Come on guys, let them cap 5 and get it over with quick

Ever heard that?

I swear I have heard it a million times.

A million times too many.

Often very early in the battle, usually someone confident they can take on the enemy singlehandly and win, it is only the rest of us that are losing the game for them.

Here’s a tip for them, or for you if you are one of these people.

There is a very quick method of ending the BG, you don’t have to wait for them to cap 5, you don’t have to wait for the game to end.

Just quit!

You already have anyway, so why not let the rest of us get on with it (more…)

Uphill both ways in the snow

100 gold, a red power crystal, a couple of xmas recipes and the odd herb.

This was the contents of my Druid’s bags, which doesn’t mean it was all his. This was in reality the sum total of all my characters possessions, including my bank alt, last played 3 months before The Burning Crusade launched.

  • Years to accumulate 50 odd levels
  • Years to accumulate 100 gold
  • Years to afford a few 8 slot bags, a handful of 6 slot bags and rubbish not even a vendor would buy.

Then The Burning Crusade approached, our guild was in trouble, a new Oceanic server came online, and in the quiet of the night 5 players quietly rerolled on the new server.

Gnomeaggedon was born…

Getafixsnow was forgotten.

These were the days before server transfers, race changes, name changes, sex changes or even game changes.

Gnomeaggedon was born in these times as well, but he exploded eager into Outland, where epically powered greens fell from mobs giving five times the XP as the hardest Vanilla boss. Gold nuggets could be found rotting on the ground.

Not long after Gnomeaggedon reached Hellfire Peninsula he had his epic land mount, something that Getafixsnow (and Snowdabow before him) had aspired to, knowing it would be forever out of his reach.

Very soon after, maybe only weeks later, Gnomeaggedon had his first flying mount.

Gnomeadeaden leveled at Unholy, with a side of Blood when I was taking too much punishment.

Gnomeaggedon was Fire, only Fire. PvE – Fire, PvP – Fire.

Gnomeadeaden has never been good at either spec, but being the hero class, it really didn’t matter too much. So slowly my fingers learnt which buttons to press independent of thought and sight.

Of course, just as I was getting the hang of it, I swapped Unholy for Frost.

Frost and Blood are great for PvP. Blood is great as you can hold a node, or tank a Battleground boss for a long time without healers. You may not do much damage, but you are damn hard to kill… while you are alive, no one is touching that flag.

Frost on the other hand is great for stopping and killing. Chains of Ice don’t just snare, but also trap. Hungering Cold will Iceblock a bunch of folks, giving you time to pick your target, or a chance for your flag carrier to get away.

I think this guy disapproves of many people at the PvP vendors

If only I could remember the keybinds! (more…)

Tanking Battlegrounds

I think of BigBearButt frequently. I link to him just as often.

One of the reasons I do, is I love his passion for playing WoW. Like all of us he reaches low points, yet unlike many he finds new inspiration, or is reinspired by different aspects of the game.

He even hit his 1st Cataclysm raid the other day and came out with more boss kills than me… on his “alt”!

There is one part of the game that he hasn’t dipped his toe into, although he often says that he’d love to join me… You know, if he was going to lose his PvP virginity with anyone it would be me.

I want that virginity… I wonder if I can get an achievement for it?

Two things fueling my desire

Anyway, there are two things that have renewed my desire to get BBB… into BGs (more…)

What is the best dressed freshly dinged level 85 wearing to battlegrounds these days… and does it really matter?

Let’s go back about an hour…

This weekend I leveled Gnomeadeaden from 80 to 85.

I then grabbed the few guildies that were online and had my 1st (and most likely last) tanking experience in Crucible of Carnage.

Then I entered the BGs, SotA to be precise, as it was the Call to Arms for the weekend (more…)

No?

Ohhh, you mean the Blog Azeroth Shared topic is old!

The ones that get advertised on Twisted Nether Blogcast?

The one about whether my alts know each other?

The one that I read about at Illumination, where there is that family tree?

Pfft… what would you know about old?

I know, I know, another WSG post… that’s where I’m spending 99% of my time, so I guess that will be reflected in my posts.

WSG is a game about flags and the people that carry them.

It’s something you have to keep foremost in your mind when playing the game because it’s very easy to get the scent of blood and lose focus.

There are things that can easily change your focus:

  • Farming
  • Enemy names
  • Vendettas

Farming

Farming is something I understand well, having been on the receiving end for so long. The tide has turned recently for the Alliance and more often than not now we are wielding the plows and the Horde are the freshly tilled earth.

Farming is exhilarating, the complete domination of your opponent sends chills through your spine (more…)

In Australia we call the world game Soccer. Of course we have to, with more than 4 codes of football (the main ones being Aussie Rules, Rugby Union, Rugby League and Soccer) we need to be clear about which game we speak of. Growing up in Melbourne, some will argue the heart of Aussie rules, I follow this code. I was fortunate enough to have a father that respected all sport, so Soccer is familiar enough to me. One of the fundamental differences between Aussie Rules and Soccer is the final scoreboard. Aussie rules is a high scoring game, usually for both sides, so there is never a lack of GOAL! moments. Soccer… Well 0/0 is as valid a result as any. Simply looking at a final scoreboard just doesn’t give an indication of whether a game is good or not. The same us true of Warsong Gulch. The game will end in 25 minutes no matter what and a 0/0 result is just as valid (hey, if I’m not getting extra honor, neither are the Horde!). Everyone loves a quick 3 cap, I am no exception, but often that 3 cap is the result of the complete failure of one team rather than the excellence of another

Children’s Week and the memories of School of Hard Knocks spurred a little bloodlust recently.

Prelimnar tells me that Blizzard has encouraged him to love Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley through immersion therapy related to the achievement, and I guess it was a similar thing for me.

I have always loved WSG, but as a rule, Alliance have fared badly and end up running around like headless chooks.

I have been around Aussie Rules football long enough to know you “Play the ball, not the man”, but experience has shown that most ignore the “ball” in WSG, much preferring to shirt-front the players even when it means certain death.

However, being ranged and squishy, I have always played at range.  So when a flag drops, I am lucky if I can get to it before it despawns let alone beat a teammate (or the gods forbid and enemy) to pick it up.

As I say, Children’s Week reignited my love of WSG and my desire to get my hands on the flag.

Not the Horde flag, OUR FLAG!

So for the last couple of weeks, you could be pretty sure that I would be in WSG.  If I only got to do one thing, it was one WSG.

As the days have gone on, I have picked up some warriors in arms, Streakers players that either love WSG, or just felt the desire to help me reach my goals.

The fruits of my labor paid off last night (more…)

that you appreciate some clear information.

Sure it’s 2+ hours early, it’s a loss of a night of WoW (but then we Aussies have been paying for 7 days of WoW per week and only getting 6 since the servers 1st opened)… but at least it’s clear!

Every now and then I compliment Blizzard, or I dare say a closet Aussie at Blizzard, for putting up more than just the mysterious PDT.

Of course I also let rip reasonably often when there is rubbish warning about downtime, or rubbish updates about extended downtime.

However this is one of those positive moments in downtime alerts where not only is there PDT times, but AEST and a clear indication of what this time zone is with GMT+10 (east coast of Australia), so Kiwis, more-Western Aussies and all the Asian players on Oceanic servers can easily calculate their downtime (more…)
