Leveling…
It was a hard slog for Gnomeaggedon. Few zones left unexplored, few quests left unsolved.
Squidly had a relatively easy ride. There was always money for a mount waiting at the right level, but still the early levels were trudged on hoof and 3 zones were completed before getting his ticket out of Outland. Then there was the grind through Northrend.
Gnomeadeaden has had it easy… easy… easy!
Let’s start with the fact that he was all grown up before he was born, fully geared before he left the “loving” arms of the Lich King.
Add to the mix that mobility isn’t an issue. Sure I miss the ports, oh how I miss the ports (You know, I really think Blizzard should reintroduce the ports to Shattrath and Dalaran, even if you had to skip about to reach a final destination, flying to gates or waiting for boats really doesn’t add anything to the game).
Add a playstyle that supports facerolling and life is pretty damn good. It took me a good 10 levels to work out what approximately I was meant to be doing, yet I was still topping meters the whole time.
The leveling speed… That is insane!
One of my mates logged on one night and congratulated me on level 72…
Weren’t you level 60 yesterday?
Exploration is giving me 3% of a level (yay flying mount!)
Quests that are giving me 10% of a level.
Battlegrounds giving me 20% of a level.
Instances giving me 25-30% of a level.
Then there are the professions. I chose skinning and mining for leveling, kind of traditional. The thing is, gathering professions really are for leveling these days. I was getting 2-3 times the XP for tapping unguarded ore than I was for killing a mob.
Why kill mobs?
Ohh to kill them!
Combine slaughtering of innocent animals with my skinning knife and I am gaining not just levels, but enough gold to pay for all my levels of flying – before I reach Northrend!
The weird bit and it really does feel weird, is the way in which I disregard the needs of the inhabitants of the world.
Hi, you must be the Gnomeadeaden I have heard so much about.
I need your assistance with the collection of 10 widgets to make the thingymagiggy wo…
Hey come back!
It’s not like I am even picking or choosing. I’ll grab the quest like a good little Gnome, collect 30% of the required widgets, then showing my Deathknightly disregard for all living things, I toss the precious widgets in a heap as I head to the new zone… new expansion area.
It’s a struggle to just stop and stay anywhere long enough to get the flavor for an area. I’m currently at the Argent Tournament and just doing the dailies, one set, is nearly enough to ding my way to Cataclysm.
Sometimes when I’m in an instance I am playing with people that do less dps than the healer – they outlevelled their gear ages ago.
Other times I will have people making my Deathknightly facerolling look pathetic – but I’m guessing they are more appropriately geared.
There was a time, a while back, where I wrote about using RAWR while you leveled. This isn’t even important any longer. I’m going to get to Vashir wearing Outland greens!
I’m loving the DING reward… DING, DING, DING.
I’m unsettled by the amount of content I can skip.
Most of all I feel sorry for the NPCs who are already lacking in quantity of players to fulfill their wishes, but also have to deal with players flying past on their epic mounts with a disrespectful wave and a
So long suckers!
I don’t blame Malmortis for clinging to my cloak whereever I go.
I dare say, if he had any say in it, Arthas would wander back to the old world, just to get some attention… any attention…
It kind of reminds me of that old level 60 boss chat.
Orphans dropping like flies.
Be careful on your Old World Flying mounts… you may be the cause of more deaths than you expect.

I just created a new main on Durotan and I am feeling the exact same thing.
I’ll out level a zone in just a few hours! I keep herbalism up to date with my zones and I get soo much XP from it!
I’ve stayed strictly with questing instead of running instances or BG’s just so I dont out-level my current quests and have to grind them out just because they are linear questlines.
Since I am trying to level as fast as possible, do you think grabbing another gathering profession is a good idea?
I guess it all depends what your goal is.
If you want to do the quest lines, then you don’t really want to be leveling too fast and a second gathering skill is going to double the profession xp.
if you are less concerned about completing questlines and want any leveling boost you can get… then yeah grab the other gathering profession.. skinning is a good one because you just have to kill mobs, they get in the way.
I found that with Mining and a flying mount, I would do a quick spin of each new zone I entered… I would level my mining, get xp from that, pick up flight paths and of course get the exploration xp.
it’s kind of win-win, with an extra win
Thanks.. yeah I am speed leveling at this point. Spent my time leveling to 85 on another server.. this time is to get a level’d and gear’d quickly.
I am thinking Mining might be the way to go since I am at 57 and going back to every zone and killing / skinning appropriate level mobs will take alot longer than grabbing mining nodes. I should have considered that when I first started the toon tho. That would have been best (skinning)
Thanks!
From memory my profession levelling was pretty much equal… mining was ahead for a while, but find the right bunch of skinable mobs and you are maxed before you know it.
That said, if gold is an issue, mining wins hands down. So far the most profitable ores/bars (for me on Aman’Thul) have been from Outland at about 120g per stack… low-level Old world… meh… Northrend.. meh
Oh cool! Thanks. Yeah, new server.. no gold.
Well, herbalism has helped with that.
So that’s a good help.
And since I am hitting Outland soon.. thats perfect to know. I think I’ll level my mining to be on par with outland now.. just doing that should put me to lvl 58.
Thanks again!
Gratuitous naked gnome = pure win.
Pre-80 leveling is pretty insane these days. Even with no heirlooms and not doing quests, my belf pally dings without even trying.
You know I’m an exhibitionistGnome right?
Well, that’s a Pally too… so similar to a DK, it’s autorun/fight = win.
True .. except he’s holy with no offspec (and pure healy, none of that boost the damage to exorcism stuff), so it takes a week to kill anything. On the flip side though, I’m virtually indestructable. I kept three enemies busy in WSG the other day trying to kill me. That meant 2 of my teammates somewhere were free to go flag grabbing or whatever with no opposition.
Heal tanking is a wonderful thing… and if there are other’s around to do the killing, or BG winning, it’s all sweet, sweet XP.
There was a guy crying in WSG last night about how unkillable Paladins were… sure there was the 3 capping Pally, but I think 6 of my kills in that battle we Pallies… spellsteal them, cut them, counterspell them, eat them for lunch.
Makes me want to reup my account and level my Warlock. Then again it would be easier for me just walk in a hospital and get a sex change, without the awkwardness.
Mage 4 life! LOL!
Let me assure you that Gnomeaggedon is working overtime as well… especially at this time of the year when the orphans are brought to the slaughter… more on that next post.
Haha, that would drive me nuts! Bwemba was bad enough.
