Gnomeaggedon: What? Hunh? Did you hear the news, BRK has left the building!
Brain: What do you care, you are a Mage writing Mage Blog
Gnomeaggedon: Yeah, but this is BRK!
Brain: /Scoff. You don’t even have a Hunter!
Gnomeaggedon: Yes I do, Snowdabow was my first toon!
Brain: Much loved too. When was the last time you played him?
Gnomeaggedon: Ummm 2 servers and 2 releases ago…
Brain: Yeah, see unloved.
Gnomeaggedon: Hey I love Snowdabow, it’s just back in those days I was fighting an uphill battle against the Huntard label. I knew what I was doing, I even wrote how to play Hunters on the Guild forums.
Brain: So you shelved your hunter because others were so bad, but you were so good?
Gnomeaggedon: Well, no. But BRK’s blog wasn’t born back there, an it was hard work keeping up. Along came a major change to Hunters and a server move by all my friends, so Snowdabow was retired.
Brain: But you still love your Hunter….
Gnomeaggedon: You bet, Here Brain look at this…

Gnomeaggedon: See, I love him so much that I have kept him in Halloween gear (just like Pugnacious Priest – and I have another one in Halloween gear too!), and not this last Halloween either, that bat outfit is years old. I still check in on him every month or so… don’t ask me why. Just long enough to say hello to him and Altas, not so long that he looses his bat costume.
Brain: That’s a scruffy dog with your hunter. Couldn’t do better?
Gnomeaggedon: Better? Better than Atlas. My 1st pet, named by my wife, with me from the first day I could tame beasts. Sure he’s old, but scruffy isn’t fair!
Brain: Whatever, you won’t even notice BRK’s absence.
Gnomeaggedon: No, no I will miss BRK. BRK is more than a Hunter Blog, more than an institution. He is, or was, an awesome presence in the WoW Blogsphere. I will sorely miss him, but kudos to him for setting the right priorities – I know first hand how difficult that can be… maybe I should follow his excellent example.
Brain: Queue 21 gun salute!
Gnomeaggedon & his brain will miss Big Red Kitty and his brain very much… Take care… live well & long!

i never had a hunter, but i listened to BRK’s podcasts, watched his excellent videos, and read his blog. i will miss him, but i know he made the right choice for the right reasons. still, the WoW community is going to feel his absence.
from his very first video, i’ve been saying: “i wish there was a BRK for every class — or at least just the mages!” i want high-rez videos explaining in detail the intricacies of our class in a fun way. i want a mage-specific podcast. you do a fantastic job representing we fire mages in the blogosphere, but i know that doing BRK-style content is a huge commitment, and i won’t ask you to do any of that. i just wish that…SOMEone would.
also, in an unrelated note (since i’m already posting here)… what do you say about the whole “dual spec” excitement? i have guildies asking me what my dual spec will be, and i always say, “meh — i think mine will be fire/fire.” — i really don’t see any reason, as a mage, to be that excited about dual spec. am i crazy? i suppose i could do a deep frost build, just to have it on hand when fire doesn’t work for me (and there *are* some times, which is why i keep my frostbolt and blizzard spells up to date), but other than that? meh. gimme fire, and lots of it. maybe a PvE fire spec, and a PvP fire spec, if there is such a thing? i dunno… your thoughts, oh green-haired one?
I loved this post, very well done & BRK-esq.
@Prelimar: Defintely the right choice… I have been considering something similar myself. I reached that point late last year before going O/A, but worked through it… to the detriment of my family. I have been thinking about it again… but want to hit at least one more major milestone… and in reality, the blog scratches an itch that I can’t otherwise scratch… no need to panic just yet.
BWF? (Big White Frostie).. but yeah.. huge commitment & the tools to boot. I remember back when he was playing with the concept initially…
Still for some reason, Mages are getting a bit of a run on podcasts lately (Moar QQ?), so as much as I would love a little more, I doubt I would have time to watch/listen to it, let alone produce it.
Duel Spec? I wrote a post on it a while back… OK it was a GoogledGnome, so not serious in the least… Dual Spec. Personally I want the features without the 1,000g outlay. I change specs so rarely that as long as I can record a second spec with Glyphs, I would be happy.. so charge me 300g upfront and I will pay for the rest.
That said I will probably fork out the 1,000g. What to do with it… I don’t know… maybe 2xFire-ish specs… 1 for raids one for fun (grinding or PvP).. maybe I will finally take the bait Zupa left for me and try frost… not likely, but I am getting a taste for it at the moment with Frostfire… so you never know.
@Arcsis: Thank you… it will never be “The BRK”, but those posts for some reason tickled my fancy more than most… especially the storming the battleground ones.
I started reading blogs because of BRK. My main is a hunter, but I love to read blogs of all types. BRK was always entertaining, the same reason I play WoW. I hope he does return someday and in moderation. Until then, WoW blogging lives on!
Beautiful Brain tribute, one of the best BRK tributes I’ve seen.
You’ve done well.
I too will miss BRK.
I think we should all try our best to do what we can to be to our classes what he was to hunters.

@EvilBeast: Yes WoW Blogging will live on, and there are a host of excellent Hunter blogs out there to fill in some of the gaps… I guess it’s just a case of a personality so big that it can fill the Blogsphere has gone.. like a supernova.
I find it amazing how my BRK has effected other bloggers… Megs and Tuna being two of the examples that are firmly in my mind right now.
@Davlin: Thanks Davlin… I doubt Gnomes Brain will ever do BRK’s brain justice… but that wont stop me trying.
is it really going to cost 1000g to dual spec? O.O!
and megs & tuna’s posts about BRK were great. “…warlocs are supposed to make hunters cry, not the other way around…” — SNIFF! that’s one of the most awesome things i’ve read in relation to this. it had BETTER not be an april fool’s day joke. the post up at his site today (march 31), though, is curious…
Prelimar: Yeah the 1k gold is for real… be interesting to see if they scale up the cost of the third spec if they do introduce that (similar to bank slots).
BRK is for real…
Ohh and there is a secret project underway re: BRK… if you don’t know about it already, drop me a line via ContactGnome and I will send you the details if you are interested.
thanks for the offer re: the top secret project. let’s just say that i am already up to speed. ; )
