New AFL season promo

Wait, don’t go away just yet…

OK, this has nothing at all to do with Mages, Gnomes or WoW.

This is all to do with arguably the greatest game on earth… (and yes ladies, there is something for you in this too!)

Aussie Rules Football

The A.F.L. have just released this seasons advertisement… and I must say I love it.

Buffing Mages: A Short History

Buffing Mages: A Short History

I am a little disappointed in my Magely Blog colleagues at the moment, it’s all Q to the power of Q.

Sure it’s nerf to cover up the nerf that we noticed while another nerf was being slipped in, but let’s be a bit more positive about this.

What other class can claim such a high level of energy has been expended on it’s one signature (now sadly ignored) spell.

when-turtles-fly

The global economy is in a meltdown, and so are our skills.

Alright enough crap comparisons to the economy, I will stick to crap commentary on WoW.

On of the things I have found recently is how devalued certain skills have become.  I was reminded of this the other day by Part Time Druid, and also by someone else that now escapes me (although Big Bear Butt’s discussion about 360 tanking made me /cry a little inside). Oh found another one from Tobold Seen any sheeps lately?

It just seems that in an effort to make everything playable by everyone, it is all becoming quite… well a bit plain.  Sort of like pre-work life when Granny gave you $5 in your Christmas card and you couldn’t contain your enthusiasm… then you get a job, and you start to look sideways at the stingy old bag (bless her soul – you warlocks keep your filthy soul shards of it!).  Now in reality there is the same emotion and even power behind the gift of the cash (or skill/spell etc), but you can’t help but feeling let down.

AoE

Back before WoLK hit the shops, just before that is, when the 3.0 changes came out, I was jumping from Thunder Bluff in joy.. AoE as a fire Mage became sooo much fun.  It was new and powerful.  Blizzard told us it would be much more important, we couldn’t imagine how AoE was going to make us the Kings & Queens of DPS, but for the time being it was just pure Win! All MY Top Blogs in the one place

alltop

I have mentioned AllTop before, on a couple of occasions if memory serves me correct.

Basically it aggregates all sorts of feeds in one place, including WoWBlogs.

There is exciting news coming from AllTop, you can now create MyAllTop.. well, I guess YourAllTop, although you are welcome to check out my sample page.

Basically the idea is you register at AllTop, then you can pick all the feeds from AllTop that you want to follow, no matter what category, and build your own page.  This might be a smattering of WoW Blogs… I better be there! as well as some Frivolous real World feeds.

Anyway, you can check out the new features at AllTop.com, and sign up if the fancy takes you.

or Check out My AllTop Mage Blog page

Remember, if a Blog you know and love isn’t present, you can also suggest it to them!

summoning-imp2Know your Twinks?

Want to write about it?

There have been thousands of readers through here in the last couple of weeks interested in twinking.

Twinking, as you can tell if you have read any of the rest of my blog, is not my main game, but maybe it’s yours.

So if you think you can write an original post (or more) about twinking Locks (or any class for that matter) at level 19 (or any of the other brackets) then drop me a line via the ContactGnome link above.

I get a pile of Google hits from people looking for twinking guides. Not just level 19 lock guides, but all levels and classes. So far all I have been able to deliver is the partially complete 19 Lock guide.

So if you have a passion for twinking, and would like to turn your hand at writing without the fuss and bother of creating and maintaining your own blog, then drop me a line.

You will receive the same reward for your writing as me, nothing but pleasure at seeing your posts appreciated. You will of course get full credit for your work.

Your posts would need to be well thought out and preferably take the potential twink by the hand, guiding them step by step through the leveling process, identifying the dangers, quests, routes and rewards. Gear, skill, talent and strategy guides for the prospective twink would be a bonus.

Have a think about it, research it if need be, then drop me a line.

Neutral Auction Houses

I was just listening to the hot tub edition #138 of The Instance and a question came up about why there are no Auction Houses in Shattrath or Dalaran.

Their answer, one I have heard many times before:

Because Blizzard wants people to continue to return to the Old World and it ensures life in quality but otherwise forgotten content.

But… But…

What about the Neutral Auction Houses. (more…)

Drawing the short straw: Racial Bonuses

I feel sorry for Gnomes, Draenei, Taurens and Blood elf.  Primarily Gnomes of course!

Why?
They have a racial bonus taken up with something completely useless… profession racial bonuses.

Let’s take a look.

  • Gnome
    * Engineering Specialist : 15 point skill bonus to Engineering (note, this also raises the cap by 15 at each level of Engineering).
  • Draenei
    * Gemcutting : 5 point skill bonus to Jewelcrafting (note, this also raises the cap by 5 at each level of jewelcrafting).
  • Tauren
    * Cultivation : 15 point skill bonus to Herbalism (note, this also raises the cap by 15 at each level of herbalism).
  • Blood elf
    * Arcane Affinity : 10 point skill bonus to Enchanting (note, this also raises the cap by 10 at each level of enchanting).

Yes yes, I hear you Forsaken, Trolls, Orcs, Night elves, Humans and Dwarves screaming out:

If you don’t want +5 to 15 to your skills, then we will take it!

Well, I am of a good mind to just give it to you… actually, you are welcome to my Gnome Engineering skill, cause it’s worth diddly squat to me!
