In amazing news out of Blizzard HQ today, Mages have really got something to look forward to…
- Mages get healing tree
- Frost PvE DPS fixed
- Efforts to reduce Mage v Warlock QQ in forums
Mages get healing tree
In efforts to reduce some of the dual spec QQ from Mages, Blizzard announced today that Mages will gain a healing tree.

Inside sources inform me that with dual specs going live, Mages will be able to swap out the healing tree for tanking and melée/ranges specs as well.
Of course the cries from the Druid forums, while loud, have been overshadowed by the cries from the Hunter forums, quote:
I have always wanted to tame a bear Druid, now I hear that Mages get to do it first. Nerf Mages!

However, the taming of the Druids is not without risk. Apparently Druids have an immunity to every snare that a Mage can throw at them. No matter what happens, the end result is bound to be less Druids.
Frost PvE DPS fixed

Well it appears that Blizzard have been listening to my Frosty colleagues. Frost will soon become the most sought after PvE Raiding Mage spec.
In other related news, Fire is to become the new Mage PvP spec with increased survivability and snares. Arcane will once again be buffed to be the primary utility class, with all DPS spells including the much hated Arcane Missiles being removed.
Inside sources inform me that:
We originally intended to just swap the names of the trees, but apparently Mages have been fooled by that before (changes to icons) and buffs to Arcane Intellect (icons) mean it is unlikely we can do that again.
Efforts to reduce Mage v Warlock QQ in forums
In an act of economic rationalism, blizzard announced today their master plan for reducing developers and forum moderators.
Mages and Locks will be merged come 3.2 reducing balancing issues and forum QQ in one stroke.
The new class, “the Wage”, will have all of the shortcomings of both classes (= balance), will require one soulshard for any cast spell, Portals will have a random portal/summon effect. (in testing one Mage actually summoned Dalaran).
It is expected the “the Wage” will devalued compared to other classes, primarily due to the current economic climate.
That’s all the news!
Happy April 1st!
Thanks to Matticus for the inspiration!

I just want to clarify about the frost PvE DPS, they didn’t JUST switch tree names, but they changed the colour of fire spells to blue, and frost spells to red. magenoobs won’t know the difference!
@krizzlybear: Yeah.. I think the sneaky buggers have been preparing for this for a while now…
Have you seen that FrostFire spell… Bit of Blue… Bit of Red…
Next thing you know Frost Bolt is all red… Fireball is all Blue….
Well that is just awesome! I’m definitely going healing spec. as soon as 3.2 hits!!!! I know my utility as a mage has gone down somewhat as of late, so the only thing left to do is give the druids, priests and pallies a good run for their money on the healing meters.
Also, this is the first time I’ve visited your blog, but there are obviously quite a lot of resources here. I can’t wait to dig in and check it out. I love the banner!
@AA: Welcome to the new Mage Blog on the block. The Arcane Asylum: Better Living Through Magic
I knew you were a mage blog when I saw Asylum.. I mean you would have to be mad!
I haven’t had the chance to comment on your blog yet, but I managed to get you into my blog roll before you got here!
Thanks for your thoughts on the header…. it nearly changed a couple of weeks ago… luckily it didn’t!
@gnome: I appreciate the warm welcome and the blog roll add! I really am glad you didn’t change the header. I am also a Photoshop enthusiast and love to play with graphics, so I really appreciate when someone takes the time to do it right.
And yes, you do have to have a twinge of insanity to roll a Mage, but if being a Mage makes me crazy, I don’t wanna be sane (which is a good thing, since I am not sane, just ask my fiance). I hope you have a great week!
I had a good chuckle, but I have to say of all April 1st blog entries I’ve read today mages getting a healing tree was the least believable.
@Morane: believable? What is this believable thing.
We do /silly here… but believable is a bit beyond our grasp.
I was working more to the foolish, than the “I will fool you”.
I am glad I at least gave you a chuckle
Edit: I also meant to say there isn’t much believable about a Green haired Gnome throwing great balls of fire… but I live with it on a daily basis.
I don’t wanna get merged! D:
A healing tree for my mage sounds super! I always felt we needed some kind of buff in that department.
This momentous news may be just the reason I need to fire up my good old mage and lay some overdue smackdown on some little alliance goblin.. I mean gnomes!

Lol, what would mages heal with? Arcane Blasts?
lol… I heal with my Resto Tree… His name is Tree Hugging Dave, and he has a special Battle Rez/LifeBloom macro just for me…
He uses it in a specific rotation…
1 for the tank,
1 for Gnome,
1 for the tank,
1 for Gnome,
1 for the tank,
1 BRez incoming for Gnome
1 for the tank,
1 for Gnome
Ha! Classic. I love it.
PS.
I was a pvp fire mage before pvp fire mages were cool.
One day I KNOW I’ll be able to say that. . .for real.
I have always been Fire… Going FFB was a difficult decision… Arcane dual spec… let’s just say I had to build up the nerve over a few weeks (ohh and clear out the addons)
So PvP has always been fire for me…
Have I been successful….
Well, I have had fun… can’t have everything…
Yall are all fucken retards your so called “inside connections” is bull shit wow is all about the lore of fucken wow making it as real as possible in the sence of lore of most fiction books and storys. WTF mages with a healing set bull shit yall all suck
Bigdippa:
Are you that stupid? Did you check the date of the post? If you did you would have noticed that this was an April 1st post and not meant to be taken seriously. In the future please also use spellcheck before calling people “retards.” I guess you feel kind of dumb now….
P.S. It is normally against my nature to call out people in forums but this guy is ridiculous.
Hey Karthus,
thanks for putting him back in his box. I gave up with this post a long time ago… People seem to read the title then leave their troll comment.
There is somethingelse I would like to thank you for… Getting me to reread the post…
Frost viable for PvE raiding – crazy
Fire for PvP – ridiculous!
Happy April fools…
Ohhh what?
Blizzard have given us those two things?
Incoming April Fools jokes for all QQ classes!
HAHAHAHA…mage healing tree. your sources were wrong…what a noob
i did not see the date…my bad hahahahha rofl got owned
Hi everybody, Happy Fool’s Day!
In front of a delicatessen, an art connoisseur noticed a mangy little kitten lapping up milk from a saucer. The saucer, he realized with a start, was a rare and precious piece of pottery. He strolled into the store and offered two dollars for the cat.
“It’s not for sale,” said the proprietor.
“Look,” said the collector, “that cat is dirty and undesirable, but I’m eccentric. I like cats that way. I’ll raise my offer to ten dollars.”
“It’s a deal,” said the proprietor, and pocketed the money.
“For that sum I’m sure you won’t mind throwing in the saucer,” said the connoisseur. “The kitten seems so happy drinking from it.”
“Nothing doing,” said the proprietor firmly. “That’s my lucky saucer. From that saucer, so far this week I’ve sold 34 cats.”
Happy April Fool’s Day!
