Saturday Night’s alright to Party: but leave the Death Knights at Home!
The weekend that was… pretty good when all is said an done.
Friday night was Naxx10 night, but it took a while to get the group together.
All 7 of us mates where ready and waiting, but some nights it’s so hard to find just one more.
Unfortunately the “one more” we got was a Mage…. (Actually fortunately, he wasn’t that well geared, but knew his job, and his main dropped in to help us with Gluth).
Once we got going, we dived into the Construct Quarter.
It turns out that a couple of my mates had never made it this far, which was a part of the reason for starting there… start on the harder quarters, and give them some experience.
Patchwerk: while not as quick as we would like, was easy as usual.
Grobbulus: I died immediately…
I must have run through a poison cloud on the way to explode.
Luckily THD had Gnomeaggedon’s Battle Rez hotkeyed, so I was back into it pretty quickly.
Gluth: I had quite a bit of fun with Gluth this week. I wasn’t kiting, but I did get to join in on the fun.
Good news…
- Leggings of the Lost Vanquisher dropped.
- Our PuG Mage had swapped out for his main for this fight to do the kiting.
- I rolled a 91!
Bad news…
- our PuG Mage’s main is a Death Knight
- He rolled 96… /cry
Thaddius: After disgracing myself on a couple of previous encounters, I was ready to make it through this fight, showing the team how coordinated I could be. Only problem was, that this was the 1st time in for our Thaddius tank.
So guess who tanked Thaddius?
- Yeah me… if you call being one shot the moment he was active tanking…
At least I didn’t zap anybody right…
- Mmm wrong… THD and his Keybound Gnomer-Battle-Rez made sure that I disgraced myself one more time. I swear I hadn’t even accepted the Rez before I was dead…
I never realized it, but I got my mind on money, although as you can see, I am a cheap date.
On to Military Quarter
Instructor Razuvious: This guy is one of the reasons we didn’t clear Naxx in one night. It took us 3 attempts to get him down, always a mystery why this happens.
Anyway, he had a little something kept aside for me to make up for favoring Death Knights…
Which means that I show Loken my middle finger…. Mmm I have 4 fingers, so there isn’t a middle finger… OK, I show you two fingers!
Gothik the Harvester: Part 2 of the reason we didn’t clear Naxx in one night… 4 attempts?

/FailMage (or is that Magetard?)
At this point I will discuss one of my failings as a Mage… Ports.
- I need to repair… port to Ironforge.
- I need some reagents… port to Ironforge.
- I just need to leave the place I am in… port to Ironforge
So what’s the problem with that?
I am so quick to port, that when I die in Naxx, and need to repair, I don’t just fly to Wintergarde Keep and repair… No that would be too quick and easy…

I port to Ironforge – repair – port to Dalaran - fly to Wintergarde Keep – fly to Naxx… Talk about developing bad Magely habits!
The Four Horsemen: Part 3 of the reason we didn’t clear Naxx in one night, it only took 2 attempts though.
The fun part of this fight was that it was my 2nd tanking gig for the Naxx run. Unlike the 1st tanking gig (Thaddius), this one was intended… all good, all 4 horsemen cleaned up.
Arachnophobia Quarter
Note to self: If your group is thinking about going for the 20 minute achievement to get Maexxna, don’t let your 2nd highest damage dealer swap to his undergeared Alt for a loot run… do that next time!
Anub’Rekhan: Sack of spider droppings… Bye bye Anoob!
Grand Widow Faerlina: One more reason we didn’t knock over Naxx in one night, and the reason we didn’t beat the timer… 3 attempts later the Widow joined her many deceased husbands…
Sash of Mortal Desire dropped… but who cares… I already got one of those… looks like loot for our PuG Mage.
Maexxna: Being on Web duty and being the 1st to get webbed, and being a favorite target of web is not a good recipe for DPS in this fight. Never-the-less, she went down.
The Plague Quarter.
Noth the Plaguebringer: Yeah.. Whatever…
Heigan the Unclean: Good news… I didn’t die in the 1st dance…
Bad news, I died in the last wave of the 2nd dance.
This was also another time waster, it taking us two attempts…

