You know how I’ve started the last couple of Gnome Weekend posts with something along the lines of:
It didn’t start well and I had the overwhelming feeling it wasn’t going to be a good night…
Then follow up a couple of paragraphs later with:
… then it all came together and it was a great night
Well this isn’t one of those posts.
The night started feeling average, and nothing stopped the slippery slide into the nightmare.
If we were a guild you would call it a guild breaker… we aren’t a guild, but it was still a group breaker
.
Wipefest
It was wipe followed by wipe followed by fail.
The scoreboard will still show the boss kills, but there was no elegance, we did the job with the finesse of screwing a model plane together with a sledge hammer.
Yeah, I know that doesn’t make any sense, but then neither did the fail raid.
Venting
What was worse was the nasty undercurrent flowing through Vent. We aren’t children, so there are no holds barred in Vent, but usually you wouldn’t invite your grand mother to listen in, mum yes, grand mother no.
On Friday I would have had neither my Mum nor even my obnoxious brother in Vent… He probably would have cringed at some of the stuff that was said.
The worst part being that a lot of it was directed at the one group member utilizing mute and coming from the one person on mute.
It’s like when that nutter on the street continues hurling abuse at the long departed opponent because they have an audience now, the greater the audience the greater the abuse.
I had to log early as there were preparations to be made the next day for Odin’s birthday. I was still on vent as I prep’d Gnome for this coming Friday when I heard a snide remark about me logging onto my AH Alt for the next hour.
Farewell BigBird
It left me with the intention of not logging on again for our Friday adventures but I was convinced to stick it out by a mate at Odin’s birthday.
Come Monday I discovered I wasn’t the only one effected, with Mr. Tree handing in his group resignation.
I felt sorry for Mr. Tree right from the beginning of the night. He’s been getting tired of Tree form and with our influx of healers and lack of ranged DPS he has recently been playing BigBird form.
Unfortunately Mr. Offspec has chosen this moment to bring back his Druid alt, in bird form.
So apart from the whole group missing out on 2nd best DPS and all the shaman utility including heroism, Mr. BigBird now has loot competition right at the time he is trying to gear up and give the group a chance.
Anyway, farewell Mr. Tree, you will be missed. I hope you return, and until then, remember there is a young Shaman that is
LF1M level 80 to boost me through Deadmines
Just don’t tell Larisa.
Sharing the Squid Stories
Speaking of the youngling shaman, there isn’t much huge news to share.
Level 14
He’s completed 50 quests.
Explored Azuremyst Isle
Become a Pro Journeyman
Completed his fire totem quest and right now at level 13.5, he feels normal.
NORMAL!!
I had forgotten that feeling.
The feeling that comes when your rested XP bonus runs out. I always got a start when I saw that message…
- What, I wasn’t normal before?
- What, I am no longer a Gnome Mage or Draenii Shaman, I am just a middle aged office worker?
Ahh well, I guess on a bell curve most of us are normal… I can live with that.
I just wonder whether when Jong logs on whether he gets the message:
You are AWESOME!
I am Awesome!
Ohhh speaking of awesome, there was one bright moment in Gnomeaggedon’s (and therefore my) week.
Damage control hunh!
How cool is that?
My 3 foot Gnome is the master of damage…
If only I felt like I deserved it…
You see I think I somehow cheated the system. I’m waiting for the ban hammer to fall.
What battleground did I earn this honor on you ask?
Which of AV, WSG, AB, EotS, SotA or WG did I do so much damage?
The answer is, none of the above…
There I was merrily doing my Argent Tournament dailies, slaughtering commanders, lieutenants and misc brittle undead when the achievement popped.
I honestly don’t think that Blizzard intended battlefield to include the Argent Tournament battlefield. Running a lance up the back of an NPC doesn’t quote seem to fit the definition of the achievement.
Oh well, I look forward to my ban, and present the achievement screenshot here for the day it is removed.
I’m OK! or getting ready to lumberjack
Finally, people have been commenting on my Mum’s health and one of the things that has been said frequently is that I shoudn’t worry and things happen for a reason (I happen to be a great believer in this, and no matter how much of my life I wasted, I wouldn’t do it again differently.. if I did I wouldn’t have what I have now, and I wont give that up for anything!)…
Well, strange coinicence time…
A week ago I wrote about Monty Python references in the game…
This week I got a couple of reminders of that post…
Have shirt… now all I need is the axe… ohh ho!
If Gnomeaggedon could hold an Axe, I would be posting you Gnomeaggedon the Lumberjack screenshots (why can’t I hold the axe? I can accept I am not proficient in it, but surely I can pose with it for happy snaps?)
So I guess this just proves that…
I’m a Lumberjack and I’m OK!
Gnomer and Out!

“I’m a Lumberjack and I’m OK!” good to hear.
The reason I have decided to skip the Friday sessions is that I got involved and was a culpable as the rest. I said stuff I shouldn’ve. I have the ability to be argumentative and I’m trying not to be.
Instead of standing up and just saying ‘that’s bad form…leave it out’ I started with taunts back. none of which i’m proud of.
Wow has lost its glitter for me of late….
the whole mute debacle made play hard, but it was workable. somewhat comical when Mr Offspec asks others to tell the tank to move the mob around…then explains the tank has him on mute…
It got far worse than usual. it was extremely personal and toxic by the end of the night. reminded me of keg parties where mates would end up throwing punches….sure next day everyone has a headache and tries and pretend things are ok…..reality is things are rarely the same….
So the fact i lost my cool when I was dead stone sober made me decide its time for my health and my childrens’ well being to avoid the aggro in my life….
The up side is I have picked up Call of Duty World at War last night….the online play is insane…fresh out of the box its a total wipe fest…but its fun fun fun…this from a pvp phobe….best thing is a battle is done in 10 minutes…..you need to do something..thats ok…..when the battle finishes go do it and come back at your leisure
Plus ‘i hate Illinois Nazi’s’ and there is nothing better than running up guns blazing and ending up slitting there throats in melee
