No serious, don’t give up.
I’ve had two experiences in the last couple of days that just reinforce this.
WSG – Losing in style
The 1st was a loss in WSG.
It started as a typical loss… 12 people protecting our flag carrier, 2 of us trying to retrieve our flag, while the flag carrier bitched at us (the 2 of us trying to take our flag back from 5) endlessly.
I did explain at one point that if everyone wasn’t on D we might have had a chance… which he scoffed at, as he was too important…
You know…
I need 12 people to protect me, and 12 people to rescue our flag… why are you two so fail?
But when it was obvious it was lost, with about 10 minutes left on the counter, something strange happened.
I think we all reverted to “let’s get some honor kills” mode, but what happened was we pushed the Horde back, back, back.
Suddenly we had a cap.
With 3 minutes on the clock we had their flag, but they had ours.
We fought like madgnomes, it was insane, but the timer beat us in the end.
But, but we were this >.< close!
Don’t degenerate into mindless QQ early in a BG… there is an “enrage” timer (it’s called game end), so use it all.
Like my Dad used to say about one-day cricket. You have 50 overs, if you don’t last the 50 overs, you don’t deserve the win and if you do win, it isn’t a good win… you may have thrown it all away.
Overwhelming Odds.
In Arathi Basin I was left to guard the Lumber Mill flag.
Which is all good by me. I get a great view of the BG, usually there is more than enough action and I get to slowfall (with whispers provided by MageNuggets) my team mates as they rush over the edge to Blacksmith.
Unlike an earlier AB game which was complete chaos for the entire BG, Lumber Mill was ignored for ages.
Then a warrior came rushing at me.
Only one, but I called it… I always call them, even if I can in theory handle it… best not to have surprises.
No sooner had we engaged than a druid unstealthed at the flag.
I was worried. Maybe not overwhelmed by some people’s standards, but the fight just changed dramatically. One guy with lots of hit points, another guy with lots of damage and heals if required.
So, needless to say I called 2 at Lumber Mill.
i.e. I’ll hold them as long as I can, please send a little assistance.
However, before any assistance could travel any distance towards Lumber Mill I was making a new call.
LM Clear.
Yep I slaughtered them… don’t ask me how. For all my bravado I am not the best PvPer you will meet in a BG.
The one thing I did though was remain calm.
The fight had changed from 50/50 (from experience) to pack your bags and go home now.
But I remained calm and did what I knew I had to do.
The moral of the story?
Never give up.
Never
Ever
No matter how bad the odds, no matter how low you are on a scoreboard, there is always something to take away from the battle… even if it’s how to be a good loser – but usually by then you will have picked up one thing you did wrong, or one thing they did right that you might have a counter for next time.
Whatever it is, learn.
Speaking of scoreboards.
As I say, my skills at PvP are passing fair, but probably not much more. So it is no surprise that I have never been at the top of a scoreboard on Gnomeaggedon. Well, Pugnacious Priest has identified the one part of the scoreboard I do excel at, and frequently top… Deaths, but of course that’s not what I mean.
So after years of playing Gnomeaggedon, of playing BGs for fun and ummm honor, I finally hit the top of the board (in a relatively low scoring game…) but I was there!
So I was kind of celebrating this when I got a kick in the teeth.
Gnomeadeaden has just started in the BG grind at level 66.
Four BGs later who is at the top of the scoreboard?
Hmmmppph!
Not the 1st time I have admitted I am better off dead… I just hadn’t thought of playing unliving.

As hard as it is to *not* belittle some moron who doesn’t guard a flag after they cap it, you are correct.
Whenever I hit AB, I usually start with a “Call out incs, defend what you cap, and please don’t fight on the road.”
I then proceed to communicate and you’d be surprised how quickly it catches on with “LM Clear”, “Inc 3 BS”. and so on.
Many a game was won by that first domino.
i wish i had more experience in BGs to call out stuff, but i don’t have the head for such things when i’m trying to keep myself alive, lol. yesterday, in one Tol Barad battle, the only two things i saw the raid leader say were “why are all you idiots going to Slags!?” and “what a bunch of f*kin losers you are” as we lost.
i said, “well, nice leading there.”
but i totally agree with this post: don’t give up! i’ve been in plenty of battles where people whine and bitch the entire time, start bailing halfway through the fight saying we’ve lost already, and then in the last five minutes of the battle the tide turns and we win.
