I cancelled my WoW account (don’t panic… keep reading).
Real Life has heated up, and on Mother’s day, I made the decision to cancel my account and focus more on the variety of RL things until I can afford space for the game.
It’s funny because this reminds me of a post spurred by Larisa a long time ago… My Last 5 hours of Wow – The Gnomeaggedon Cometh.
Things are a bit different in this scenario, Blizzard isn’t shutting down servers, no one else is in a 5 hour gore fest of last chance playing, no I am canceling my subscription and everyone else will log on tomorrow, and it is unlikely that anyone will even notice my absence, well only a few will anyway.
So what to do with those last 5 hours?
- Naxx one more time?
- Battleground frustration?
- Visit Wintergrasp for the 2nd and last time?
- Organize a raid on Orgrammir to complete the For The Alliance achievement?
- One last run through as many of the old works instances as possible?
I think I will settle for Naxx (or a couple of the other 10 man raids), one last night with my RL friends taking pleasure in the thrill of the boss kill and the despair of the wipe. Once more with my “guild” of RL friends, friends that without WoW, due to physical distance, will become more distant.
Future gatherings will find them clustered talking about their latest gear, their achievements, the Ulduar kills, or maybe even the new expansion.
I will be an outsider then, having more in common with my wife’s friends than my own for once.
And what of you my readers?
Many of you are blog authors yourselves, so I will continue to get an insight into your lives and WoW adventures, for as long as they are comprehensible and I can maintain some point of reference.
However I know I will loose the rest of you, at least until the time, if & when, I return to WoW and blogging.
I will miss you all more than you an imagine. I have grown to love the WoW blogging community and the ever expanding Mage community in particular.
I play WoW one night a week, I blog at least 5 days a week… At this point I probably have more invested in the blog than WoW itself. Wow is just my muse.
If you haven’t already, subscribe to my feed… That way, when this Gnome crawls back out of Gnomeregan, ready to speak out, you will be the 1st to know.
Until then…
Gnome and Out!

Ho Ho.. what’s this, there is more after the Gnome’s tagline…
Yep, I have canceled my account and it is still canceled, it will expire this Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 11:25 PM (Melbourne, Australia time).
But.. but.. but…
It is 99% likely that I will be resubscribing during the week, with plenty of time to log on again next Friday night.
Not only will I be resubscribing, but most likely I will purchase a 6 month subscription rather than the month-by-month subscription I have had.
I know I have concerned a quite a few of you… but then I know I that some were never convinced I would go…
So this post was made some 2 weeks ago, when I was confident that I would be laying down tools… and I have decided that rather than leave another post in my drafts folder for ever, I would just put it out there… it was quite cathartic writing this post, as was the earlier Account Canceled post, where I asked for your reasons (if any) for canceling (if ever) and how you felt about it.
I was very touched by either your outright expressions of concern, or by your subtle, disbelieving pokes in the hope I was just fooling about (It was actually a genuine question on my part… I went through a bit of a roller coaster of emotion about canceling, and just wondered how others felt)
The Real Life stuff hasn’t gone away and I will be more focused than ever on it… probably to the detriment of this blog for the next 6 months or so, but it will all have a happy ending, and I intend to enjoy the ride
So, just for one post, a new tagline…
Gnomer and Back!

DON’T SCARE US!
breath breath breath.. he’s not gone. YOU ARE NOT GONE.
Right? Please don’t leave us. I’m scared. The words say I shouldn’t be scared, but the impending doom says to be afraid.
Welcome back?
OMG wow. I had to read it twice to make sure I was seeing what I was actually reading.
You can’t leave not until 1 of 2 things happens. . .
1. Mages wear bikinis while sheeping
OR
2. Mage polymorph things into sheeps in bikinis
So yes, based on the last paragrah or two of your post – welcome back!!
You really enjoy scaring the hell out of people, don’t you? Ever worked at the ghost house at an amusement park?
However, I don’t mind. As long as the posts end this way you can joke about with us a bit.
No cash to send I’m a fraid, but a lot of thoughts and mental hugs. I hope things will work out for you.
@Klepsacovic: lol… It’s the way of the Mage.. staring disaster in the face & surviving… only to request a 5 minute bio to quickly change your pants….
@Eury: lol Be warned… I am from Australia.. and we are “close cousins” to the sheep lovah’s from New Zealand… if you are ever looking for sheep in bikinis (or gum boots) that’s the place to start.
