Priesting is not my thing.

I’ve rolled a couple, I know a couple, but they just aren’t my thing.

But I’ve learned a few things from them.. some of them friendly, some of them not so friendly, all of them teachers in some way.

I think one of the most underused spells in a Priest’s arsenal is Mind Control, and I don’t mean the Beware Mind Control in the wrong hands kind of mind control, but it will still make you do silly things.

Here are some examples…

Alterac Valley & Isle of Conquest

Wipe inducing

I enjoy frustrating the Horde when they are preparing to engage Van, but funnily enough it’s not easy as a Mage to get Van to come to my rescue. I have only one or two options.. taunt a Hordie far enough in the room for Van to stop cleaning his nails, or pop Mirror Images… For some reason, while the Images inherit my aggro, Van inherits theirs and he will charge to attack their enemies. I guess if I had a DK, I could pull them one by one to have a chat with Van, but it’s priests that have the real power to absolve the sins (through death) of the Horde (more…)

I have previously shared Naysa’s and Phlanker’s opinion on rogues.

While as a general rule I treat rogues like mosquitoes, slap randomly at the air and they pop their Cloak of Noob, there are times when I find myself reduced to inarticulate Rogue Rage myself.

I had two of those moments over the weekend in quick succession. In fact it was the proximity of the battles and the juxtaposition of their performance that has me still raging days later.

Act I

We enter Arathi Basin to find our team stacked with rogues… Seven of them, 7!

I’m not above using an unfair advantage and 7 rogues in AB is an unfair advantage.

The gates open, the rogues disappear, as they do, they are stealth after all (more…)

Seriously, they have to die… FIRST!

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again…

Magma Totems Must Die!

That is assuming they are at a flag in a capture the node game such as Arathi Basin or Battle for Gilneas.

They are close to the best node defense item in the game (more…)

So Cynwise & I have covered how to Ninja a node, now is the time to introduce, or refresh you in the A.B.C.’s of guarding a node

We all know our A.B.C.’s right…

They are…

A… B… C… blah, blah, blah… Next time won’t you sing with me?

Sorry I’ve been hearing that a lot over the last few years and I tend to zone out after C… I am going to assume you will do the same.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

A is for AoE

I can’t remember if I mentioned AOE in my Ninja post, well without the prerequisite expletive attached, not only in my blog posts, but also in BG chat.

AoE’s serve two purposes, both with the same end – to protect the flag (more…)

Mmmm.. I smell a Mage Ninja opportunity...

Cynwise taught you the basics of being a flag ninja.

Am I that far behind... really?

On a side note… I looked at my feed reader and there are 117 posts for Cynwise. I’m hoping this is a result of blog consolidation and not my slackness… although there is no question I am way behind.

Anyway, back on topic, after he posted, we discussed on Twitter how easy it is to fall into the “grand scheme” strategy of BGs and miss the smaller tactical details.

So if he can take it down to the detail of being a Flag Ninja, I can take it down one step further (I’m a Gnome, it doesn’t go down much more than that), to being a Flag Ninja: Mage Style.

This post is also for non-Mages, you need to understand your enemies intent (more…)

Guarding the Bees

As my dear, departed Dingo would say…

I’m guarding the bees… again?

Actually I wont say what he says next, I do still have a few well worn if occasionally broken standards.

Ohhh… he’s dear because, well he awesome…

and he’s departed because he’s gone to the dark side…

Just stand here and scream

When Dingo joined us first for battlegrounds, he was a little undergeared, well ok he had no PvP gear.

At the time we were running Arathi Basin over and over, so he was immediately posted as our Stables guard.

While he was getting honor, often his only action was the odd /dance.

If he saw more action that that, at least early on, his incoming call was usually accompanied by a “rezzing now”.

Guarding nodes was Guarding the Bees… somehow that makes it better for me, though it did make it worse for him (more…)

and really it is the easy way (accepting the alternative is just praying that it happens), but that doesn’t make it easy.

In a sense the hardest part is getting 14 other people to start the game with the same mindset…

Aim to lose – Come back for the win.

For a while my friends and I were casually practicing that attitude, basically screwing about in the AB for a while, then going hard for a win, the problem was we never got close enough to losing (500 point behind) to “win” the achievement.

I blame all those win focused players, you know, we all hate them, some of the bastards write blogs on how to win the game quickly and efficiently.

I spit on their balding green haired heads… bloody Gnomes!

So yeah, you need to stack your team with people that are OK with a loss, a lot of loses, to achieve the goal.

Luckily I am in a guild with a lot of good losers, but beyond that, think of it as practice. Even if you don’t achieve the 500 point deficit, you still want to practice the comeback. They aren’t loses.. just practice sessions.

Stacking your team with mates is a good starting point. Even if you don’t have 15, the more the better, as that’s less you have to convince that you aren’t a horde spy in the 30 seconds you have to explain your intentions and the strategy and buy their commitment.

For some the idea of coming that close to a loss purely for the sake of the achievement isn’t worth the time, or the risk to their honor, so you have to be persuasive fast. We tried not telling people, but then we just went back to practice sessions, because no matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t convince people to settle with less than 2 bases… and that’s the starting point 1 base only.

Here’s the rest…
