The buff is smart, well it makes you and me smart.
What is dumb is the way it permanently overwrites Arcane Intellect.
The “permanently” is the problem here.
I hate the way these proximity based buffs (sorry Locks, Fel Intelligence making me dumb felt like a good place to start), or the temporary buffs overwrite other more permanent buffs.
Situation dependent
It’s not so bad if you are in a party or raid group where you can be sure to be near a living Lock (god forbid they stand in the green goo though).
However somewhere like the BGs where you are likely to be with that Lock for moments and those moments may only ever be in the starting zone, the proximity buff is just painful.
A pain in the Mage table
The Mage goes to the trouble of personally buffing me, or blows a reagent to buff the whole raid… Then Fel intelligence pops and overrides the Mage buff.
Great, now I have an ounce more Int, for as long as I am near the Lock.
When the gates open, I will have no Lock, no Fel Intelligence and no Mage to buff my Int again.
Please Blizzard, change these temporary buffs so they dont remove the other buff, just replace it temporarily!

Dumb question from a dumb paladin: do the pally auras overwrite stuff, or cause this problem? Granted, we’re not known for bringing INT to the table, but that’s a different issue…
8^)
Nothing I can think of, you do make our mana stream totem useless if you buff us with wisdom (talented from memory), which is sort of ok.. as long as there is a use for our healing stream.
Of course with our new fangled totem bars, you kind of set and forget, so once again in a BG, I would most likely forget to switch back to mana stream for a few more deaths
PS: You keep asking me doozies of questions.. they verge on theorycrafting… like knowing my spells and talents…
Luckily there are knowledgable and less /silly people around to fill the gaps…
Be warned, if you ask for my wisdom… well, I wouldn’t rely on it… have a back up plan… and byo your grain of salt… I don’t hand them out for nothing…
I completely agree. Frustrates me to no end every time I enter a BG.
Thank you Roz.. I love having two Rozs that support my wild theories… even if the other one does want to eat my babies
Seconded! Stupid locks! Ohwait we weren’t discussing locks, were we… ? Well stupid temporary buffs too! >:O
Nah seriously, my pvp druid totally agrees. She likes her mage buffs!
Stupid Locks…
I think Saresa has a secret Mage post coming up… either that or she is rolling a Mage… not likely…
But yeah she was after suggestions for Stupid Mage names… I offered Gnomeaggedon, but then realised she wasn’t after stupid Mage’s names

I am playing a priest in bgs now, trying to get to 80. Nothing irks me more than not getting the buffs from the other buff classes. Pallies seem to be the worst.
ANd losing the int from the darn felpuppy! Grr.
oh, I so wholeheartedly agree. its not just fel intelligence either. whenever I forget to switch from mana stream to healing stream and pally buffs me with wisdom – poof same for strength of earth and horn of winter. gone. when I’m on my marksmanship hunter, got forbid there’s a blood deathknight in the group, cause you bet their attack power buff will make my true shot aura go “poof”.
not stacking buffs is one thing but making them dissapear completely.
bad, bad design
Yeah…
I think the 1st time I noticed this was in MgT.. you get that zone buff… but you lose your Int…
Didn’t care too much then… now I do
Wow i think this is the first time that i hear that el Intelligence overwrites AI.
LOL =/
Bloody Warlocks….
Update: Almost 1 year later, I’m still hating them
