This is just a random outflow of things from the last week
Turtle Mount
I was doing the Kalu’ak matchmaking daily on Friday night, when I had to stop and laugh at how silly the big seals look on their turtle mounts.
Next thought was how much more sensible a Gnome polymorph: turtle wielding Mage would look on the back of a turtle.
Then, on Sunday I see this at El’s Extreme Anglin’ and WoWInsider. I must think more positive thoughts, my dreams have been coming so true lately.
WowInsider Crits Gnomeaggedon twice in one week.
In the space of a week, I received two separate links from WoWInsider. Dan first brought my twink guides to wider attention, then followed up with my WoW is like bringing up kids post.
Either Dan has me firmly in his feed reader, or some nice person out there is bringing me to his attention. Either way, thanks.
At this point I am so glad I am not self hosting. If so, I dare say I would have been receiving some emails from a service provider about using my yearly allowance.
Anyway, look at these silly numbers.
Twice as many hits in one day as my best month. Saturday & Sunday stars that are twice the quantity of my previous best weekday. (Another source of stats show that I had 11,766 visitors last week, with 20,020 page views)
Averages totally screwed… (errr I mean skewed)
25% of my all time hits in one week!
Which means that already this “quarter” (with the quarter not even complete yet), I have matched 6-7 months worth of hits. Sure it probably wont last… but I will enjoy it while I can!
On a related note.. I scraped it into WordPress’ Growing blog list for the 10th… Position 91/100, but my 1st entry on this list (for obvious reasons).
Azeroth Advisor
I don’t know how many of you use this service, but it’s worth a look. It was brought to my attention a while back when Lassirra from The Hunter’s Mark started working with them.
I signed up, but being 70 at the time, there weren’t a lot of updates, apart from the occasional map.
However, now I am leveling a toon, I am finding my after play session new bulletin very interesting and useful to boot.
Why hunt madly via Google for the gems on how to play your toon, run instances, enjoy your professions etc, when it can be delivered to your mailbox? If nothing else it’s nice to receive grays for your new level in the mail.
So what sort of stuff do you get?
- Forthcoming skills and talent analysis.

- Instance and raid strategies.

- Grinding locations

- Profession tips

- Detailed Zone maps each time you step into a new zone.
- Event Information

- Lore

- Macros

- Comparison graphs of your stats to others at the same level.

It may not offer a lot to the hard core WoW player, but it will certainly give you something, delivered directly to your inbox. If you don’t consider yourself hardcore, or are raising an alt on the side, then this is definitely worth subscribing to!
Achievements vs. Leveling
A few weeks back one of my mates snapped at me because I was hunting achievements rather than rushing to 80.
This was about the time that I picked up the Ambassador title, which admittedly I went out of my way to get (but I have wanted to be exalted with the Gnomes since rolling Gnomeaggedon, so whatever!). The other achievements that night were just by chance (completing an instance or something).
Now I might not be a Warlock, but I have more than one evil bone in my body (and being an Aussie, I love a good sh&t stir). So since then, I have been working at grabbing a couple of achievements each week that I can announce. Not going out of my way, you understand, just picking off a couple each week.
Anyway, this weekend was a veritable achievement fest. I was aiming for 2, but somewhere along the line, I grabbed 8!
Ohh and just to prove that I wasn’t just slinging sh&t at my mate… I also dinged! Gnomeaggedon is now a level 76 FFB’ing pile of trouble. Freaky part is I still haven’t made it out of the starting zones… and as you can see by the spell power graph above… even without seeing any gear above level 72 (I think I might have equipped 1 or two pieces of gear so far), I am still theoretically ahead of the game.
So to finish this post, the galley of this weeks achievements.
I don’t look happy do I.. let me assure you I was…
I’ve become a Northrend Gourmet! (Yes, yes, apprentice.. but still…)
Me suck in a tree while Exploring Nagrand (I took some other shots, which are below, just for scenic value)
Grabbed my 10th Tabard
I thought it would all stop there.. I was doing pretty well after all…
Finally an acknowledgment of my love of water (if not fishing)
One I expected, but not the other one (as you can tell by the look on my face!)
Did I say 8 Achievements… I meant 9! (Yep for the 1st time ever, I managed to do a daily 5 days in a row…)
Nagrand is beautiful at night…
is it not?
Another Wanted Meme
For all those times that you search through thread after thread after thread looking for that one little gem of knowledge… only to finally discover that there are blogs out there that have all the information your could ever wish for in one easy to read location.

