Just as when I was trying to avoid a wipe the other night in HToC, and those stupid Shaman wolves kept the battle going until my invisibily faded and I was discovered by the Black Knight…
I’m back, but not out of combat just yet.
Mum has gone, but my family are firmly engaged in “wipe recovery”, cleaning up the mess that has been left behind (and let me assure you, it is quite a mess).
Meanwhile I am itching to return to posting but have struck two issues.
1. I’m feeling a little OOM. Both in the physical sense and in the post inspiration sense.
I will recover from both of these things pretty quickly I’m sure.
2) I returned to work today to discover my whole team has moved to a newly refurbished floor.
Unfortunately my desk is in a very public position, it could only be more public if I was in the tea room.
So I am feeling like an OOM Mage that can’t leave combat to drink (with both invisiblity and evocation on cooldown).
I will keep posting as time allows, I just expect the images will be few and far between (Yay! I hear some of you say…).
On the WoW Front
Gnomeaggedon has been languishing next to a Dalaran mailbox waiting for the chance to strut his fireworks for 3 odd weeks now.
One of my mates had a LAN to celebrate his 40th this past weekend an my wife suggested I go… She thought I needed a bit more of my mates company and a bit less of family cleaning politics.
I got the chance to catch up with TreeHuggerDave for a few instances, including, shock-horror, a run of Occulus… finally… I discovered later in the weekend that my friends weren’t avoiding taking me through Heroic Occulus, they were just avoiding Occulus in general. Maybe something has changed recently, but I found it a good fun instance.
I also got a couple of runs through ToC both in normal (practice run) and Heroic.
Observations…
Heroic can be a pig!
Enough of the jousting already!
Nice loot, shame none of us could use ANY of it!
It really struck me that while it is relatively quick, it’s not the sort of instance I am going to rush to repeat… I’d rather do Gnomeragan 3 times in a day that ToC 3 times in a week.
T7 complete
Finally, better late than never, I have a complete set of T7. Not that I am using most of it, but I finally picked up the helm off KT the other night.
The words out of my mouth to my mates in the room when it dropped:
If I don’t win the roll on this f’n helm this time, Gnomeaggedon gets sharded… No, not his gear, him.
“You discover Gnomes disenchant into Goblins”
Will appear on your screen if I don’t win this roll…
The other Mage in the party rolled 63… I rolled 65…
So Gnomeaggedon is safe… For now…
Squidly’s challenge
Squidly on the other hand has been seeing a bit of action.
One thing about an Alt, is you cane play in small slices of time.
A quest here…
A half dozen mobs there…
Maybe even an instance or two… Especially if boosted.
The Squid’s looking pretty good at level 36. I am definitely loving the healing for a change of pace, even fighting off other healers so I don’t have to DPS (OK, so I can rarely resist and the odd lightning bolt and flame shock has been seen to leave my healing hands).
I have now run DM, Gnomer, BFD and SM several times. I have only managed to run DM and SM (GY and Lib) unboosted… and I loved it!
I have decided boosting is a last resort. Apart from the fact it is quite boring, loot this, loot that… I have had more deaths on a boosted run than on an appropriate level run. The booster gets too far ahead, stray mob comes in and it’s all over.
THD was practicing his macro writing skills on one SM run and kept leaving me to die just so he could test his new Rez macro…
The 3 appropriate level runs were awesome.
Only lost one party member in DM… Due to LoS… His fault, but the 2 other tanks stepped in to fix that. I even got complimented after… Not bad for my 1st healing run in 3 years…
SM was faultless until a wipe in the library… But then there was no tank, just DPS, with this DPS playing healer for the run, and only occurred because everyone ran off behind pillars picking their own targets… Forget healing one tank target, try healing 4 dps tanking targets… Didn’t happen again…
Anyway, I have a screenshot folder filled with screenies for you all, but I probably won’t be sharing them.
Anyway, until the inspiration strikes (and the time appears) again…
Gnomer and Out!
