I spoke a bit the other day about Envy, specifically Achievement Envy. While I was writing it I started thinking about the other 6 deadly sins, and how they played out in WoW.
Lust
Lust in WoW?
Well yes and it manifests itself in a few different ways. I’m sure we all remember the bunny ears from the Easter event… Playboy anyone?
What about the difference in gear. Man Plate = full body defense, GirlPlate = cheerleader skirts.
What about the standard joke that the only people that roll female nightelves are teenage boys?
What about all the stories you hear about females preferring not to speak on vent for fear of revealing their gender and opening the door to unwelcome advances?
Gluttony
Free Mage food anyone? Ok, I guess that isn’t really the gluttony I am thinking of…
What about the need to stuff our selves to bursting and exhaustion on more and more content.
- Just one more quest
- Just one more raid
- Just one more honor kill
Greed
Greed appears in so many forms in WoW.
Gold greed, and the desire to fudge average sale values to increase profits.
Loot greed (or not Need before Greed). Taking those items for just one more drop, no matter what the impact on others.
Sloth
Morons and Slackers. Boost me so I don’t have to do the work.
Grind for me so I can benefit from your time.
Gems… they have gems now? Can you lend me a few, I will give them back as soon as I am finished with them… I promise…
Wrath
- Minus DKP anyone?
- Ever been called a noob by some angry player?
- Ever lost your patience, thrown your keyboard across the room?
Envy
I covered this in a lighthearted kind of way the other day, but envy has a darker side and has lead to guild explosions and loss of friends.
Pride
Are you showing off your mammoth, your T8.5 outside the IF mailbox?
Are you so proud that you won’t take a newbie on a run because it might spoil your flawless instance record?
Gnomer and Out!

I rolled a female night elf and I am most certainly not a teenage boy.
But you wouldn’t know that from how often she ended up naked and dancing on tables. =)
lol… well I dare say that’s a different sort of fantasy… but umm… whatever floats your boat…
I’m certainly not one of those teenage boys who end up rolling Night Elf females. What? Leyola, you say? That’s true, but 23 doesn’t really count as a teenager, doesn’t it? I mean, I may act like one once in a while, but that wouldn’t mean…
*continues rambling*
Hmmmmm….
My cat once threw my keyboard across the room.
She sprinted in from the garden as if the Hound of the Baskervilles was on her tail, and ran straight into my keyboard cable, pulling the keyboard off my lap and also out of the usb socket, before depositing it against the wall, some 9 feet away.
Cooking fat!!
Ohhh.. sounds like you cat was running from a wipe… but throwing the keyboard is a bit extreme of her…
i am definitely guilty of a few of these, but i won’t say which ones. : P
Giving you the benefit of the doubt.. I will put you down for the whole set…
Pride
Yes ok I confess. I have opened my mammoth by the mailbox. Yeah I guess I hold a little pride in working hard to get it.
Greed
I do love obtaining gold but not at the expense of others and absolutely share alot of stuff with guildies.
Hmmm I guess those are my deadly sins. I see the others in many folks but not so much in our guild. People are usually very kind and generous with their time.
Constantly showing the meter (perhaps a pride thing) makes me crazy.
Showing the meter is a whole different sin…
AH I bring new meaning to these sins. All my toons are going to WoW Hell I’m sure.
lol
Oh it’ll be fun! I’m sure Arthas will defrost and lighten up while we’re down there at least…. right?
