For a long time now I have had a quiet chuckle each time I launched myself onto my Mechanostrider and head off.
The reason is the huge puff of smoke that shoots out the back of my strider to the cacophony of squeaking and spluttering Gnome Engineered parts.
But I noticed something when I jumped on my immaculately groomed Cenarion War Hippogryph and launched myself into the sky the other day…
A huge plume of smoke!
So now I am left wondering…
- Is it just a visual movement effect that all races and mounts have…
- Is it the remaining traces of my fascination for Fire…
- Or do Gnomes smoke?
I know we are hot, fully dressed, but even more so when we are in our smalls… But smoking hot?
Actually, I discovered over the weekend, that if you have the Heroes FrostFire Shoulderpads, that you do smoke! But I only just put these one… so it doesn’t change any of the previous content…

Indeed, all mounts (That aren’t class specific) do emit a puff of smoke when you mount on them.
I think that’s either dust or the air shoved aside by the sudden materialization of a beast.
You guys know how to break a “young” Gnome’s heart…
I really hoped it was my greasy smoky mechanostrider…
But a puff of smoke, or condensed air…
Well, at least MY Gnome smokes now…
FrostFire Shoulderpads FT(Smoky)W!
Yeah, the difference is, all the other mounts are certified environmentally friendly, with their low carbon emission materialisation visuals. Gnomes on the other hand, especially engineering gnomes… tsk. Almost as much air pollution as the Burning Legion.
I can’t wait to get my own mechanostrider.
I just need, like, 54657856 more days of argent tournament dailies… and maybe…. MAYBE… I’ll get exalted with them =P
I can never have a mechanostrider…
I even ground gnome rep for DAYS on my night elf (back when I played Alliance) and discovered I couldn’t get one at the time.
Now you can of course, but my heart was broken so badly by the gnomes that I stopped playing my nelf and went Horde.
@Averna: I curse you and your Argent Tournament rep… I only recently grinded all the Alliance reps to Exalted via old school “hunt down the quests in starting zones” method.
Now I discover I could have just done dailies….
Mind you that was my whinge at the time, that there weren’t any dailies to get rep…
@Arioch: Us Gnomes are heartbreakers, that is true… though not normally over our mechanostriders, it’s usually due to our incredible good looks and amazing wit!
Yes Gnomes smoke. And they catch on fire.
Blow up.
Make funny noises when they die.
And they suck when they are little rogues and they jump around like jumping beans.
You aren’t a gnome rogue are you?
@Pie: Well Fire Mage Gnomes definitely smoke, catch fire and blow up.. make funny noises… swearing is funny these days?
Gnome rogues… why stealth when no one looks down anyway?
The only reason they jump is so you can see them over your corpse…
Gnome = Yes
Rogue = No
Rogue involves getting up close and personal… I am not that social…
