Tip: The optimize upgrades list in RAWR is based on current gear, so a single different piece of gear (say picking up your fourth T10 piece) can change the whole upgrade landscape.
Don’t be Gnome, regenerate your upgrade list before handing out BiS items to Offspec rolls!
Kashinboner is a great bloke.
Pretty much a full stop right there, but anyway, Kashinboner is a reader that dropped me an ingame whisper in WG a while back. Unlike most readers he keeps in regular contact, recently dragging me into a battleground after a night of constant loses to have his good luck Gnome present for a nice AB win. He has regularly asked if Squidly wanted to come to ICC, which until recently was out of the question gear wise.
We were chatting the other night as we each jumped in a ICC25 pug (separate pugs, just a coincidence).
My pug was struggling to to grab healers and had their heart set on a Tree.
Meanwhile the Raid Leader was constantly spamming raid chat telling us if we couldn’t stay in the raid till 2am, we should drop group now. It was about 10pm so that made some sense to me I guess.
Of course I wonder whether he was spending more time warning us about 2am than hunting for the missing players.
Ohhh advertising a raid that is filling fast when there are only 7 people in the raid and it takes over 30 minutes to fill… Isn’t filling fast.
The raid leader was doing a count back of the healers in the raid but missed me in his talley. Vein the sort of guy I am, I pointed out his omission.
Squidly: you also have Shaman heals.
RL: No offense, bit I don’t consider Shaman to be effective heals. A Tree is significantly better, as are Paladins and priests.
Finally, finally, we got not one but two Tree healers. All good by me… Less work for the lowest common denominator in healers.
Of course by now I am sharing my mirth with Kashinboner. We both thought it was a bit of a joke, but whatever.
At the end of the night (12am due to the crazy wipes due to pure stupidity on Fester and Rotgut) the Trees were solidly in 3rd and 4th position.
The Pally healer was in 2nd position.
Squidly, the lowly, barely capable of healing a flesh wound, healer was in 1st position… But only by 5%
Admittedly chain heal takes no prisoners, so there is a good chance that I stole the Druid’s targets before their hots got a chance to tick.
Still at the end of the night I couldn’t resist.
Squidly: Damn RL, you were right… Shaman can’t heal!
Pwning the Pally
As I say, I had been chatting to Kashinboner about this the whole time and much merriment was had.
The next day though, the challenge was on. No sooner than I logged on I got a whisper from Kashinboner asking if Squidly was saved to ICC10, cause the needed my 1337 healing skills.
I guess they couldn’t find a Tree…
The Drunken Knights were rolling good fun.
The folk from Drunken Knights were a great bunch of people and we had a great time, even the young guy rolling on spellppwer gear and asking whether cloth was better than plate for his Ret pally.
He was the source of great amusement (in a friendly lighthearted way I assure you). His enthusiasm was infectious. Even questions like:
YoungRetPally: so you think we can take LK tonight?
Squidly: Mmm we can’t take down Putricide or save Dreamwalker, so probably not.
5 minutes later…
YoungRetPally: so you think we can take LK tonight?
Squidly: LK is easy… It’s just the 5 bosses before him that keep wiping our faces in our own blood that might slow us down.
I know I was heading somewhere before the YoungRetPally distracted me…
Oh yeah Shaman Heals > Pally Heals kk?
I was very surprised to see that I was beating Kashinboner on the meters for the first few bosses. I might have even stirred him up a little.
It fell apart after that though and the next couple of bosses we hit I was quickly OOM and healing as well as Gnomeaggedon does when he’s out of bandages (must remember to make some more).
As we parted for the night I noticed I had been healing in my PvP gear since the gunship (where btw another Heroic Spyglass dropped /cry).
Well, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Les Magnifiques – I used to be in Les Mag’s a while back. In fact they took me into Naxx a couple of nights after I turned 80 and filled me full of epics. That was a long time ago, but it was nice to catch up with them and the awesome raidleading of Madamehell

I have to admit i’ve been pretty anti shaman healers this expansion. I’m yet to find one that can in generally better gear than the priests/druids/pallies of our raid group get even remotely close on the healing metres in both output and effectiveness.
Part of me wonders if I’ve just been unlucky and only come across average players and that there are shammies out there who could compete.
I know this has to be a possibility because another aussie blogger has been really anti healing priests all expansion – they seem so average in comparison to their other healers which had me dropping my jaw in amazement.
I am still hoping before the expac closes out that I get in one PUG where I find myself having to work hard to keep up with a shammy healer because it’s always felt wrong to me that one class could be considered sub par to all the others doing the same job

Thanks for the shout out bloke….the good news is that YoungRetPally is now well on his way to understanding Strength is good, Spellpower less so.
Got another icc10 scheduled for Thursday if Squid isn’t saved by then….we still need leet heals.
Shamans are great healers! My shaman is way less geared than my pally and she heals way better! It’s possible that I’m just better at it though.
