I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but…
you are already dead!
So said TreeHuggerDave when we were in an Arena the other night.
I’m still dealing with latency issues an it can be humorous at times.
1 out of 100 times mind you.
It really plays tricks on your mind.
If you are casting, that instant cast spell stretching out over 3,4,5,10 seconds starts to alter your perception of time.
If you aren’t casting spells, it’s hard to tell that you are lagging sometimes. The client is doing it’s best to update and everything seems in place until
WHHHOOOOSSSSHHHH
it all comes back to the correct position.
The 100% health bars are now suddenly precariously low 100% to 5% in less than a second.
Wish my heals had the same effect.
Wish I could get this in RL, I could save a whole lot of money on illicit substances.
As DPS, as Gnomeaggedon, often it doesn’t matter that much. I know, no I feel my cast times. There is a familiar rhythm to playing Gnomeaggedon.
Living bomb – breath – scorch – scorch – scorch – cooldowns (mirror images, trinkets etc) – breath.
Even if it’s going wrong, as long as I have a commentary flowing lag free through skype I can adjust and perform.
Blink here
Sheep that
Iceblock now
Counterspell and destroy
On my DK (sssshhhhhh what DK?), things are a bit different. One of the great advantage of Gnomeaggedon, any caster for that matter, is that as long as the target is in LoS and in range, I can do damage.
With a melee class, range has a new definition. If I’m not in it’s face, I am out of range. Damn you mobs for moving, or for not having collision detection, how was I meant to know that I just ran straight through you and am now facing the wrong way.
Painful yeah, but on a DK, it doesn’t really matter. For some reason they don’t kill me and my Gnomish contraption that hangs just above my keyboard mashes the keys just fine.
My Gnomish contraption?
I have rigged up 1/2 dozen empty stubbies on string just above the keyboard, with one end of the string attached to the foot lever of the rubbish bin.
As I lift the bin lid to flick my cigarette ash, the bottles jiggle, bashing the keys in some arcane combination that far exceeds my own ability to mash DK abilities.
Squidly doesn’t have that luxury.
His role is to react to the incoming curses and damage. To only act when and as required.
I can’t spam madly (although I might try, and it might appear that way on occasions) spells and hope that my target is both in range and in need.
No, I can’t heal with a battle axe, this job requires the delicacy of a scalpel.
Unfortunately for TreeHuggerDave, when he says over Skype:
I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but you are already dead!
I know that he is waiting in the graveyard himself
(Although I am still waiting for the fight to commence, so he might be waiting for a while)
Gnomer and Out!
PS: lol
After a night of LagArena, to the point where I completely lagged out of 2 arenas and didn’t get into one until it was complete and then had to wait another 2 or 3 minutes for my PC to catch up, we pop into on arena and…

i love the description of your “gnomish contraption”! ; )
Yeah, the line about the DK gnomish contraption is gold.
