight local server time, so we had the Lunar Festival (the Love festival etc) start 3/4 of a day before any other US realms…

BUT…

We dont’ get the whole thing!

Our instances are on the Battleground time clock – which means we don’t get them until (at least) 7 pm.  It’s such a pain having to waltz around quests and achievements you can’t do.

Yes, the events do finish the “day early” (well, on-time server time) as well.

What are Blizzard afraid of, that we Oceanic types might get a world 1st? 1st Valentine’s delivered?

Let’s consider that a bonus for limiting us to playing 6 nights a week due to weekly downtime?

Europe already has the full event, so we aren’t going to spoil anything…

Yeah, so love is in the air…

Ironically I have time this year to complete this achievement for the very reason that the only love that I have been breathing lately is the unconditional love of Odin.. well assuming he gets the icecream.. the ball.. the Spiderman action figure and 80% possession of my PC.

When I grabbed that screenshot I was feeling a little melancholy.. I mean really, unless you are a gaming couple, where can the love possibly be in a MMORPG (without the RPG of course… Although [ANAL} Pyroblast does kind of have a romantic ring to it).

Aint Gnome’a do it!

I promise myself I will not roll a Goblin when BurningWrathOfTheCataclysm comes out,.  Goblins are pretty low on my ladder… hell, I would much rather be Syrana’s little Imp (cause let’s face it, being Syrana’s minion would have benefits), I might even go so far as to be Saresa‘s Imp if she comes back to WoW Blogging (Yes, gone.  Yes she was a Warlock, but she was an Aussie Warlock).

So yeah, I was looking for love in all the wrong places, but if I wanted some companionship (wink, wink), there was this certain lady of Stormwind that professed her love for a Goblin… yet her room was busier than Flinders Street Station…

Tough Love… sure. Nice people… Hell Yeah!

Unlike Bear, I have actually been encountering some nice people over the last few days.

There is this little thing going on in SFK at the moment.  Lots of frustrated people TRYING TO USE BLIZZARD’S HALF ARSED LFD SYSTEM than still doesn’t include at the very least the holiday instances, let alone all instances (Come on Blizz!).

Grrrr… frustrated… naaah not at all.. takes me back to the good old days of spamming for a group then spending 40 minutes getting to the instance…

Anyway, a shout out to HereFishy, Brimbo, Almitywolf & Stumperz, all from Aman’Thul for being understanding when I went AFK mid fight.. mid cast, mid fight.  One minute I’m there winding up a Frostfire Blot (from memory  had just popped my IWIN button), the next I am gone.

When my 3 year old call out for his Daddy, Daddy comes running.

I got back to my corpse (would you heal someone standing in the bad?) and started to apologize profusely.. you see we had all gone down.  It was a wipe and a lost attempt for the night.

I felt like shite, they made me comfortable with my choice (Of course, there was no choice and I was comfortable with that).

So thanks for your understanding guys!

But wait, there’s more…

I decided to run normals rather than heroics for the rose drop.  In reality if probably would have been quicker to run through the heroic versions with overgeared 80′s, but I figured there was no harm in me helping out some lowbies while I wasted my night looking for flowers.

I had some nice groups.  I’m sure I put the tanks under a bit of pressure, but they came up with the goods most of the time (If one of them could handle my 7k on one of the bosses, I think they will do fine) and when they didn’t I either dispatched the mob with a flick of my wrist, or dutifully brought the mob back to the pack to die.

One other 80 appeared on one run, realized it was a normal and said:

Oh, it’s normal.. never mind, I’ll stick with you to the end.

This was my attitude too.  While it was no accident that I was there, I was up front and told them I was only there for the rose – which I would take my chances with like everyone else and I would be there till the last boss dropped.

Man did they drop…

Anyway, on one occasion the rose dropped, we rolled and I lost.  Khimestone won the rose then immediately opened a trade window with me.  We couldn’t trade the rose (and TBH I wouldn’t have accepted it anyway), but it was such a nice gesture.

It kind of makes me wonder what happens when people get their 1st T9 piece.. I get the feeling they go a little nusto, because these pre-80′s were great people to run with.

Ohh speaking of Great groups

This one has nothing to do with holidays, they were just a great group.

I have healed HoR a few times now without any issues (OK, maybe a few issues when I have tried to heal on Gnomeaggedon), but for some reason the other night it just wouldn’t come together.  The tank was good, the dps were good, the only person I can blame is myself, but I’m not going to beat myself up about it.

Instead, I would just like to thank Spitfire – Blackrock, Digesualdo – Proudmore, Dazell- Aman’Thul & Pumble – Aman’Thul for sticking with the group through 8 wipes, not one One-Wipe-Pansy amongst them!

I know I was a little negative yesterday about the Bonfire reset, but in reality that has worked out very nicely for me… it means that I have been able to clear up the Midsummer Festival in just over one day without relying on dailies…

I know I should be doing another blogday post… but that will have to wait, as I am at home looking after the young Gnome…

Anyway, when I started this midsummer jaunt, I was relying upon the great strategies of other bloggers… then at one point when I was struggling to find a bon fire, I hit WoWHead and discovered TomTom settings…  Most of them were all over the place, so I started compiling them, only to find one post with most of them…

Anyway, the good news is that Blizzard fixed all those problems you folk have been experiencing if you did the Midsummer Festival activities last year…

With the added bonus that the bon fires have been reset, and you can do them again!

From Spooncraft:

Hey congratulations folks who did the Midsummer stuff last year and have felt screwed this year. Blizzard has applied a little fix on the servers that reset the quests so players regain access to all those blossoms. You need something like 400 of them to purchase all the gear required for the hot pole dance meta.

We are in the process of applying an in-game fix that will restart all of the quests associated with the Midsummer Fire Festival event and allow players to complete them once again. If you are in the process of completing an achievement such as Extinguishing Kalimdor, this fix will reset your progress and you will need start over. This fix will require realms to be restarted.

So where’s the fail in that?

A little bit from WoWVault started to confirm my suspicions…

They basically resets everyone’s festival fire quests, which really isn’t a bad deal since it means free gold and blossoms for everyone! Anyone who doesn’t wish to redo them still retains the achievement credit, so it’s a win-win.

Then I found these bits

* Totemic Beacons are unable to be reclaimed if destroyed. Players who are wishing to complete “Inform the Elder” are welcome to request further assistance by submitting an in-game petition.

* If players previously completed “A Thief’s Reward” prior to their realm’s reset, it’s possible they may be able to complete it again.

* With this, if players stole any city fires prior to this morning’s hotfix, they may need to doubleback and re-complete them in order to pick up a “A Thief’s Reward.”

It’s really that last paragraph that made me /cry…

Win Some/Lose Some

You see, I pulled a late one last night.

I cleared out:

• Flame Warden of Eastern Kingdoms
• Extinguishing Eastern Kingdoms

This morning I jumped on and finished off:

• Flame Warden of Kalimdor
• Extinguishing Kalimdor

I even explored Badlands in the process (Well, the one last piece anyway)

The problem is, I took out Undercity and Silvermoon last night, and Orgimmar and Thunderbluff this morning.

When I handed in the Thunderbluff flame I was expecting some sort of big news…

• Give me: A Thief’s Reward
• Give me: King of the Fire Festival (Complete the quest, “A Thief’s Reward”, by stealing the flames from your enemy’s capital cities.)

Of course, it wasn’t until I read these posts that I realized they were the big news, and I am going to have to take on Undercity and Silvermoon once again.

I know, not a big issue… but I am slightly annoyed… (While being happy for the rest of you!)