Heheh I haven’t been actively seeking out achievements consistently but I am slowly starting to accrue more of them..
The first time I saw the Kaluaks, I was like, “the Walrus people!!” and I fell in love with them =)
They were the first reputation I got to exalted in WotLK…
The huge turtle ship and the kamekame (sp?) riders are soo cute, I’m glad I’m not the only one that enjoyed this.
Grats on all your achievements. I’m still in the process of leveling up my fishing =X
Grats on those visitor numbers and on all of those achievements! You’ve got a whole bunch of those that I’m still missing, even though I’ve been 80 for ages by now. It’s definitely not about what level you have, it’s about dedication.
A small remark about the author of The Hunters mark: I think she’s called Lassirra and nothing else. You’re mixing her up with a certain gnome…
Cheers!
@ HP: I am a bit suss on the Walrus people… you will see in part why in a post later today… But yeah, the way things are heading, they will be my 1st Exalted WoLK faction… once again, this afternoon’s post will explain that in more depth.
But really, between tracking down lost lunch boxes, stealing cubs and assisting in mating (sans rubber glove thank the gods), I am not really sure about this faction.
@ LaRiSa: Thanks for the Grats.. I am not sure if it’s about dedication, or lack of direction (in a straight line anyway). I would already be at 80 if I had a straighter path I think.. although not sure if I would be out of the starting areas yet…
Thanks also for the heads up on LaSSiRRa rather than the now edited out Larrissa… Guess I type you name too often, and I went into back of brain mode.
Oh.. and notch up one more achievement… caught my 100th fish this morning (which chatting to LaRiSa what’s more)
It’s ok to wander a bit, it just means you’ve had more fun on the journey.
i’ve been trying to use azeroth advisor since last fall, and i can’t get it to work! i’ve made an account, uninstalled and reinstalled several times, even exchanged a half-dozen emails with tech support before giving up. i can’t figure it out. by all accounts, i am doing everything right, but it just won’t work for me. : (
glad to hear you have it working, though. it seems like a great thing for us casual-types.
oh, and congrats on the cooking achievements. i’ve been doing the shatt daily for weeks, trying to get the chocolate cake recipe and a couple others, and so far, NUTHIN’! just a bank alt with a bank full of meat & fish, sigh….
@Creep: Wandering is 50% of the fun. I just know, based on 2 previous versions of WoW, that once I hit 80, it will be 5.5 hours of instances and raiding, and 30 minutes of “me” time. So I best get some “me” time now.
@prelimar:
re: Azeroth Advisor: Sounds like I have been lucky. I have been going for the automatic upload, although recently have been turning the external mod off until leaving WoW, then prompting it to upload.
re: “chocolate cake recipe”. I am prepared to swear on whatever a Gnome considers holy (a wrench maybe) that I got the choc cake a long time ago. I only ever did the Shat cooking dailies once or twice, and I am sure I got it… I remember talking to a mate about it…
But come time to cook it up & it isn’t in my cookbook.. Dalaran coughed it up on about my 8th cooking quest… so I am not complaining too loudly (although I was for quest 1-7)
Speaking of turtle mounts, I really need to work on my fishing if I want a shot at the one coming in the patch! And boy were you busy knockin’ out those achievements!
And I think I’ll have to check out the Azeroth Advisor. It has piqued my curiosity.
@Syrana: Mmmm yeah, good point… I am only 180 points of max fishing… damn, that’s like 3 years of fishing right there… Assuming I live long enough in Org…
