I harangued an old guildy, Tickk, enough to drag him away from SWTOR for a couple of nights.
He hasn’t played in a while, his gear is just a little bit behind, so when the question of whether to random the BGs or enjoy the SotA weekend, we went with SotA.
One of the good things about SotA is that is more forgiving of less geared players. It’s less Player vs. Player, more Machine vs. Player (and Player vs. Machine).
The other thing is that 2 coordinating Frost Mages can cause a lot of havoc in SotA.
Pretty soon we fell into a rhythm. We would play chicken with the 1st frost nova, but after that we would take turns and the Demos would lurch from nova to nova until they were destroyed.
Then I realized that not only were we destroying the Demos, we were also destroying the drivers.
Between Tickk and I we had 6 frost novas (2x: Frost Nova, Pet Freeze, Cone of Cold) and that’s before we take cooldowns or Cold Snap into account.
We normally took the Demos down within 5 of those, so the best part was watching the drivers scrambling from the exploding Demo, only to find themselves at the mercy of two Frost Mages and their allies, frozen with no escape.
It was slaughter. There was always one more nova in the barrel and those punks were never lucky.
I should have kept that Clint Eastwood picture for today….

As a healer I won every random bg I queue’ed for this week(6), and lost every sota(5), sota does just not suit healers, all I can do is cleanse the vehicles and if people don’t actually jump in them I can’t even do that. On the other hand I ran across to horde side in eots, horde tried to kill the healer and did’nt have the coordination to do so and ended up chasing with 3-5 horde not capping, not getting the flag just chasing the 4900 resil pvp spec pally on foot.
Cleanse cleanse cleanse cleanse cleanse! That is a partial counter to 2 mages… except for all those rogues and dks that like to protect the freezes with their slows.. I was feeling rather ineffective because of the lack of damage that others were doing. But that was what my time in SoTA was like this weekend… but I was having a horrible time winning on my pally in general over the weekend. Murphy’s law and all – because I only needed 1 win to cap my CP for the week (whereas my druid was winning consistently – and had VP to spare to reach the CP cap).
But I remembered your advice that SoTA was good for ungeared toons from when you were gearing up your DK – I took my crafted pvp gear DK in there for that reason. Howling Blast is fun – but I was a real glass cannon – fine unless I got targeted. However I was tossing up between working on my hunter or DK (as a third option since I’d capped my CP on druid and pally – and my druid only needs CP now). I’m definitely falling on the side of playing my hunter – I enjoy the ranged play and control they can provide… makes me think I should get round to leveling my mage…