PS: thanks again for all your kind words, thoughts and prayers.
Mum is with Dad again both physically and spiritually and all is good.
My family have been great, particulary Odin who was running around the chapel and jumping in my arms during the eulogy.
Just one weird moment as Mum was lowered into her grave and Odin got a bit upset, he was happy she was going to grow grass, but dropping in the hole wasn’t right. For once in his life Odin didn’t want to throw sand. All was good though and he couldn’t wait to get to Nanny’s last party.

It’s SO good to hear from you again Gnome! Now if your posts will be more rare, we’ll be able to enjoy them so much more. It’s like the difference between exclusive handmade chocolate and bulk candy. Your little pearls of humour and insight deserve to be digested a bit longer.
I’m glad you finally got that head! But are you sure you’ll not grind TOC for the healm that drops there. It’s pretty nice tbh. It has dropped for me twice and once I picked it up since noone wanted it anyway. I’m trying to make up my mind if I should switch my T 8.5 healm for that one or not (can still keep the T8 bonus). (I guess I should consult Rawr, I’m just a bit lazy atm.)
After all ToC is rather quick, which I think would suit you fine…
I like the thought of being an exclusive handmade chocolate Gnome…
I have been back to ToC, on the one and only opportunity so far.. my mates dragged me in, and I guess it is now the best way to gear up…
I dare say all our Naxx runs in future will be preceded with a quick ToC.
No helm yet, but got some new boots…
Now you can grind heroics and get the gawdawful T8.5 helm and chest pieces. Ugly…
Something has changed with Occulus, it now scales off gear like the vehicles in Ulduar, making it quite a bit easier this time around.
Good call on not boosting your healer! I’m refusing to have mine boosted so it forces me to learn to play the class. It’s a bit different staring at green bars instead of red ones.
Hope to hear from you again soon!
lol… I don’t gear for ugly… its got to match my beautiful eyes
Which is of course why my helm is never displayed…
Damn shame about the Occulus change.. I just thought I was 1337!
Yeah still prefering to hold out for right level toons… luckily I am not alone in that desire… and being a healer I am being added to friends lists – I just wish they would only play once a week too
welcome back, Gnomer, even if we do have to deal with no screenshots from your adventures.
if you’re looking for ideas for a story, how about commenting on the [POSSIBLE SPOILERS ALERT] rumor that the next expansion might have a “gnomes retaking gnomeregan” instance?
done… and thanks for the inspiration…
PS — i meant to add a *wink* at the end of my “screenshots” comment above.
I know you love them… maybe I will just bundle up the 30g of screenies and mail it to you
welcome back gnomer.
ty.. it’s a pleasure to be back… especially when I am likened to a lawn mower drawstring…
Welcome Back Gnomer, now I can get back to what I do best…Killing Gnomes.
Ohh admit it already… you already love us… I bet you skip every 2nd one in the battleground these days…
Actually, I bet you never stopped killing them… wouldn’t blame you of course…
/trade
*hands Gnomer Runic Mana Potion*
I think I owe you for one kidnapped Gnome…
Hope things start to get better for ya soon. We’re all thinking bout ya. Oh and I’m pretty sure there’s an openining in Ashes of Tirisfal for a Goblingeddon!
Fikkle
For the Gnomer
*swaps Runic Mana Potion for bottle of Irish Whiskey*
/em Ahhhhh that’s better…
Of course when Goblingeddon appeared, it would really be Gnomeaggedon in disguise… then the fireworks would start… right under Thrall’s throne!
Things get better every day…
Welcome back, Gnomey! The Mighty Jingles says he’s even willing to overlook the fact that you’re a lowly mage, and wishes you well.
And gratz on the new hat!
Welcome back Gnomer! Glad to hear you’re doing well. /hug
/wave
I’ve been away from both writing and reading, so I’m a bit belated in my comment. I’m truly sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like the transition is going well (for as well as something like this could be though), my best to your family.
Glad to see you back!
