I may be vain, but I think I rock!
Especially when I’m the last Gnome standing…
To be honest, it’s not the way I normally think of myself. I tend to focus more on the things I do wrong, rather than remembering the things I get right.
But I had one of those nights the other night that highlighted the things I got right, the biggest of them being staying alive… Most of the time…
I jumped online to discover the daily was Heroic Nexus.
The Nexis is one of the few instances I have done multiple times on normal, yet not at all on Heroic… And I don’t like the place on normal. Still, I wanted the heroic achievement, and I am desperate for emblems.

I joined LFG for Nexus and CoT, I want that drake now, I feel the pressure. I did a couple of dailies, cooking and fishing. Filled my bag full of grays and scored a couple of fishing skill ups.

I was getting tired of waiting, but as I was working in the background, I wasn’t going anywhere. On top of that I had such a warm welcome by my GL when I logged on, that I felt good.

BTW, what’s the story with fishing in that Dalaran fountain? My cast doesn’t land in a fishable area 2/3 times…
I found this Gnome just “floating” around too… I guess that’s a different way to fish… wonder if he’s catching anything?
HoS hate Zone
Anyway, I got a random whisper asking if I would come DPS in Heroic HoS, 2 bosses left. I just knew one of those would be that hated AoE fight, but why not. I’m doing nothing, and I want an item of the last boss, maybe it’s my lucky night.
Sure enough, I am summoned to find everyone running back to HoS, the corpse of the player that I am replacing still fresh on the floor of the AoE room.
We give it a go. We wipe. Shite happens, here more than elsewhere.
On the way back I say,
np folks, always happens, we will get it this time.
The tank says:
Keep the Mage alive, he is THE DPS.
The healer replies:
I went down before the Mage.
I replied:
Keep the heals up, then worry about me.
Attempt 2 went much better… Well kind of I was distantly aware of my group members icons going gray one-by-one. I just kept it up.
Blizzard, move, Frost Nova, move, Blizzard, move, Frost Nova… Rinse and repeat…
Finally the remaining mobs turn their full attention to me… I know it’s over, but I keep on giving it all I’ve got until my own screen goes gray… or was that red?
I think to myself… Damn, that must have been close… What the hell was everyone else doing… Apart from dying… Then I see the party chat…
Did we get that?
Yeah, I think so, quick get back in there!
It must have been close, I must have just held out long enough…
I felt good!
The last boss went down pretty easily. I was severely threat capped, so it was a struggle, but he went down. I definitely was the DPS for the run. It’s not often I do 44% of the damage… Consistently…
What we doing?
Back in LFG… Invite comes in. I accept.
I ask:
What we doing
…
No response…. hate that. Anyway, it was for Nexus, so here we go.
Loose Some, Win Some…
I screwed up early on, a couple of quick and silly deaths from AoE aggro. One of these just before the “bonus boss”. I felt stupid. I hate Nexus as it is, and this isn’t a good start.
From then on though it was all good.
Anomalus… Down. Focused on chaos portal guys and took boss down easy enough.
Why all the gray bars?
It was the death gripping (Gravity Well), mirror imaging (Clone) Grand Magus Telestra that made me smile.
At the end of the 1st clone phase there were only 3 of us left. Luckily the other two were heals and tank. Still, I didn’t feel all that confident.
Under these circumstances, there’s only one thing to do…
Clear the head, buckle down and get the job done.
That’s what happened. Frost warded, focused fired each of the clones down, slowly but surely. Boss appears, go sick. Clones appear, focused heavy DPS.
Before I knew it, it was all over, and we were victorious!
I was so stoked!
I played smart and the boss went down!
Spike me if you can!
Ormorok the Tree-Shaper was a cack, just cause I refused to go in close… no I wanted the challenge of dodging the Crystal Spikes… They look great as the erupt a foot or two away from my short (but sexy) Gnome body.
Cold, what cold?
Keristrasza was funny too. I am as tired of jumping Gnomes as the next guy, so I decided to keep my feet planted and DPS. Well, actually, not all that planted. Screw the Intense Cold. It was like I was PvPing, I was running here, running there. I’d get Crystal Chains, I’d blink and start it all over.

As the boss went down I noticed in party chat:
Jump folks, jump
Then just below it:
ok, don’t jump then

I had a fun night, especially as I really felt I contributed. I made a difference. In at least two fights I was the difference between victory and wipe (not to take anything away from tank or heals).

So, in summary…
I rock!
and maybe The nexus isn’t that bad after all… gave me a laugh just when I needed one…
Ohh and just in case you haven’t’ seen it yet…
Next time you wipe, and you are looking for the reason, use this tool… it will give you the reason way quicker than you can work it out… The power of computer based analysis never ceases to amaze me!
Remember, get your Blogday gifts to me TODAY… (but I will give you until Sunday 21st… 2 days in total!)

“I may be vain, but I think I rock!”
You’re doing it wrong. You cannot be apologetic and you cannot be thinking. and “I rock” is too modest.
I am but a tadpole before the might and wisdom of Jong the Almighty…
To all others I am but a God!
Nexxus is easy peasy lemon squeasy. Fiak the disc priest loves to play the how much dps can I do and still keep the pally tank up game.
It’s quite fun, until you hear Arthas’ voice saying You will Die…several times in a fight.
Yes, that’s my (I think) 35% health warning. Luckily, as a pally tank I has my own get out of jail free cards.
Too bad you are gnomey on the ally side…and on some other goofy server. We’d take you through all the fun places and keep you alive…mostly!
I never found nexus hard… just, I don’t know… silly… annoying…
Heroic was definitely more fun than normal.
It is a shame I don’t have a toon over with you guys… well, I think I did, but then you moved again… In reality DK’s aren’t my cup of soup… and with:
a) My limited play time… and
b) The time zone difference
It just wouldn’t happen. It was great to catch up with Sy and a couple of others once or twice, just to play out the RP Gnome kidnap thing… but that really happened on the blog, not the server.
Of course the offer stands the other way around… get yourself to Aman’Thul… drink lots of your favorite caffeine drink… play from AEST (+10) 8.30pm – 3am on a Friday night, as we are the guys for you… Alliance though…
My mates would help me out… just with my limited time, they are usually doing something serious with the guild on the rare occasions I get online outside of our regular Friday night run. Only 4 Heroics left to do though before I have collected the set…. just don’t know if anyone will ever run Occulus…
