What to do at 80… Maybe a little of this…
So I hit 80 the other day… you may have read that far…
This left me in a quandary.
I have promised myself I will quest right through Northrend before I instance or raid.
I have promised myself I will revisit the old world before I Instance and Raid the newest world.
I have promised myself I will be strong…
But I am weak…
Thursday night, I found myself logging on… I wasn’t going to, but I am weak.
There were a lot of things I wanted to do, but I got a whisper from one of my mates asking if I wanted to join them in ZG to take down Hakkar for the achievement.
Not what I wanted to do, but it falls into the category of Old World, so before I knew what I was doing I had accepted the party invite and the summons.
We dropped in on Hakkar, without dealing with any of the other bosses. He proved too strong for us at 1st. The group decided that we were crippled by a few things…
- The other bosses were all alive, and we were facing too many special abilities.
- Our Healer (Tree Hugger Dave) was crippled after an unfortunate incident where he tried to take on his alter-ego (a tree) armed only with a motorbike and bare feet. Score: Tree 1: Broken toe 1. Apparently pain meds + alcohol are a great combination.
- Said tree druid had swapped his bark for feathers… so the bloody “tree-druid” was out dps’ing the Mage… when he was menat to be healing!
So we went off and had a quiet chat to the other ZG bosses, suggesting that they step out of the way, and not empower Hakkar. I got a little distracted on the way, and decided that it was time to do a bit of fishing while I was in the neighborhood.
Bizarre achievement by the way… you just have to fish him up… which only involves fishing for the bait… Once you fish him up.. run like hell and you still get the achievement. We tried for the turtle though… good money there, if you manage to score it.
Achievement in hand, it was time to off Hakkar.
Not so tough now are you!
I can’t remember why, maybe I felt like doing a little more fishing or cooking, but I was in Outland, so I dropped over to Hellfire Peninsula, and looked for the one spot on the map I had never been… apparently I was never in great need of Motes of Shadow.
Friday night I spent the 1st 3 hours cleaing up my inventory, looking for and purchasing gear on the AH, and working out the best way to start leveling Tailoring and Enchanting.. which included some Outland enchants on my new gear.
At this point I want to thank Miss Elf for her guides: Guide: Pre-Raid Mage Gear in Wrath and Guide: Mage Enchants & Gems in Wrath. I know they aren’t the only ones out there, but I found them at the right time.
So I have laid down a chunk of cash on gear, gems and enchants (Ohh how much I love the fact that you can buy enchanted scrolls on the AH!), the question is what to do next… level enchanting for a bit I think.
That’s when I get a whisper out of the blue asking if I want to come to Naxx!
Is this person mad?
I check them out, they are from my guild.
I whisper back to tell them I have only just cleared the level 80 hurdle and can probably offer nothing more than a target for the bosses to one shot.
Raid Invite box appears…
“We know, it’s OK” whisper is returned.
That’s when I realize it’s my favorite Guild Leader Malleo sending the raid invite… he knows, and is always looking out for me.
When I get there, the party is forming up for Gothik kill.. I get told to go undead side and DPS my heart out.
I am very thankful to our Raid Leader (Madamehell)… she was extremely patient. Not because anyone screwed up, but just because she realised she would have to repeat the strategy again, yet did so happily and very clearly… even checking in with me to make sure I was up to speed.
Sounds easy… and would have been easier if I wasn’t lagging so much… so much DPS, so few screen refreshes.
Before I know it, job done… way before I knew it.. I was waiting for the big moment, and it kind of passed me by.
I got my 1st one of these… and the achievement to boot.
Next up was the Four Horsemen…
Well, next up was a Four Horsemen wipe.
This made me feel much better (strange but true), this felt right… one must wipe before one clears after all.
Quick change of tactics brought a swift end to the fight. I was quite proud of myself… knowing nothing at all about the encounter, yet I worked out pretty quick to change targets when I got my 3 charges and dps to my hearts content.
The weirdest thing out of the whole fight was I was watching my bars. I am used to watching my health and mana bars, I always had to watch them like a hawk in TBC.
My mana bar must have been broken.
- My health bar went down and up like a yo yo… as one would expect…
- But my mana bar just sat there at full… I couldn’t cast fast enough to make it move… so I just cast and cast some more.
I was feeling pretty good at this point. I felt good that I had blown a couple of grand on gear so I could at least contribute a little. At the end of the 1st fight I was in 20th position on the meters, at the end of the 2nd 16th… which I assume was due to deaths, because I wasn’t putting out that much damage.
The call was put out to roll…
Gnome rolls… a 27….
No, not just a 27, but the 27.. the highest 27 roll for that item.
So what does a Gnome earn for a 27….
Pffft… 1,000 gold down on a chest piece I replace 2 hours later… glad I had a stockpile left over from TBC, otherwise I would have been crying…
That said, you know how these things work.. I bought 1,000 gold worth of luck to spend on a roll of 27!
So I went and got me one of these… and promptly gemed and enchanted it instead.
What to do now… maybe I will knock out a couple of dailies…
Whoah, I have done 200 dailies?
There is one daily that is going to prove the death of me though… Aces High!
I expect I will work it out one day… just wasn’t going to be this day…
Please someone save me from this frustration….
Ohh what’s that?
My mates want to know if I want to run any instances…
Maybe this Voilet Hold place I have heard of… bit like Black Morass on steroids.
Sounds good…. ohh give me one of those things too…
What’s next?
Culling of Stratholme… sure, why not!
This was an interesting experience… great to be back in the Caverns of Time, and even better that I wasn’t getting lost this time around.
The scenery was good, the story line interesting.
Just one question…. Is there a fast forward button one can use on repeat visits to theses places?
I really don’t think I could be bothered listening to Arthas blabbing on again about his plans. It was great 1st time around, but please tell me I can just keep running in future.
We didn’t complete Stratholme… at this point it was 4am or maybe closer to 4.30 am.
This is all good… a couple of pieces of unfinished business is good for the soul.
Maybe this week I can color in the gaps!

