Legitimate twinks: Our Parent’s ‘fess up

So the bastard sons and daughters will be acknowledged by their father in patch 3.2.

Now of course for many years now many players have considered twinkers bastards, especially when they enter battlegrounds with their stock standard toons for a bit of fun to break up the leveling grind.

I had a quick look through the patch notes this morning and noted that coming in patch 3.2 is the ability to stop earning XP.

This is awesome news on a whole lot of different levels, so let’s cover some of them (more…)

What’s your Mage bad at?

Ok so we discussed your personal best skill yesterday (yours rather than your classes defining skill).

Today we look at your worst.

Once again, we aren’t talking about worst skill per se (someone say wand specialization?), rather your application of a skill or technique that leaves you in tears and your mates rofl.

Well, I could write an essay or two on how bad I am at kiting or AoE grinding (I wouldn’t touch this anyway, not after Zupa’s response yesterday), but really I wouldn’t be telling you anything you didn’t already know, so let’s think about something else…

Probably my most misused spells are Amplify/Dampen Magic.

It’s probably the influence of the quantity of solo time, mixed with the bit of PvP I have done, but 99% of the time you will find me running buffed with Dampen Magic (more…)

What’s your defining skill, why and what are your tips?

I don’t necessarily mean your class defining skill, I mean what one skill that is related to your character do you do the best?

Before you give me the ones that you are worst at as well, leave that for another day… Like tomorrow.

What about Gnomer?

So what’s Gnomeaggedon’s “signature” move, why and how have I made it so?

That’s a hard question you know, and I won’t blame you for balking at providing your own answer. It’s much easier to identify your greatest weakness, rather than your greatest strength.

When is your DPS too low?

See I am still here!

Karch has been doing a great job answering his readers questions (why don’t I get questions? Oh yeah, I had one about whether you should stay Fire spec back in TBC. Apart from that they are just questions about help getting $millions out of Nigeria)

Anyway he had one the other day about how to fix low DPS, which prompted me to respond asking when do you know if your DPS is too low and does it really matter.

Now admittedly if you are only doing 1,000 DPS and you aren’t doing burning crusade content at level 70, then your DPS is too low.

I have seen on various forums that numbers such as 1,200 – 1,400 is acceptable for starting heroics and 1,400 to 1,600 is acceptable for starting Naxx (more…)

/stopcasting in Mage Macros: still relevant

A while back a commenter suggested that /stopcasting was no longer relevant in casting macros.

I had forgotten all about it until /stopcasting was positively mentioned in a comment by Velinath to my Magetard post.

I (respectably) disagree with the original commenter, and happily agree with Velinath.

Sure you don’t need it so much to combat lag… So much, because Blizzard fixed the casting system a while back to allow “queuing” of your next spell.

However, there are times, and more specifically spells that may require you to act instantly, canceling your current spell to launch the more important spell or skill.

If you have just started a 3 second cast, only to find:

  • The mob is coming right at you
  • Someone is cursed
  • You got ganked
  • A mob just got an uber buff
  • Your sheep broke
  • A mob is casting a nasty spell
