Yeah so Fire Festival… What do I think?
I think it sucks!
I was looking forward to it, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the little fiery pet that eluded me last year while I dodged wife aggro to log on last year and beg and plead for groups to have a crack at Ahune for his pet.

Yeah LAAAAAAG.
My usual 60-odd Dalaran fps is now topping out at 0.7fps.
Yes, LESS than one frame per second!
The solution is simple, get out of Dalaran. Which I did. Like Gnomes of the past, I sought refuge in Ironforge, glorious lag-free Ironforge (ha! Would have liked to hear someone say that back in Vanilla!).
I then accepted an invite to ICC.
Hey, what’s with making the weekly raid boss an ICC boss? I doubt many people are going to waste a lockout on a single boss, therefore the average Gnome on the street won’t be completing that quest.
Anyway, I’m a smart Gnome, so I don’t port to Lagaran to head to ICC, instead I hearth to the Argent Tournament Grounds.
I’m flying from the tournament grounds to ICC when I notice a shadow on the horizon at the corner of the screen, I turn to look at it and see…
LAGARAN!

Yeah, the power of the Mages and their miraculous Disconnecting device extends across zones, a glimpse of the shadow of Dalaran is enough to strike heroes down.
Not much playtime
So between downtime, Lagaran and work, I haven’t had much time for WoW, or anything WoW related.
I did take a minute to read up on the Fire Festival though.
- Individual sacks of loot – excellent
- Chance for sack to contain pet – excellent
- Ahune’s Fiery pet replaced with Icy Pet – WTF!
I completed the Fire Festival last year on Gnome, even wrote some guides about getting to the fires using TomTom. The only thing I wanted and was deprived of, was the pet.
Yes, 5 attempts each night for the whole Fire Festival and I didn’t even see the pet drop, let alone get my hands on it.
This year, THIS F’N YEAR, we get one crack at the pet per day and they have taken the Fire Pet away!
Dear Blizzard, please catch a plane to Oz so I can smack you black and blue! Yes, all of you, CEOs, Developers, Designers, Publicity, Janitors. The lot of you come here, form an orderly line and wait your turn as I smack you up one by one.
So yeah, Fire Festival… Whatever.
It breaks my heart to use the words Fire and whatever in the same sentence, but… Whatever.
One positive note, the LFD tool for Ahune works…

Positives for Fire Festival: defending the flames. Spent hours the first night defending Silvermoon until they finally figured it out and ressed at the same time… 8 of them. Still stayed alive for a good 4 minutes… Whoever and where ever that healer was: <3
Ahune is to Frost Mages what Onyxia is to Fire Mages
Well, Dalaran is a flying city so no wonder it chases little gnomes, trying to inflict lag on them…

I think it’s the Locks. I think they have taken control of the city’s laginator and are shooting Mages out of the sky and off the streets.
You didn’t get the Fire Festival pet…and you are surprised??? It is because you are an evil gnome. Gnomes don’t get those awesome rewards. These are rewards for sweet elf druids like myself so when my pet drops, I’ll let you pet him:) Cause thats the kinda druid I am…always sharing.
Meh… You can have the frosty rock pile… I want the flaming (in the swear word sense) elemental!
i had forgotten that you didn’t get the scorchling last year. i’m sorry… as a fire mage as well, i know how important it is (er, was). i had my scorchling out last night in SW, and i kept getting wsps from people saying things like “how did you get that?” and “where can i get one?” — i felt bad, so i had to put him away.
oh, and PS — happy birthday, Celeglin. any (magey?) follower of da gnome is a friend of mine!

Not sure if this is still any help for Lagaran – but there is apparently a blue post on some board or another with lots of technical mumbo-jumbo about memory and 64-bit OSes and such.

Ahh thanks for that. that’s exactly the problem.
The biggest issue for me, is in PvP the opponents you can’t see, are the ones that have already killed you.
I have tried reducing the other settings.. I’ll just keep logging reports to Blizzard.

Smells like Cataclysm.. I don’ care if I can buy if for a few troll scalps, I’ll be happy.
I sure hope that lag straightens out for you, I get random bits of it myself and it is just horrible.
Reminds me of a few months back when our lines were being upgraded and i had to play on dialup for 4 days. Those were some rough times.
Officially my lag issues are sorted. 60fps, 350 ms lag, video settings turned down.
Unofficially, instant casts often take 1 second, my global cooldown certainly has an additional unseen number on it.
But the game is playable again (generally).
I waved the big stick at my ISP ($5000 fine just for lodging the complaint), and new infrastructure was installed and once I laughed down the offer of a $50 refund (I told them I’d go with $50 so they got the $5000 fine) I got (basically) a full refund for the last couple of months.
