Cynwise reminded me that Children’s week is coming next week… err tomorrow… for me. Not only that, but has provided an AWESOME guide for veterans and reluctant noobs alike in The School Of Hard Knocks.
Endario suggested I get my rant warmed up. It’s going to be a hell of a week in the Battlegrounds, whether you know them back to front, or only discover the BG interface tomorrow.
I will rant of course. I love to rant. My next achievement will score me the title
Gnomeaggedon the Mad Ranter
I’m also a little /silly.
So when I started thinking about this (and realized that I don’t have the achievement myself – two rants coming up) it occurred to me that having Orphans in the BGs could be a little fun, if we are proactive about it.
What is your 1st reaction when someone gets their Orphan on?
I bet it isn’t…
Ohh yay, noob PvE’rs hunting achievements in my BGs!
It’s more likely to be...
F’n noobs in their F’n PvE gears destroying my F’n BG fun.
Now let’s look at it from the other side of the fence. No I’m not talking about the BG experience fence, we already know the BG noobs are trembling in their virtual boots. Let’s look at it…
Across the Faction Fence.
When you see an enemy charging down a node with their Orphan out, what’s your 1st thought?
How about:
F’n noob, you will die before you know what hit you!
Bait & Switch
So if we all know that “the only people in the BGs with their Orphans out” are noobs… Let’s invite attacks from the enemy by appearing to be noobs!
This will achieve several worthwhile goals at once:
- it will make the noobs a little more comfortable, a little less exposed.
- it will confuse the enemy, as they won’t know who the easy targets are any more.
- it might get you an achievement you didn’t know you didn’t have.
One more body from a distance, means one less attacker coming your way.
I often get my Argent Squire out for arenas. To be honest I don’t like this “pet” (The stupid Squire needs to ask Gnomeaggedon of Gnomeregan which faction banner he should carry… back in your box squire), but when we burst out of the gates, it’s one more body the enemy team has to filter out.
From Lumber Mill, 3 players and their Orphans may be easily confused for 6 players. Who doesn’t want twice the numbers of the enemy?
Enough smoke & mirrors, let’s get friendly!
Over the next couple of day, knock up this macro to spam while waiting for the game to commence.
/bg Welcome to my Battleground Achievement Hunters!
/bg You have a goal I would like to help you with. Please press 1 now if you are here for Children’s Week.
/bg Everyone take note. Let’s help them help us. Where possible let them cap or carry.
/bg Achievement Hunters please return the favor by helping us win – follow instructions, call incomings and don’t drop out once you have your cap
/bg You never know, you might enjoy it and we might get a great new Battlegrounder!
Gnomer and Out!
Edit:
Their way, or the Highway
I just noted that Cynwise has come up with two more excellent suggestions on this topic:
Take you pick.. enjoy yourself either way!

When you see an enemy charging down a node with their Orphan out, what’s your 1st thought?
- “I wish they’d not removed the ‘Once an Orphan’ achievement.
Ohh come on Klep… I’m sure I saw you chasing those Orphans around with a bag of lollies…
I approve. Next week is the week to be helpful, not to let your blood pressure boil over.
Or raid Tarren Mill
Exactly.
I took on an orphan on my last toon but found myself very abusive to her. I would often /slap /fart and really was an unworthy guardian, however, even with all the bitch slaps I got my pet:) No charges laid, so its all good.
/evil grin
lol.. that must have felt good considering RL job… we all have to let off steam somehow…
“So if we all know that “the only people in the BGs with their Orphans out” are noobs… Let’s invite attacks from the enemy by appearing to be noobs!”
… You sneaky little gnome!
Gnome… yes…
Sneaky.. I can’t tell you that
back to the beatings i cant wait! This is going to be a fun week!
Been handing out the beatings.
No Orphan… fair game.
Orphan… fair game.
Lock.. with or without Orphan… primary target.
OMG Gnomey! It’s happening!
Unreal Realities: PvP takes over the guild
Did you read that? New blood in BGs… and Alliance are winning!
Wow that’s awesome.
Funnily enough, that’s how I just spent the last few hours… 4 mates, EotS, AB etc…
1st EotS group was a little disorganized – but it was made clear at the beginning to take turns and then support others… while trying to win (and no, not by me!)
The next one, my 5man held mid.. ushered flag carriers in and out… it was fantastic…
Everyone that needed it got a cap and it was a 4 cap win!
That’s a great post, because it is so true… once the balance is tipped with your mates, or guild, it can easily become a No. 2 past time… even No.1 (let’s face it… same old heroic… boring! Every BG is fresh!)
