One of many envies, but one I have felt recently and, as is often the case with envy, for no good reason.
Achievement Envy
My recent envy attack was based on Larisa’s comment. Yes I am envious of Larisa, in more ways than one. But, this is about achievements, in the1st instance, so let’s start there.
I am an achievement addict, and I need help.
If I am honest with myself, when I read/hear about someone else picking up an achievement, I shrivel a little inside.
Tiddlywinks makes me /cry.
I want it all!
I try to stay sane and remember that I don’t have the time to devote to the task, but it is still eating away quietly inside…
There are other envies.
Pet envy
Prelimar spurred this post. All the talk about the scorchling made me realize I had to have it. No matter how hard, no matter the RNG, I want it. I will cope if I don’t get it, but I will /cry a little inside when it doesn’t drop. Or worse, it drops and I don’t win the roll.
No, I don’t have one yet, and doubt I will get one… I have lots of 3g cloaks… but that’s about it.
Mount envy
Did you see my post about my bronze drake? Mount envy!
I wanted a Netherwing Mount, but that was never going to happen. Run a 30 minute instance to get one? Hell yeah!
Every time I ran it, someone else would win it, and I just /cried
Gear envy
iLevel what?
200 not cool?
I want more. Luckily Blizz is delivering via emblems. I know some people out there are pissed, but this isnt about you, it’s about me. I need to feed my envy
Gold envy
Greedy Goblin may think he is doing the community a favor by disclosing his secrets, but in reality he is just fueling greed…
Envy…
I am happy with my relatively meager stack of gold, but I would never speak of the ever diminishing number. No, then the M&S would be after me.
Playtime envy
Oh how I envy the people that can choose when they play and how long they play. Whether they have no other major real world obligations, are able to build a steady game filled schedule, or have an accepting (or better yet WoW playing) partner, I envy them.
Heroic Envy
I /cry a little when I log on and ask who is up for the daily, only to find everyone has already done it and one or two others. How I envy those that have dome Oculus, at least once and don’t have to sit in LFG for hours praying that 4 other miserable souls will go for a run.
Raid Envy
- Done them all? Not me!
- In a raiding guild doing 3 nights a week? Not me!
- Got a secure spot and not praying for no-shows? Not me!
How I envy you!
I look at guild app requirements and envy those that can meet the minimum raiding requirements. I envy them knowing that by meeting those requirements there is a good shot at Ulduar, at EoE, at OS+3. Yes, I envy you!
Quest Envy
Daily quests, egg hatching, mammoth cut scene chain quests. I envy you all. I look at my quest achievements and wonder how I will ever complete all the quests required. I’m not worried about finding the last quests, I’m worries about finding the time to complete any of them.
It’s my lot.
I know it’s my lot to only play casually, to only see portions of the content, and I know I have and will continue to see more than many other casual players.
I know I am lucky to have such a fantastic wife, to have the awesome experience of raising a great son. I wouldn’t give up either for all the achievements, quests, gear etc in the game.
But that doesn’t stop me being struck by the odd case of envy, and some days I’m not just struck, I’m king hit!
How about you?

“but this isnt about you, it’s about me.”
now you’re doing it right
You see, I pay attention to my Master Jong…
One day I will be great like you…
Then it will be about ME not YOU…
Until then, of course, it’s all about you 1st, then me 2nd…
Strange timing. During work I was thinking about blog envy, how I’m jealous that Larisa’s blog seems so much better and popular. Maybe I just have a vast readership that rarely posts.
My envy in WoW used to be people with good weapons. For months I was still using a heroic axe, all the way into Ulduar, losing one upgrade after another. Finally I got a decent Naxx axe and now my envy is gone. I’ll have to find a new one, I’m thinking belts, since my current one is pretty bad. A person’s gotta have envy or else they might start feeling good and then where would we all be?
Blog envy can be a major disincentve to blog… so as Larisa says, revel in the peace and quiet… it may not last, and even if it does, know that we care…
lol, we were just talking about a 90 million lotto draw that’s happening tonight… if everyone won lotto, there would be no one out there to service our needs.
So in an effort to maintain the economic status quo, I am prepared to sacrifice my bank balance and accept the 90 mill…
of course, the same goes for WoW… If it’s going to be sharded, then pass it on to me… actually, just give it all to me, then next week you can have your bits…
Sometimes I get raid envy, pet envy, mount envy, and title envy.
There, I said it.
