It’s a little thing scratching at the back of my mind, but it’s become an aggravating pain since Dechion’s and BBB’s posts have been hijacked from arsehat behaviour to “Dechion is not 1337 enough to play in my sandpit”.
It has been refreshed by the relatively friendly combat occurring on Arioch’s Clearcasting, starting in the comments of OK in UK, spawning a guest post by Dark/Soth and a rebuttal on DotsandHots which then lead to baseball analogies by Arioch, and even Jong’s point of view.
Heroics don’t belong to anyone and the certainly don’t belong to the 1337!
The objective of the is to provide fun while gearing you for later 1337ness.
Blizzard has complicated that recently with the random-dungeon-emblem-fest.
Now players pulling 7k DPS are bitching and moaning about players only doing 1,500-2,000 DPS.
Wake up call sunshine – that’s what is required for the instances!
Admittedly 500-700 DPS is a bit low, OK, way too low, but the Blizzard system allows them entry, so they must be geared enough.
If they aren’t, then probably the best way for them to gear up is… What? Random heroics?
Ohhh yeah, they get drops, they get emblems. They might be useful contributors by the end of the week… If…
- If arsehats don’t drop group.
- If arsehats don’t kick them.
- If arsehats don’t harass them.
The hazing days are over
Didn’t you know that the military is attempting to remove hazing and “initiations” because rather than introduce a sense of camaraderie, it induces a sense of entitlement.
I got treated like shit, therefore I will treat others like shit as soon as I can.
Ganking & corpse camping on PvP servers instills a sense of “right”. It is right to gank lowbies and it is my game given right to do so!
So here’s the news flash, if you are so uber that you don’t need lowbies and they are spoiling your fun then:
Do one random a day, get your Emblems of Frost and FUCK OFF!
Ohh and on a completely unrelated side note.. I just kicked from a party doing a random dungeon.. Heroic A Noob.
- The tank had the highest dps at 2,200 dps, yet couldn’t hold aggro.
- No one could see the Resto Shaman at the back of the pack getting slaughtered by the mobs
- The hunter didn’t even bother to revive his pet after it took a dirt bath on the 2nd pull.
- We downed the 1st boss, only after I reincarnated after getting slaughtered by the lose mobs on the 2nd pull
- The tank had the bright idea of reseting the 2nd boss and taking him and all the spawns down under the web.. but after popping everything containing mana that I had, they all retreated leaving me to try and get away.
- Right before the final boss, the kicked me…
These guys weren’t elitist jerks, they were just jerks.

If you’re THAT 1337, GTFO of my Random Rungeon!

Hey, you know it was bad if I had to resort to sports analogies.
Had to be Terrabad!
“…which then lead to baseball analogies by Arioch, and even Jong’s point of view.”
Uhm, did you mean baseball analogies by JONG, and even Ari’s point of view?
My alt project pally was recently kicked from a group. I think based on my flamboyant Mojo-masked DTK mace. It was a humbling experience.
seriously going to have to sack my proofreader.. how did that get through?
They kicked Jong…
I pity them their nightmares…
The asshattery of the LFG/LFD system seems to be growing daily.
I agree wholeheartedly with your anger and dismay.
Unfortunately, when I get treated like a dick, I tend to respond in kind, *possibly* with a little escalation, so that my recent (and only) time getting kicked wasn’t ENTIRELY unwarranted.
But seriously, me doing 2.5k DPS (across 3 mobs), while targeting/attacking the marked target, is NOT that much threat.
And if a DK Tank in i245 gear can’t keep aggro against THAT, I don’t feel like I screwed up in the slightest. It’s not like I have any great instant aggro dumps either…
Sorry for the long reply, but just want you to know that many of us feel your pain…
yeah I have had problems with 2 groups recently where the tank couldn’t even hold healer aggro…
of course it was my fault when we wiped.. even tho I would be down 1st
Its still an “Us” vs “Them” thing, and while LFG randoms have made PuGs a bit better, its still a total mess of players with totally different goals and expectations.
Hardcores in 245+ want every run to take less than 15 minutes, and can’t tollerate anything less than perfect. They make the upper end of raiding seem undesirable, as without perfection you are nothing.
Casuals want a good run, are tolerant of the odd mistake, but need everyone to pay attention and not slack off. They will wipe, won’t have it perfect, and may like to talk.
Asshats want to be on follow to the healer, and are probably in GChat or watching TV while playing. They’re often also rude or poorly informed. A lot of people who say they are casual or hardcore are actually asshats in disguise, but they don’t actually know it. The level of gear or performance you make is moot once you establish yourself as an asshat.
Of the three I would prefer to play with the Casuals.
Sure a Hardcore group is great, but they might kick you and will certainly be arrogant and rude about gear/dps/threat/heals/etc.
I feel your pain too Gnome, and wish I could play more than a few hours a week, despite all the brain-dead players and alts who are around at the moment.
If its any help I think that the player base will die off soon, as the Pro-players will have finished with the Heroics, and the asshats will get tired and realise they’ll never see more than the first boss in ICC. They’ll stop playing.
That will leave the same people who were in LFG before this whole mess was added; the struggling mix of folks who just want to get the dungeon completed. I look forward to it.
Lordy.. a post for a comment… and a comment that becomes a post!
[...] Gnomeaggedon has a darn good post about how the Hardcore folks do not own the LFG randoms, and Gearscore checks and general 5k dps requirements are a total joke in random heroic runs. [...]
“Random Rungeon”
WTB Proofreader that isn’t rushing away!
On holidays without net or even phone coverage, so responses tomorrow…
Even the old gnome is writing on this topic! What happened to the not-jumping-on-the-bandwagon?
Great post gnomer!
There is a bandwagon these days?
I think the only reason I discovered the other posts is that I have been keeping up with Jong.. that’s it… I had already written the post.. they just gave it more fuel
will get back into the reader next week and find some more wagons to chase down.

Actually blizzard system is pretty optimistic. Doing random normals it gave me PoS 90 mins after I dinged 80. I have my ZA hat. my level 70 pvp gloves, my level 70 brewfest trinket etc. Still I did my 1800 dps and we cleared it.
But their are alternatives to the heroics, its not the only choice, and lack of gear does not escuse doing 1200 dps while wearing 4pce t9. 1500-1600 dps is my cut off, below that its not a lack of gear its not trying. Party total dps of 5000 or so? Dont kill the skirmishers first so they fixate on me the healer? I will take the 15 min debuff ,thank you and try again later.
I’ve been pretty fortunate, in that I’ve only really encountered one asshat. But then, I generally don’t go into randoms solo; I’ve usually got at least one friend along.
On the flip side, this weekend, I got to see an epic heal-fest as a tree kept a tank-in-training alive after the rest of us died, against the last boss in Heroic A N00b, and last night, I had one of the funnest pugs I’ve ever been on, even though we all died at one time or another.
Happy to play with people fitting criteria below:
Performance appropriate for gear. At lvl 80, at least 1k for dps.
Not ADHD. Caps + poor spelling, random look at me phrases are not accepted.
Knows their class – e.g. buffs & debuff ability. No DPS specced tanks or tanks who DPS.
Takes advice if new to instance.
Not rude. I know polite people are hard to come by on the net. But no one should tolerate potty mouths with foul attitudes.
