Every now and then I have one those BGs that just grabs me by the short and curlies (lots of short here, not so much curlies).
Going back a few days…
AV was failfest.
While on average Alliance are still winning more AVs than not, there are some days where the keyboard shorts out for the tears floating amongst the keys.
Pseudo Premade… well 3 of us anyway
Then a couple of days ago I joined up with the remnants of a PuG instance group to run AV.
Man that was fun!
For some stupid reason Blizzard breaks your party on entering AV (I joined in a group of mates, leave me with them!)
However, we were close enough often enough for me to lay heals on them and it added a whole new flavor to the game.
We rolled the Horde 5/0 before we went our separate ways.
Then there was yesterday…
It was back to the fail fest I know and hate so much. Don’t get me wrong, I can live with the odd loss, but there is one thing that bugs me:
People.
People who:
- Leave a loosing BG 3 minutes before the end.
Why?
- I get a 3 minute loosing AV when you quit… Thanks
- I get another 20 minute wait, only to discover you dropped group again leaving me with 3 minutes to get to the front line and then another 20 minute wait.
Anyway I saw a Mage I had Pugged with was in AV. I whispered her and asked how it was going, if she was faring any better that I.
Unfortunately she wasn’t.
I joked with her that if only I joined earlier I would change the outcome, save the day… If only…
Better live up to my bragging
Unfortunately a couple of minutes later I was in there with her.
The one difference was that instead of the 100/505 and 30/300 reinforcement battles I had joined, this one was 300/400 (ish).
Actually, there were 3 other important differences:
- The BG leader knew what he was doing and was issuing smart commands.
- The raid group, practically to a player, read and followed instructions from the BG leader that knew what he was doing.
- I was there
As usual, Galv was a lost cause, but the BG leader encouraged us to skip him and move forward.
We pushed forward to FWGY (Frostwolf Graveyard) and we were almost holding our own. The numbers were now 179/243 reinforcements.
Fall Back!
The the BG leader issued his next big command.
Respawns to hit Galv!
And we did.
There were still 1/2 dozen or so engaged at FWGY giving the impression that was our goal, but Galv was one shot and the battle changed.
174/140 reinforcements – we were ahead for the 1st time!
Call the Reinforcements!
We pushed forward again but we were still struggling, 88/105, that’s when his next command rang out.
Take the two mines and camp them!
We were struggling at the Horde Entrance. They had us bundled up and we were in all sorts of strife 40/88
Fall Back!
Fall back to FWGY, stay there if respawning.
So we did and we fought and the numbers changed.
One moment it was 40/88, the next 20/40.
We just had to hang on…
Charge!
Charge!
We rushed back to the Horde base while they were respawning, straggling to the battle.
End Result?
As I said to the Mage…
Told you I would make a difference!
We rocked the healing… Sure there were a few folk going pew-pew, but those heals were flying… for 52 minutes!
Final Reinforcement count?
We grabbed it by the short and curlies and won by a Gnome’s dick!
Gnomer and Out, Squidly and Stout!

“won by a Gnome’s dick”
You’re a tall guy!
Followed by… worst ever Av loss…
We get to Drek in record time, then everyone sits and has a picnic while the Horde retake all the towers behind us and D are trying to stave off the Horde…
“We can’t leave Drek, the Horde are coming back”
“yer, from the GY’s you let get capped and can’t be bothered taking back…”
Strategy instead of mindless zerging? Sounds like old AV.
Thank you Galv… More later…
[...] of a mage, I love reading Gnomer’s blog, but it’s always blocked. So let me just say his post today had me laughing quite a [...]
I had a similar AV a couple of weeks ago, but this one we lost with 21-0. But, almost every of the 40 players where nice to each other, and a lot even stayed a little longer to chat, and cheer about the good fight we had.
If the numbers are that close at the end, it was a good fight, for both sides.
I miss the 12 hour AV slug fests.
I felt sorry for the tank that invited me to a ToC run 5 min after joining AV…
“It will be over in 5 minutes” I said…
He was logging off as I left AV
I was just thinking this game sounds familiar and eagerly looked for the 16:0 final finish:)
I was on a alt called Juby and joined with around 15 minutes to go, thankfully I wasnt around for the whole 52? minutes.
NO WAY!
You were there?
It was an awesome battle, 52 minutes is nothing when you are having that much fun…
It was nail biting!