@Klep – I get blog envy sometimes too…. not just about having less visitors… but also envious of those that have more time to blog (how do they do it?) and those that can blog while at work (how do they do it?!).
That was very brave of yourself Syrana… the 1st step is admitting the problem.. the 2nd is solving it… preferably by taking down those you are envious off, and taking the loot…
FYI, I blog on the train, then finish it up at work…
I can often write 2 or 3 posts on the trip in… Yay for iPhone!
Pie envy.
nuff said.
I’m envious… where’s my Pie?
Everyone has Pie envy. Even the cake.
take heart, o green-haired one! i just learned today that you don’t have to rely on the RNG when you take down Ahune to get the scorchling pet! apparently, you can also buy one from the festival vendors for a certain amount of blossom tokens. i have no idea how many that is, but it’s an option!
the other thing i must mention is that the drop rate for the scorchling is pretty high. i’ve run Ahune with my guildies in groups of five (rotating out people as they got their pets) about 15-20 times, and i’ve seen the pet drop easily 6-10 times.
I went looking to buy one (and have now blown those flowers), but all I could find was the sparkling one seen in my earlier post… I thought it was te little fiery one… but it looks more like an Arcane spark…
As you will see tomorrow, I am having no joy with the Scorchling… must have run it 10+ times, and nothing but crappy cloaks…
I will probably log on Friday to discover all my mates have one…
hmm, i thought they were both the same thing. to be honest, i haven’t actually compared the two in-game, side-by-side. but that’s what i heard from a guildy, and some wowwiki-searching seemed to bear it out.
as for the drop rate, our guild was getting TONS of those cloaks (hooray for them being vendor-ready!), but i saw around 6-10 of those scorchlings drop last week. maybe we were just insanely lucky? can’t be… keep trying if you can. i wish you luck!
The vendor sells the Spirit of Summer, which is a little pink wisp. Sort of lame.
The Scorchling drops in the Ice Chest from Ahune. It does drop on both normal and heroic modes.
You can run Ahune 6 times with the same 5 people, once on heroic (no quest needed, just melt the ice stone) and then reset to normal for 5 more runs.
I think the game is created in a way that you’re bound to be a little bit envious. It’s one of the driving forces, the motivators in the game. “Working as intended”, as the devs would say. And no matter how much you do or progress, there will always be new things around to envy… I bet the guy with +5k achievement points still have things that he desires that his friends have. And I bet there are others reading your blog that are envious about your experiences. I for one, you seem to have such a blast with your rl friends… I don’t have friends the way you have, not at all. So who’s to be envied?
@Klepsacovic: be patient. Just be patient. You have an awesome blog with a ton of interesting thoughts. People will find you eventually and start to comment more than they do. It takes a lot of time though. I blogged for a long time without having much of attention at all… A couple of guildies, Gnomeaggedon, Gevlon (yep!), Aurik, a commenter called Eishen… that was about the all readers I had for months.
I’m still not in the Big Leage mind you, so I’m a little bit surprised you take me as an example. Matticus has 6 times as many subscribers as I have, Gevlon 4. Do I care? Nope, and that’s actually an honest answer, not just soemthing I say because it sounds nice.
I don’t owe anyone anything. I don’t feel restricted in my writings, I don’t fear to lose readers. I’m totally free and I enjoy that immensly. You should too! there are advantages about being smallish and unknown too. Who knows, you may even be a bit envied…
As always you re wise in your words…. the achievements really just made it possible for more people to gain those things they envied… other people’s achievements.
It’s also handy being a Gnome.. you can duck blog envy… or trouble at least…
Totally know what you mean, I just don’t have the time to dedicate to playing like some do (on my own with 2 kids under 4!), so raiding and so much else is just not possible for me.
Totally get jealous of my guildies sometimes who have the time to be able to do all these things, but then I know at least a couple who wish it was the other way around.
The grass is (almost) always greener on the other side it seems…
The grass, or the hair, is always greener… just depends how it got green in the 1st place
B-b-but I don’t wanna take anyone out! D:
Solution: Find a new job that allows me time to fiddle with my random thoughts during the day.
Not likely to happen anytime soon… but a solution nonetheless.
Mmmm you sure you are a Lock… a Lock that doesn’t want to take people out?
This solution is much better than alternative methods for finding extra time…
Well, I can’t very well tell you my plans for taking people out.. but why take them out when I could use them as instruments to reach my goal of world domination?
lol, spoken like a try Lock!
