I mentioned the other day that I knew of a Lock that had been reformed.
Fresh out of rehab, he contacted me to tell his story, so all Locks of the world would know that there was still hope of redemption.
I need to point out that this is the same ex-Lock, that took great pleasure in taunting me only a few months ago…
For now, his story:
To the Maging Community:
Yesterday I found myself flying over Wintergrasp Fortress and I noticed down in the chat panel (mine is in the lower left corner of the screen FYI) that
Wintergrasp Fortress is under attack!!!
Seeing that we (Horde) were in control of the Fortress (we rarely are) I found it my duty to investigate said attack. I spot a ‘lock spamming incinerates at the NPC guards.
What should I do?
I heard that inner Gnomeaggedon inside my head.
I dismount, pop Slow Fall, POM + Frostfire Bolt, Arcane Barrage then Fire Blast.
He’s dead before I even hit the ground. I leave that poor Gnome Warlock smoldering like the embers of last night’s bonfire. After I trounced that poor, poor Warlock, it hit me. I have just gone and done something wrong, not like accidentally forgetting to put the cap on the toothpaste wrong, but more like cheating on your girl friend with her sister wrong, (Oh Yeah!!)
Now you out there reading this are probably thinking…
So? I wreck face like that all the time.
Here is my dilemma, but I think a round of introductions are in order…
What I was…
My name is Nymesis. My main is an 80 Horde Orc Warlock.
As a matter of fact, he was my first toon that I created. I have numerous alts, but I always came back to him. I loved playing on my ‘Lock (yeah I emphasized that on purpose). He put up good numbers, had utility while raiding and when PVP’ing could just completely crush egos. I never thought I would like playing another toon as much. But how does that relate to the story above?
It doesn’t quite frankly, except that I just completely crushed that poor Gnome warlock with my Mage. Did I mention that it (?) was a Gnome? (I can never tell one Gnome from another, they all look alike.)
and Who I have become!
That’s right. A Mage!
I created a Mage a while ago, leveled it to 80 and just simply forgot about it. I wasn’t interested in gearing that toon immediately and I had raiding to do on my ‘Lock after all. But after a bout of guild drama which led to the complete decimation of my raiding guild (/goodbye CoTS), I needed a change of pace. I opened my character select screen and logged on with Seryph, my BE Mage.
Damn, I felt like a Newb again. No rotation to speak of, wearing quest greens and blues, talent points just thrown into the frost tree. Now I just don’t go and do things half assed. I begin to study. I scour the tomes of Elitist Jerks, MMO Champion, and the WOW forums (among others) looking for advice, gear selections, rotations etc. I slowly but surely begin to fix that laundry list of bad selections. And yes, gradually, I began to love weaving Fireballs and Pyroblasts. Throwing around Living Bombs makes me smile and I must admit that there is nothing better than a Blast Wave, while next to a cliff, when some random Gnome isn’t watching his positioning in AV.
Go ahead and back up for that Charge Mr. Warrior!
Blink + Blast Wave = me LOL’ing as you fall. Follow that up with my instant Flame Strike for good measure on your teammates.
Draining of a different variety, fun of a new persuasion!
Now I have drained my ‘Locks account, I think he’s sitting at about 75g now with nothing in his bags except some random soul bound crap and some soul shards. I almost logged in with him the other day to double up on my dailies, but…
I just couldn’t log off my Mage.
I was having too much fun!
I almost have my Mage ICC ready, I won’t be topping the charts, but I won’t be at the bottom either.
So here I am now, on bended knee, humbly asking the Mage community to accept this poor ‘Lock turned Mage into their brotherhood.
Seryph and Out!
A little footnote.
I have to give Nym… err Seryph huge props for writing a guest post. It’s not the kind of thing that comes easily, I know that, so to not only maintain an email conversation over the last few months, but to rise to my challenge of a guest post. This isn’t something that has happened since last year when I called for guest posts for my Blogaversary (Yes Prelimar, you too are a non-blogger-champion for rising to that challenge)
A truly heroic and Mage-worthy effort from our reformed Lock!
I am honored!
I am humbled!
Err who am I kidding.. humbled… never, honored, definitely!
Gnomer and Out!
