Dailies can be a bitch, especially when you are killing 14 ghosts, 12 spiders, 12 leftovers and collecting the odd femur and plank of wood. The mini bosses should be easy…
Problim, no problem!
But it never hurts to lend a hand to a toon in need, especially one unfortunate enough to be in an area heavily farmed up until moments before, so now respawning madly even though everyone has gone.
I don’t know about you, but when I am doing my “kill a kazillion insert-name-here” quests, I throw blind party invites out left right and centre.
Things have changed since LFG interface, a blind invite is useful 99% of the time.
I figure that if I can get these sometimes painful tasks over in 1/2 or 1/3 of the time, that is more time for fishing.
If I end a fight with a spare Hotstreak, I’m more than happy to launch it at the nearest mob, even if it is already tagged.
Alliance I invite, Horde I try to beat to the tag, but is shames me to say, I will help a Hordie out with a little extra DPS from time to time (especially if it’s a mob that needs to die before it will respawn).
I was hunting First Lieutenant Connor in Tol’Barad Peninsula the other day when I came across a Tauren Boomkin Druid by the name of Woodpaw.
He beat me to the tag, but I threw the odd scorch at the Captain, in part to get it over with, in part to reassure him that all those Tauren scalps dangling around my neck weren’t anything to worry about.
When Connor respawned moments later, Woodpaw let me get the tag, but them proceeded to Boomkin tank him while I slow roasted him.
When I left, he remained to help the next people through.
A little while later I received one of those coveted invites to join the battle for Tol’Barad.
It was a frenzy of killing, I was being my annoying best, my resilience level ensuring that I gained a loyal bunch of Horde followers trying to take down the buzzing Mosquito of a Mage.
At one point as I rushed needlessly into one of the keeps, I spied me some fried chicken, well he wasn’t fried yet, but I wasn’t in the mood for a slow roast, there were plenty of horde to cook, so I made short work of him.
Poor Boomkin… Gnomer countered your ability to cast… How sad, too bad…
As I turned to pick my next target, I saw the scrolling combat text flash up.
KILLING BLOW (WOODPAW)
Whoops!
Ahhh well, all’s fair in dailies and war right?
Origin of Boomchicken
I discovered the origins (true origins) of the name Boomchicken the other day.
Argot, occasional Armaggedon’s Coming author, Cyclone Yasi survivor, Boomchicken and Arena partner of both Gnomeaggedon and Squidly challenged me to a duel outside Stormwind the other day (well many duels, but then 70% of the guild were there as well).
I had plucked him good over several duels, but not learning his lesson (or maybe in need of a bit more teaching) he went for one more.
I decided to pluck him up once and for all.
No sooner had the fight begun, the BoomCHICKEN with only 20% health turned into a yellow scaredy-cat and ran, and ran and ran.
Unfortunately for him, hot on his heels was a mobile scorching, living-bombing, blinking Gnome.
I think the living bomb went off as he launched himself from the Stormwind bridge into the water of the Valley of Heroes.
No Boomchicken on my menu that time, but I think the phase is…
Feeding the fishes
Don’t run from a Fire Mage or you’ll end up with a Pyroblast up your birdcage.

I confess, I help Horde out on dailies too. I figure, eh, if they’re not flagged, might as well treat ‘em like another player.
We can always kill each other when Tol Barad starts up again.
The difference that one little icon makes… now that Paladin in Tol’Barad Peninsula was another story… shame for him I quest in PvP gear and spec
i help hordies out sometimes, too, just to prove to them that it’s not ALWAYS an “us versus them” sort of thing. i also do that with alliance people, if i’m out questing. last night in Twilight Highlands, a guildy and i were doing the Thundermar dailies (“Beer Run” escort quest), and there was someone doing the same escort right in front of us. we started helping him, and he in turn helped us, until we were both at the same spot in the quest. we had this large crowd of NPCs strolling along, and we were laughing and EASILY one-shotting the attacking NPCs. it was fun. we all saluted each other when we were done.
i’m glad i’m not the only one who tosses off the spare Hotstreak onto other people’s tagged mobs! i *hate* wasting those!
Actually, the hordies in Tol Barad running dailies are friendlier to me than fellow alliance players. Nothing chafes my ammo pouch more than a fellow faction member waltzing in on my camp and tagging everything or stealing ground spawns whilst I’m killing the bad guys guarding them…
I expect that from Horde, but I’m flabbergasted when fellow Alliance behave that way.
Pyroblast up the birdcage…OUCH.
I tend to help folks, regardless of faction, as well. 9/10 times they will help you as well.

I miss your always thought provoking posts!
I understand busy-ness, but with so many bloggers closing up shop lately, you have your loyal readers worried
/looks around for the gnome
I’m sorry that I have you worried (and yes I know I have both worried and loyal readers, as I hear from you from time to time, just to make sure).
Time and inspiration are in short supply right now, but I will at least try to give a stolen candle once in a while.
I have to confess that living on a PVP server sort of puts you off helping out a player from the other faction. Once you attack their mob they often switch and try and gank you. I will help out a lowbie if I am passing by but in general I don’t take the risk!
