Every now and then I provide myself with Gnomish Inspiration, or is that GnomInspiration…
Nearly always through a flippant comment, more often than not in reply to a comment on one of my own posts.
So I had an idea for a new instance, or rather new style of instance.
The Fight for Gnomeregan.
My initial inspiration is for Gnomeregan revisited, or maybe:
The Fight for Gnomeregan.
It will be another Caverns of Time instance, where you travel back to Gnomeregan, just as the Troggs break through, and it’s up to you to repel them, or at the very least ensure that Gnomeregan is uninhabitable by setting off the radiation bomb at the request of Mekgineer Thermaplugg.
You will of course be “skinned” as Gnomes… no Humans, Elves, Draenei (maybe Dwarves… but Gnomes are best).
OK, nothing really special so far… so how about…
Only the Alliance get to be Gnomes!
Yep, this is a strictly Alliance only Instance.
Storming Gnomeregan!
Of course if you are Horde you get to run a slightly different version of the instance:
Storming Gnomeregan!
That’s right, you are not Gnomes… you are Troggs, the Troggs that are overrunning Gnomeregan.
You objective is to secure Gnomeregan before you are either:
- Repelled, or
- The Gnomes press the self destruct button making Gnomeregan uninhabitable.
Now, let’s throw in one more twist…
Gnomo e Troggo…
You may also enter this instance via the Battlemaster!
Yep, this can also be a new battleground.
Gnomes v. Troggs…
Gnomo e Troggo…
Same objective in mind, but now you are not just leading/fighting the opposing NPCs, but are also dealing with Player Characters.
What an awesome mix of:
- Zerging NPCs and crafty PCs
- Corridor combat and Open space combat
Features
- In any mode you get XP and Rep, in the PvP mode you also receive Honor and marks.
- You can gain power ups by controlling binary punch card machines
- The alarm-bots will give the alliance warning of the approaching Horde or Alliance (but who knows whether they are NPCs or PCs?)
- Both sides can gain access and use land mines
- If you win, you gain control of the Clean Room and the vendors that go with it… which is the only way to redeem your Gnomeregan marks.
Ideally this can be run with multiple size groups, 5 man, 10 man, 25 man and even 40 man.
Don’t dream of 24 hour long Alterac Valley battles, dream of 3 day Gnomeregan struggles.
More Instances?
How about:
- Deadmines: Pirates vs. Humans
- Wailing Caverns: The Fanglords fight back!
- Stormwind Stockade: The Prison Revolt!
- Shadowfang Keep: Wogen’s Revenge
- Ragefire Chasm: Taking Orgrimmar from below
What do you think?
What you got and how would it play out?
Gnomer and Out!

That sounds awesome. Maybe it could be what AV used to be: awesome.
yeah. If bliz could work out an appropriate reward system, where you get rewarded even if you can only join in for 1 hour in a 48 hour battleground, it would be awesome.
Sounds like a great concept. Would It be for level capped players? Or, would the instances be for the levels that are currently appropriate?
My biggest question, would I have to level a gnome mage to experience the ally version? The thought of having four fingers creeps me out.
It would be great if it could handle all the level caps, but I would cope if it was only 80…
No need to level a Gnome… Any Ally would do, afterall you would be transformed into a 4 fingered champion when zoning in.
There is a tiny vain part of me that doesn’t want to be a fire-slinging trogg… but that’s the same part that asks if I look fat as a human. ~_^
I think this is an awesome idea. Have multiple options for it, like you said, for the PvPers and the PvEers and us crossovers who do a little of everything and nothing. ^_^
Come now Sprink…. WoLK has gotten us used to different skins on our toons… although being a Trogg for several hours on end would be a bit on the nose
[...] Gnomeaggedon has serious issues. [...]
A neat way to do this might be like what I heard Blizz was doing with heroics for WotLK (but ended up not doing apparently) – and keep normal instances as they are, but make heroic versions that take place in a different time frame – as you said, the invasion of Gnomeregan, or perhaps an invasion of Org through RFC.
Ahhh such a shame they didn’t go ahead… I didn’t even know they were considering it…