Loatheb: I got this fight right for the 1st time… picked up spores, did DPS.
Loatheb dropped Spaulders of the Lost Vanquisher, but I have been smoking for a couple of weeks now… looks like our PuG Mage has another T7 piece.
Frostwyrm Lair
Sapphiron: It was late… we gave it one go, but between people seeing this for the 1st time, and too many heads resting on keyboards, Sapp beat us this time around… but don’t worry, we will be back!
Saturday night’s alright to party!
I had a little bit of time before kickoff, so I thought I would spend a few of those Emblems of Heroism I had been collecting. All the loot tools told me that there were a couple of items that were basically best in slot for my level of non-progression, so to the various vendors Gnome did go.
1st Emblem sink was the Sundial of the exiled
No worries, all looks good. Bought, equipped, now let’s go find that other vendor.
2nd Emblem sink was Plush Sash of Guzbah…
- I bought it, check it out, gave it back.
- I checked it out again.. bought it again… still have reservations.
My biggest issue with it was that it put me soooo far over hit cap that it made me want to cry. I keep hearing people stressed out about hit cap, but for some reason I haven’t had a problem with reaching hit cap… the only problem I have had is staying blow hit cap.
Anyway, emblems are now spent.
While I was shopping I went and bought some Spellweave Gloves from the AH.
The realized I needed to embroider my cloak, looked for it, realized it was BoP tailoring, but I was too low level. Bought a truckload of cloth off the AH and leveled up to 420 to get the embroidery…
Damn, need Moonshroud, back to the AH, get the mats, back to Dragon Blight, make the Embroidery.
Well, at least I had some cloth stuff to DE for enchanting mats.
Decided I would buy some cooking recipes too, might as well get onto cooking my own meats, and I will get some levels while I am at it.
So much to quick!
Threw myself in the queue for Heroic Violet Hold while I was doing my hunting, gathering & crafting.
Group came pretty quick as VH was the daily, so in we went…
You can’t really expect too much excitement out of VH… sure its a fun instance, but it’s pretty quick, over before you know it, so I was a bit surprised when I head that “ding”… and I was exalted with the Kirin’Tor…
Damn it, I didn’t bring any other tabbards!
Not sure what reputation to level up next, but I think my only extra tabbard at the moment is the Wyrmrest one.
The run went pretty quickly, but we sort of collapsed on Cyanigosa.
Luckily the tank survived long enough, that the Hunter’s pet could tank her until the Hunter finished her off.
The next surpise… was a doozy…
You know that:
- You can’t enter an instance while a boss fight is on… (So don’t release!) and
- If you aren’t in the instance when the boss dies, you aren’t eligible for the loot (So don’t release!)
As soon as Cyanigosa dropped I got a Rez…. which I thought was a bit strange, because I was sure the priest had bitten the dust early on too.
Sure enough, the Priest, with the best of intentions, released and raced back to heal the party… just couldn’t get inside… so missed out on the loot roll.
This was real unfortunate for him… I truly feel sorry for him.
Still, I couldn’t contain my excitement…. I was swiveling around in my computer chair like a flaming idiot…

Instead of a chance roll on two drops, they were handed to me on a platter…
From all reports the Azure Cloth Bindings are the best in slot for a long time to come… These are really the only reason I was running Violet Hold in the 1st place (sure it’s a nice enough instance, but there is more that I can do with my time, so much more).
As for the Mark of the War Prisoner, it is up there in all the loot lists, so I was excited to grab it…
I mean I was the only taker for it after all…
Just like the Plush Sash of Guzbah, it left me feeling a little cold inside… sure it’s great, but I got more +Hit than any one Gnome can handle.
To the bank with you… you are now my Bank Prisoner! You will be released on good behavior only when I need hit.
Baxx to Naxx