Grats! Looks like you’ve been having a great time at 80 so far. Roz is a bit jealous that you got your tier robe already. Of course, he’s only been 80 for a day, he should be happy with his first pair of heroic pants, eh?
What a fabulous run of events! 80 is treating you well.
Are you taking those achievement screenshots by hand or having a mod do it for you? Because it looks like it’s got the timing off. I couldn’t even read the first two, though I figured out what they were from the context of what you wrote. Grats!
I like going 11151113, adjusting my rotation to go 111115 or 111113 depending on my energy and health.
Congrats! And, my lil’ Gnome friend, I have been meaning to post up a lil’ something about Aces High.. only because.. I had trouble with it at first too. Now I can get through it without dying or being dismounted (MOST of the time!
) but I had to alter the rotation I had read in a few places because it just didn’t seem to be working for me or with me or whathaveyou.

My “1″ key is worn ragged… as well as a few others.
I think it’s a combination of net lag and brain lag, but I am just not getting it yet.
Nance, your vid was great… at least I had some visual indication that I was on the right path… problem was every path lead down on a parachute for me.
That said, I didn’t really give it a good go this weekend… and I probably should have, I had some spare time….

@Kiryn: By a mod PhotoOp… which is usually 99% right with taking shots… but for some reason the 1st few of the night were out. Looks like it was taking them early, but it settled down. It must have some latency modifier… so probably gone from heavy latency fight to relatively “nothing”, thus it has taken it too early.
Mind you, I noticed that it is broken at the moment.
@Zupa: It wont be long before you are screaming at your monitor while your DK gently floats to the earth… two minutes later… it’s a long way down.
@PewPewLazerz As big as we get… Damn.. missed photo opportunity while doing Naxx the other night… I was the biggest Gnome I have ever seen. I would have given all those Northrend giants a reason to run in the opposite direction.
