Be careful what you wish for,
You may not get what you want
Only a week or so ago, when patch 3.2.2 landed with a thud, it brought a few changes to the battlegrounds.
One of those changes I was uncertain about.
On the positive side I would always be entering numerically equal battlegrounds.
On the negative side, the price I would pay is having to wait longer for the BG queue to pop.
But wait, there’s more
Combined with these other two changes, I was left will time on my hands.
Bad news if both queues filled the moment before I joined… Hello 30 minute wait.
Bad news if I decide to put the kettle on or anything else that takes longer than 40 seconds. Hello re-queue.
Numerically Unbalanced
But, but something has changed. I think since my wonderful Saturday night (thanks again Blizz!).
I am getting into BGs that aren’t numerically balanced… or even full…
Of Alliance anyway!
This BG scoreboard shot was taken at the height of the Alliance population.
We started at 4 to 10
Long odds even for uber PvPers like myself (cough cough)
- Needless to say the BG was over long before the 25 minute timer.
- Needless to say we lost.
- I probably don’t even need to tell you that we lost 0/3.
Of course when 50% of your potential BG population is waiting to respawn at the GY, and that 50% actually comprises 100% of your forces, there isn’t much to stop the Horde grabbing and capping your flag.
Props to the Alliance (I’ve been throwing them around like sweets lately), we didn’t give up and no one left the BG till it was all over.
Of course the BG finished before we could have hearthed anyway…

Zupa says no to waiting around for battlegrounds to pop!
What am I gonna do with my time? Quest? not likely!
I’m not sure where I stand on the full teams bit. Sure it’s annoying getting slammed because you don’t have a full team, but it cuts both ways and evens out in the end I think.
This waiting around all the time though, is of teh suck.
Good thing my frost PvP spec happens to double as a super awesome AoE grinding spec
and I still wanna know how come we can’t kill Van anymore, and the allies totally haven’t been able to kill Drek either.
Oh well by my calcumalations I need another 8 winning AVs to hit level 80, with a bit of random mob killing thrown in while I’m waiting, and hopefully it wont be an issue then.
Oh heres another whinge im going to toss in here. What the hell am I meant to do with all these token? I have 100 of AV, WSG and AB tokens, about 50 EoTS tokens, 10 SoA tokens and 2 IoC tokens.
But IoC never pops! For great honor? For great QQ imo.
Ohh… as for your marks.. they are pretty worthless… you are only BG farming for honor or xp…
However… if you have 100 of each of AV, AB & WSG… that’s 3 BG mounts…
Or… you can hand in a collection of marks at the Battlemaster for additional honor (314 per hand-in from memory).. which might help towards the Northrend resilience gear.
None of these changes had taken place on my battlegroup as of Sunday afternoon, except the two queues one. I am sorely disappointed, because I am sick of AV starting 40 Alliance to 19 Horde, and WSG being 10A to 6H. A lot.
Really… I’ve had a “week” of the changes.. then along came Saturday night’s “short” maintenance… now it’s silly again…
Don’t know why I am whinging… it wasn’t that long ago this was normal.
I agree on balance… but on those nights when you can’t win a game to save yourself.. it’s all the harder when you are only fielding a 1/2 strength team.
I think Blizzard wasn’t ready to release the new 70-79 + 80 brackets, so Drek and Van are turned for level 80′s…
That said, put a bunch of Horde in Galv’s room and you wont take the bugger down either… experience has shown…
Don’t the Horde realize they are a taint on the face of Azeroth…
I’ve decided now is a good time to level my professions while I wait… it’s occurred to me that my fishing (level 4) and cooking (not much higher) wont get me far with the Dalaran dailies… which will increase my Kirin’Tor rep… so might as well get onto that now.
As for herbalism… I can’t pick a herb in Arathi Highlands right now, let alone Outland… and I am knocking on Artha’s door… better work on that too.
I noticed that it had gone back to not-full-queues too, when I went into my first BG since deciding to become full-time holy.
We swept AB 1600/0 in 6 minutes. Two HAWT achievements that are now meaningless for Myrhani, since there were only like four alliance in there.
But on the flip side, you’re absolutely right… since I went into BGs as holy, not one person has told me that I suck and lots and lots and lots of people have told me that they love me. I got to be the top healer in several ABs and an EotS, and was second in AV (more healers seem to congregate there huh?) and it feels good to not be halfway down the list getting 97 honor and having died twelve times. I love being the one getting 347 honor and only dying twice like I was in ret. Oh, and the people loving me and rushing across the BG to save my very holy bum is a really nice feeling.
Why didn’t I start healing sooner?
Damn… I wish I was on your 1600/0 team… Ohh well.. I can pray that I get one of those groups
I have not ethics, I’ll be happy with the unfair advantage…

I think they might be going with “enough people in queue” not “enough people who accept and pop”. Behavior in all battlegrounds seems about the same as it was before.
seems to be the same… but I think there is one difference.
it used to be (in WSG for example) once both sides had 5/10 the BG would begin.
Now it seems like once one side has a full group the battle will begin…