My mates finally all got online (Saturday night is intentionally a late start so we all get full days with our families), so we shot off to Frostwyrm Lair cause we only needed one more DPS.
- /1 LF1M DPS Sapp & KT only, ready to go now!
- /2 LF1M DPS Sapp & KT only, ready to go now!
- /lfg LF1M DPS Sapp & KT only, ready to go now!
- /g LF1M DPS Sapp & KT only, ready to go now!
- /anybody? LF1M DPS Sapp & KT only, ready to go now!
It took us so long to get a DPS, that we lost a healer…. In the end we grabbed a Death Knight (cue icy chill down Gnome’s spine), and got going.
One shot Sapphiron…
Not much to roll for, but I was the only one interested in Shroud of the Citadel. On a positive note, it doesn’t have any hit!
Two shot Kel’Thuzad, which isn’t bad for a group that had a few people that had never seen the fight before.
(cue icy chill down Gnome’s spine)
Should be feeling good right…?
(cue icy chill down Gnome’s spine)
Is that a Death Knight in the raid?
(cue icy chill down Gnome’s spine)
Damn my ROLL!
(Queue spitting, swearing and crying in Vent)
/w DK Grats!
If not for the 2 Death Knights, over 2 nights, I would have had 4 piece set bonus!
Moral of the story…
Worry less about the additional Mages in the raid…
Worry more about the hero class Death Knights..
They have a direct line to Arthas… and Blizzard!
PS: Proof that my feedreader is as evil as a Warlock on heat:

So that means I need to go and get my weekly dose of Forbearance.. he’s about as evil as any Paladin can be… not for the feint of heart, but he tickles my fancy in the way only a Paladin in a skirt can. If nothing else, read this one!

Wow, you’ve been a busy gnome! Grats to all the loot, kills and achievements! Death to the deathknights! (oh, wait, they’re already dead, aren’t they?)
I used those bindings for ages, so don’t be cheap with the enchants!
I swap between those bindings and the Preceptor’s.
The Plush Sash is awesome. Not only does it have hit on it, it has a gem bonus for hit – and it has a gem slot! Toss an eternal belt buckle on that and you’ve got a sexy two-gem belt.
I’m guessing that you’re fire spec… you need all the hit you can get. If you take enough frost to get Precision you’re still looking at 14% to be raid hit capped – 368 points of hit. Less if you have a draenei, spriest, etc.
And DKs are the bane of tier rolls for mages everywhere. /cry
@Larisa… I am never cheap with enchants… I need to level anyway… just DE old item and put that towards the next enchant…
Yeah unDeath to the Death Knights… Death is too good for them!
Arioch: I am leaking Hit… over 400 if I throw on all my hit gear…
Time for a change of tack I think… I am just going to go looking for dps stuff… maybe there’s some PvP stuff out there that is worthwhile.
If my spell power was better I would go back to pure fire, after all I am not lacking for hit….
I guess I just need to stop DE’ing everything when I get an upgrade… I need more mix ‘n match options
When you use “queue”, I think you mean “cue”.
@Ragnarogue: Thankcue and corrected!
Oooh, that’s some yummy looking gear…my clothies are feeling more inspired suddenly!
You must have hit the jackpot on hit gear!
It took a long time for me and the mages I run with to collect enough without using the Ebonweave set and I even had to gem for it not too long ago.
Consider yourself a lucky little gnome.
Congrats on all the goodies….
Yah know you need a lock in your group save on all the running back and forth!
We also don’t roll on the same Tier pieces as Mages or those darn DK’s.
@Troutwort: Anything I can do to encourage more cloth wearers has got to be a good thing!
@Arioch: I know I am a lucky Gnome… any time I feel my luck draining I blow a 1,000 on stuff at the AH that will be immediately replaced… don’t know why it works… but it works
@deimonia: Keep your filthy locks out of my party… what I loose in coming back, I already made up in porting
You too Zupa… stay away… you aren’t welcome on Aman’Thul with your Deadette… keep it away from my loot list!
