So as I mentioned I got Cold Weather Flaying the other day, but I was a bit disappointed.
You see, I dressed up in my shortest skirt, threw a box of chocolates, bottle of wine and a 1,000 gold on the back seat of the instructor’s drake and I had received my license before I even left the ground.
Not sure if you have heard stories along these lines about people in the real world getting their licenses, but I think it’s cheating and I felt cheated receiving my Cold Weather Flying license so easily.
Where’s the challenge?
No, in these days of removing attunements, professional skill-up quests and mount quests, maybe this is all fair.
Still, I am left wondering why we can’t have mount quests.
- Learn how to drive the mechanostrider through some wizards hats, a little like Brewfest.
- Fly your mount against a dragonflight, a little like the Netherwing’s Dragonmaw Races
- Fly your mount through a blizzard. I don’t have any examples of this, except maybe the conditions in the Riplash Strand (Borean Tundra). All foggy + racing?
Yes I know that these would only be cosmetic changes, but throwing some gold over the counter and receiving one of the most coveted skills in the game of WoW should be a little more exciting.
If I failed it once or twice, I wouldn’t be loosing any sleep… but I would love the bragging rights if I got it right 1st time… It would be straight down to the local Inn to quaff a few before saddling up again…
There should at least be a fanfare!

If I remember correctly (gosh pre-wrath seems so farfar away), there was going to be a quest for cold weather flying…. but much QQ ensued, so they changed it to a fee.
Oh, btw, you in your shortest skirt… I demand pics.
@Syrana: Mmmm.. let me direct you to: Dear Gnome
This assumes of course that you refer to really really short skirts as belts…
Funny shot hunh! I give Ken doll a run for his money…
I agree wholeheartedly gnome. I understand that from a financial point of view it makes sense for Blizzard to make the game accessible to the casual player as well as the hard core raider, but the more they take away things like attunements, class-specific quests and the like, the less sense of achievement most people will feel for actually completing them. I thought the whole point of RPG’s was to advance your toon as far as possible and make it the best that it can be. I just don’t see how grinding some gold and plopping it down to the nearest vendor can give one a sense of anything other than loss (of their hard-earned gold)!
Oh man, went to the Dear Gnome pick… and them there are some Gnomesy Dukes!
Yes, syrana, it was originally going to be this REALLY EPIC quest chain that everyone was going to feel really rewarded from when they finally finished and got the flying, but they saw the QQ (and I think there may have been some quests that they were having trouble implementing, but I can’t remember).
Sadly, that got scrapped. It’s depressing.
@arcaneasylum & velinath: It is a shame.. they have these defend the wyrmrest quests… which to me are prove you can fly… Hell why not make it if you do the quest 100 times they will give you your license… most people would hand over the cash of course…
@Syrana: Little scary to me… I always liked looking up my Gnome robe while swimming… alright, maybe not… but all that pink flesh is a bit close to home…
