To which I respond…
No we’re not.
Kill them before they hurt you.
Focus their healers, send them to the graveyard 1st, make them wish they hadn’t joined the BG too.
A long time ago Gnomeaggedon joined the circle of healers meme. People thought it was novel, a joke, but I was DEADLY serious.
You don’t need healers to win a BG, you just need to make sure the enemy has none.
This was highlighted on the weekend and began with comments just like the title of this post.
A short time later, I had capped for the 3rd time and the enemy team never got out of the graveyard I was slowfalling over each time with the flag.
Healers are overrated.
Sure they help, but if you aren’t playing PvP as if healers didn’t exist, you probably deserve to die.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my BG healers.
As I said on twitter:..
3 things I have learned in WSG:
- Healers love Mage food
- Healers love Flag Carriers
- Healers love Mage food providing Flag Carriers.
But I don’t rely on their existence. I play knowing the only thing between me and death is me… then grin an evil grin when I discover I am getting heals.
Protect ‘em if you got ‘em!
Ohhh and speaking of healers.
I’ve mentioned this add-on before and Cynwise has an excellent post on the ethics of it.
What you need to know is, not only will it show you enemy healers, but it will also show you friendly healers as well.
There are two things you need to do:
Turn the options on.
Turn on enemy AND friendly name plates

I’ve been looking for something that automatically sets the role for healers
(Healers Have to Die)
Thanks. Great Post
My pleasure
I had that comment this morning in WSG to which I responded ‘You can still win without healers, I’ve done a lot in the past’, the players response was ‘we’ll look at the scoreboard’ – we were losing 1 to 0. My response was ‘No that is because they are actually playing together’ – which they were. They were playing the all together munch anything in your path tactic… which our flag carrier ran straight into and got dehumed and then they quickly capped.
Now about 20 seconds later we were down 2 to 0 because I wasn’t being supported at all with the flag. But I agree the sentiment is terrible. Actually – now I remember – we had 1 healer in that WSG – and the DK was willing to give up (note the 1 healer was the stand in the middle by myself and find myself dead type… so it wasn’t much of a boon anyway)
But had a frustrating time in the last few WSGs I’ve done… I still don’t understand the sentiment of the middle of WSG fighters… I was almost excited when we started up one and it seemed like everyone was heading towards the enemy tunnel. I thought finally we have some people with a clue – only to see them veer off at the last moment and engage in futile middle melee – they weren’t even taking down the enemy flag carriers. Will be glad when school starts again and I can get a better percentage of US players in the morning that seem to have more of a clue!
Rant over!
As much as I bang on about never giving up… I will be posting an example, over the span of two games, of the different effect of attitude over two consecutive games.
As for their attitude, maybe the next post explains it a little – that and Pugnacious Priests which I link to, Some people don’t need, or want to win the BG… that isn’t their objective.
“Healers Have to Die” and “Spy” (for detecting invisible & stealthed people) were the two greatest PvP addon recommendations i’ve ever gotten, and i am pretty sure i got both of them from here. SOOOOooooo worth it!
OH — i will also add that there’s an option in the “Spy” addon (apparently) to broadcast a text AND audio alert to everyone in your raid. i found it helpful to know when a stealthed person entered the area, but i had to turn off the broadcasting option because everyone else said it was annoying. : (
just thought i’d mention it if anyone tries it. it doesn’t affect the alerts for you, so it’s still helpful in that respect, but be warned that your team may not appreciate the info.
I think I installed Spy, or something very much like it, but found it a bit spammy – purely in the list of nearby targets.
That was a while ago, so I will give it another go…
