Wait, don’t go away just yet…
OK, this has nothing at all to do with Mages, Gnomes or WoW.
This is all to do with arguably the greatest game on earth… (and yes ladies, there is something for you in this too!)
Aussie Rules Football
The A.F.L. have just released this seasons advertisement… and I must say I love it.
If you haven’t seen Aussie rules yet, but enjoy a bit of sport on the side, then see if you can find a listing for some matches on your local “cable” T.V. I fear that you may only get to see the big game in September (which for some unknown reason tends to be the biggest let down game of the season), but if you do come across a game, then check it out. If it isn’t a close high scoring game, then check back in for another one.
If you ever get the chance to come to Australia, then try to grab yourself some tickets to a game
If you manage to both get to Australia and Melbourne, then try to get some
tickets to a game at the “G” (M.C.G.). Get yourself up amongst the 100,000 strong rabid supporters and feel the earth move. Good chance you will be moved to tears whether you follow a particular side or not.
Ohh, and ladies, the bonus for you, is that these guys play the game in some of the skimpiest shorts in any game (maybe bar speedos in swimming).
Anyway, I don’t know if there is a youtube version out there, so go straight to the A.F.L. site and check it out.

Have tickets to the season opener, but unfortunately it is only the second best game on earth – you forgot about rugby union!
CMON THE BRUMBIES IN SOUTH AFRICA THIS WEEKEND
Perhaps there’s a bit of canadian showing in me, but I enjoy a good old game of hockey myself. My Toronto Maple Leafs aren’t exactly going to win the cup anytime soon, but I certainly approve of their efforts to improve the franchise.
LOL I see AFL and think Arizona Fall League, the off-season baseball league for prospects. . .
And I second Krizzlybear, I prefer a good solid game of hockey, I like wearing pads if people are going to try to kill me
@Varth: lol 2nd best game… Union’s good… but not that good… Still, I will lend my support to the Brumbies…
@krizzlybear: Recovered from my trolling….
There’s nothing wrong with you enjoying hockey… assuming it doesn’t conflict with the real game
@Fish: lol, I saw “Arizona Fall League” but read “Arizona FAIL League”.
But seriously… platemail wearing floorsweepers can’t compete with “budgie smuggling” (well almost) gladiators. They punt like Taurens, Fly like Druids, fall like Mages without Slow Fall hotkeyed.
Mind you I think it is probably the only game on earth that awards points for missing the goal…

Thanks for that Rob…
OK folks, you have no excuses not to become hooked… go and discover the magic of Aussie Rools!
Interestingly, AFL players are rated as some of the fittest professional sportsmen in the world, your average midfielder does about 20 kilometres (thats about 12 – 13 miles to the rest of you) in a single game, and also take some pretty heavy hits and spectacular falls without any padding.
Look up the MCG online if you want to see how freaking big an AFL field is, though interestingly Manuka Oval in Canberra is bigger than any of the grounds routinely used for games
@gnomeaggedon: you’re welcome. Any questions, feel free to contact the web site and we’ll try to help. Great game and fun to watch.
[...] At which point I pointed out that rugby is only two of the 5(+) codes of footy we play here. Yes we have Gladiator Rugby Union, Barbarian Rugby League, Gnome kicking soccer, Mattress wearing wuss gridiron and of course the greatest game in the world, Aussie rules. [...]