@Larisa: More like the rollercoaster… did your stomach rise and fall while you were reading it… were you a little dizzy and disoriented at the end of the ride?
You stuck with it till the end though… maybe I should preface all my posts with /bye for now!
Thoughts and mental hugs can lead to lots of opportunities, so I will gratefully collect them!
Thanks…
Yeah, so just to repeat… I haven’t gone… yet
Bah!
I say be gone gnome!
Okay seriously. RL sucks yo! Sometimes RL gets in the way of playing this game. Sometimes this game is a great escape. Either way, enjoy what you have. I know I have friends in this game I would never have otherwise.
/salute teh g-nome.
NOOOOOOOooooooooo!!
who will lead us fire mages to glory if you go?
Holy crap. I just started reading your blog not too long ago and reading this just about knocked me out of my back-ache inducing, office chair. Happy to hear that you’re sticking around as I always enjoy reading.
6-month subscription saves a bit of cash too.
Not much, but every little bit helps.
I do hope you get your RL things sorted out. Sometimes that stuff happens and you need to just deal with it. I have people in my guild apologize for not logging in for days, sometimes even weeks. I tell them to shut up and stop being so silly. Real life is always number one, and I’m never going to gkick anyone because they have stuff going on.
Best of luck and glad you’re sticking around!
I read blogs in the morning.
Not nice to twist my gut in the morning.
You just need to get your wife to play!
The family that, uh, raids together stays together, or something.
So glad you are sticking around!
I am one of the many readers who feel like we know you even though we don’t leave comments regularly so, you don’t get to know us. Thanks for all the insight and entertainment you provide us.
Good luck with RL and know there are many unknown voices supporting you and rooting for you.
Sweet mother of god you are trying to kill me. I’ve just recently met you via blogging and have come to love harrassing and torturing you (still have that rack waiting). Don’t ever take that away from me.
Find the balance grasshopper. If you can snatch the pepple from my hand….blah blah Make it work. Blog less often, shorter…write one sentence..I don’t care…you ain’t going anywhere:)
*grabbing your grimey little gnome blogging hand* now “stay there”
Smooches
Dear Gnomer,
Although I am a warlock, I still have feelings.
Please stop playing with my emotions.
/cast soulstone
There, now you must stay put. I’ll set it right over…. here.
Love,
Syrana
speechless.
@ Pie: GnomeBeNotGone! Thanks, I will enjoy what I have, while I have it, and while I do,I will chare as much with you guys as I can!
@Prelimar: I’m still here… but I would be keeping a sly eye on Larisa and Krizzlybear… Me thinks I have worn them down, and they have a taste for napalm!
@Troutwort: Anything to help with a bit of office ergonomics
The 6 months will save a little.. but will also insulate me from the AUD/USD fluctuations.
The worst part is (and I dare say other bloggers have gone through this recently) if it was just the game… I could stop tomorrow… I am actually more committed (my wife would give that word a slightly different meaning) to you guys I think… which means that I need to keep playing… there are only so many stories about Odin that I can bore you will each month.
@Arioch: “Armageddon’s coming… better than a double espresso 1st thing in the morning”
My wife wouldn’t play… if she did she would insist on a transfer to a PvP realm.. then she would roll horde, and gank me mercilessly until I gave up and did stuff around the house… You wouldn’t believe the joy she would get out of my tears of frustration at being corpse camped by her…
@Jesta: Hey Jesta, well it was worth it if for no other reason that to drag you out of the shadows… Not that I did it will any ulterior motive…
@Cathy: Balance? A Fire Mage with balance? We ride the waves of threat, trying to push it that one step too far relying on our tanks to win the day for us…
What’s that old saying… Live Fast, Die Young?
@Syrana: You already have my soul somewhere… Looks like Jesta stepped out of the shadows at the wrong time… not like a Lock is going to give back a soul though is it…
Sorry for the panic… but not sorry for catching Zupa speechless… not that that lasted long… he then writes a blog post length comment to today’s post…
EVIL gnome! You must be spanked! Glad you’re staying.
@PewPewLazerz: Between you and Syrana, I am going to be a very battered and bruised little Gnome…
Although, if Syrana puts me on a rack, and you soften me up a little… I night come out of this looking more like a Night Elf
@ PewPewLaserz “EVIL gnome! You must be spanked!” That’ll cost us extra to see him spanked. hmm how much I wonder?
Hope the RL sorts it self and you get cake and to eat it too. Always a difficult thing to keep life balanced (or I find anyway).
