Patch 3.1.1.1.1…. Is treating me pretty well I think, but I wouldn’t be my usual well adjusted Gnomish self if I didn’t bitch about something, so…
Auto-looting is great.
One head goes into the boss’ sack and passes the badges about. The biggest issue is I often panic that I didn’t get the badge, but all good.
Maybe I don’t need the spam when the other 24 folks get their badges, just tell me about mine.
Missed by that much…
Thing that annoys me about this is why couldn’t Blizzard go one teeny weeny step further and give us auto looting of quest drops.
You see I did a Heroic Culling of Stratholme.
It was the daily quest.
I just needed to grab a bosses head.
But I didn’t!
You see I have become so used to the badges flowing into my backpack and the gear popping up a roll screen that I just plain forgot to loot the boss.
Problem is you can’t go back later. Arthas may know how to open that bookshelf, but this little Gnome was left scratching his flowing green beard.
That’s my issue.
Please fix it blizzard.
More loot information please…
On a slightly different topic, I wish that when the 1st person stuck their head in the boss’ sack while looting via master looter, that the items got automatically linked.
I appreciate that one should know whether there is any loot that one wants off a boss, but if the 1st time you see what the item is is while you are getting the 3. 2. 1. countdown… It’s a bit late.
See I prefer to stay away from boss mobs. I don’t care if they are alive, or theoretically dead. I learnt my lesson as a kid.
Don’t stand on the dead bull ant – it will still hurt you
I always figure that my nose is best left out of the loot unless I want something.
Problem is if the looter doesn’t link them the viewing window is a bit small.
Hell, should I roll on the 1st item when I don’t know that the 2nd item is?
Just link it up automatically Blizz. No fancy loot window, just a message to chat will me fine.
It can all be traced back to my childhood
This all reminds me of a traumatic experience I had as a kid… Probably about 26 years ago.
I was at a D&D tournament with my mates.
Our team, Leftovers, was primarily composed of mates, but even back then I had to PUG for a raid!
/sigh
Anyway, we came 2nd place in the tournament.
We had some awesome fights, which while maybe not being heavily roleplayed (the winning team were awesome roleplayers btw), we were definitely creative.
After one such fight, we had to rest, for a week of game time.
After we heard the results, our DM on the day came over, offered commiserations, then quietly informed me that if we had looted that mob, we would have won the tournament.
One week and we didn’t notice the big sack of loot hanging off the giant’s giant rotting corpse?
Mind you, back in those days tournaments were as much speed runs as anything, and first rule was ignore the loot… It wasted time.
Anyway, moral of the story (this is pointed at you Blizzard). The DM, who was a lovely guy, spent the 30 seconds after divulging his secret very dry.
The rest of the day, once be dragged himself out of the nearby pool, was very wet.
Don’t get wet Blizzard.
More auto looting please!
PS: One step closer to being the most beloved Gnome in Gnomeragan!

I don’t understand why with some quests that you need to take a head back, whereas others, the second the mob dies, you get the Quest Complete message.
Just scrap the pointless ‘bring me the head of Joe Garcia’ request, there is no need for it.
Clearly the important part of this post is the part where you’re nearly Chmapion of Gnomeregan! Everything pales into insignificance!
Calli’s almost there too, Stormwind done, it HAD to be Gnomeregan next!
Those needy little gnomes always wanting more:) Totally agree that quest items should automatically pop into your grimmey little bag once the boss is dead.
Hey, and why a head? Why not a kidney or baby toe?
We link everything first and then start linking individually for rolls. I’m surprised there isn’t an addon for this type of thing. Is there? Poor loot master is always left behind…which is fine if he smells.
I totally agree about having to look at the loot from a boss in a raid. If you wait for the master looter to link it 1) you have a limited amount of time to see it at the same time they want you to roll and 2) the way it is set up, it is easier to shift-click the item on the boss so you can do an active compare of your items. Points go to the gnome!
Oddly enough, last night, I had 2 different bosses in H Nexus that did NOT auto-loot my emblem to me. The bosses were all sparklyl, I checked ‘em and was all “wtf why is my emblem still there.”
It was a bit odd.
And, yeah, why not auto-loot quest item off a boss. Sideshow forgot to grab the dragon’s heart since the emblems were auto-looted. Heh.
1st up…
I know I wasn’t very clear in my original post and reading some of the WoWInsider comments related to this subject (Yay more linkage), people think what I am asking for is easy mode…
The thing is, some quests already have a similar mechanic. ie. the quest in The Nexus. When one person completes the quest everyone does.
@*vlad*: I don’t mind the flavor of “bringing back the head”, but it’s a bugger when you get all the way back to the quest giver, only to discover the head is still on the mob.
This is exacerbated when in a Heroic… once per day… get it right first time or FAIL!
@pewpewlazerz: Clearly the important part is I am a LONG way off getting the mechanostrider… but a Gnome can dream.
But Champion of Gnomeregan is within my grasp… but I think I might stop there.
@Cathy: If Blizz gave me my mechanical flying mount… I would shut up… but they wont, so neither will I!
As for loot linking… I know it’s just a slip on the lootmaster’s part… But I hate it when everyone else is discussing it, and I have no idea what IT is. Really, if anybody that stuck their head in the loot sack linked I would be happy.
@Zaralin: as easy as it seems, it escapes some people. I even yelled at my mates the other night for not linking. Glad that was points TO the Gnome, not AT the Gnome.
@Syrana… Bugs just make it worse… I feel for Sideshow!
