We failed to clear the Arachnid Quarter in the required 20 minutes last week, but only by a bee’s private part (or maybe that’s a spider’s private part under the circumstances).
It was close, and maybe if we had been just a little bit more settled, or maybe all of us on Vent, we would have done it.
What really struck me though, was the way that knowing there was a timer and an achievement at the end of that same timer, really gelled the raid into fast action.
Beating the AFK timer
I can be a bit of an afker at times, but only when the party is fritzing about.
The timed runs really encourage that the party keeps moving. I just wish there was more of it.
Not in the way of Violet Hold.
The waiting between phases when you are nailing it are as painful as they are welcome when little things go wrong.
No I think every instance should have a timed achievement. What’s more I think their should be multiples of them. 30 min, 25 min, 20 min, 15 min.
Sure you might knock one over, but don’t let that slow you down, beat the next timer.
Suddenly every Naxx quarter is a half hour run, every pug instance is a quick heroic.
LFG Timers
Hell, you should get achievements for pug formation speed. Imagine getting an achievement ding because you puulled a group in 1 minute using LFG.
So not like this post is a speed post or anything, but I would love a few more encouragements to get those instance and raid runs over quickly.

time-achievements/

I agree 100%, the other epic “proc” of timed events is less loot QQ and uming and ahhing it just gets done which is a super nice change from the norm.
They should introduce an achieve for that too,
“Distribute all loot in under 2 minutes for each boss for an entire raid instance for each boss.”
Acheivement reward: Title “Loot master” or ” the Roadrunner looter” or something less lame..
I found the easiest way to do the timed event in Arachnid is to have the loot master stay behind and do the amster looting while everyone else keep heading towards the next boss.
“I would love a few more encouragements to get those instance and raid runs over quickly.”

/cheer
/dance
/beer
How is that for encouragement?
I agree, I love quick runs. I begin to lose focus after a couple of hours. I want a timed achievement of The Stocks. On the mage that would be a hoot:)
What I wouldn’t give for the ability to speed up Violet Hold. I love the instance, it’s right there in Dalaran. . .but ohh emm gee it seems sooooooooooooooooooo long sometimes.
It’s great if you have someone that’s new tanking/healing – it gives them enough break time to not be overwhelmed too badly. However if you’re taking a seasoned group in there it can be painfully slow.
I have found that if you 3 man VH, there’s not much downtime between mobs though and it’s much more fun.
I like the idea you had there regarding “tiered” time achievements. Seems like it could really make the instances more replayable without it being a chore.
I love the timed achievements. I want (if I were king) a tank that runs immediately from group to group, pulling everything and fearlessly trusting his healer(s) to keep him up. Timed events encourage that.
Maybe I’m too old school, I’m not hip to this whole Achievement system. Now where’s my rocking chair, gramps gotta sit down.
“bee’s private part” yeah thats not in my Aussie to American dictionary
One other thing is that you can just skip the looting all together until everyboss is down then just run back to each boss at the end an distribute loot. THe one time i was in a group that tried the achievement we did this. We ended up just barely missing the time but we were still able to get back to each boss and distribute their loot.
@Wizzfizz: “Loot master” sounds like an awesome idea!
@Darraxus: We tried this, but unfortunately some people (PuGs) aren’t on vent, and can’t read raid/raid warning/whisper or any other chat for that matter… On one such occasion ML (THD – as required) and a PuG healer both had their heads stuck in the corpse… Unfortunately, the rest of the raid didn’t realize we were one healer down, and the mobs took advantage of us…
@Cathy: You forgot /slaptothebackofthehead…
Stock’s timer would be around 30 seconds… to be fair, 1 minute…
@Eury: The thing that gets to me usually with VH, is we are sprinting from one portal spawn to another (most of the time), yet boss goes down and we twiddle thumbs for 2 minutes… Wish there was a “Play” button to start the even up again.
3 man might be the solution…. mind you next you are going to suggest I could solo stockades…
@Misneach: Not just tiered achievements, but tiered loot. Put a modifier on the loot.
eg: Lets say 30 min Arachnid is par… any gold earned on 30 minute run = x1.
20 minute run = goldx1.2, 15 minute run = goldx1.5, 40 minute run = goldx0.8 etc.
@smart001: And don’t they keep the blood pumping… whoah I am only at 20% mana… damn it, here I come anyway…
@theerivs: Ahhh Gramps… here’s your slippers… I am with you to a fair extent… but I must say the “ding” of an achievement is a great replacement for the NEED of an item… sure it’s nothing EXTRA, but it’s something extra (for the same relative effort)
@telanarra: Well it would be wrong of me to use a word like “dick” unless of course it was a part of a sentence and thus in context…
@priestgiblet: Ahh good to know you can go start – finish and back for the loot.
Still, I think it wouldn’t hurt if we did a couple of basic things like…
if we are going for one challenging achievement, let’s not increase the complexity by throwing another into the mix… after all, we will be back again next week, so let’s do timed this week, Nutso Faerlina next week and you can bring your alts on their gearing run the week after.
[...] took the advice of Priestgiblet, and left the bosses with their loot, so all 10 of us could move on. Slow and steady was the call, [...]
