Klepsacovic suggests it might be Warlock Envy (alright.. any class envy) when Larisa was thinking of new Mage spells, but I also think that instead of the odd new polymorph skin or icon change as a Mage buff, we should be receiving some new and interesting spells.
Now these are just some really rough ideas, thrown quickly into my blog editor, I expect that Blizzard could polish these up, and you wise readers out there could come up with other suggestions.
Here are mine… give me yours!
Frost
Snowplough
3 minute cooldown
You shoot ahead 30 yards knocking back any mobs in your path. These mobs are now stuck in your snowdrift for 2 seconds. Acts as a daze effect.
Icebridge
10 minute cooldown
Ice shoots forth under the feet of the Mage. Horizontal and vertical direction of the path are controlled in the same manner as flaying mounts.
The bridge is usable by anyone close and fast enough to traverse it in 20 seconds. A second Mage can continue where the 1st Mage left off.
Snowballs
Throwing snowballs to encase your opponent in snow, turning them into a snowman. Acts as a 5 second snare before they melt. Target has “Frosty the Snowman” ringing through their speakers.
Fire
Fire shooter (fire arcane missiles)
Think fireworks with a punch. Similar to Arcane Missiles, but launched at random aggro’d mobs.
Firewall
A 10yard radius firewall springs up around caster. All attacks through flames cause opponent damage and apply threat to their current target. So if the mobs are hitting the tank when the firewall goes up, they continue hitting the tank, through the mistaken belief that the tank is the cause of all their misery.
Arcane
Arcane rolla-bubble
Creates a large bubble around caster allowing them to roll over insubstantial surfaces ie. Water. Laws of gravity apply, so if cast on a slope, the bubble will roll down hill.
Lock & ‘llusion
Duration: Permanent
Turns the Mage into a Warlock (Purely for Elleiras’ & Syrana‘s benefit).
Fire becomes Destro (A Destro lock is just a wanna be fire Mage anyway right?), Frost becomes Demonology (cause they love their pets), Arcane becomes Affliction. Not sure about the duration, but maybe we can have a corresponding skill in the Warlock spell book to allow the change to Mage (mmmm maybe not, then one whole class would disappear out of the game).

Lock & Illusion… I like it! /cackle
I also like the Frosty the Snowman idea to go with the snowballs… get back at all them trainsets!
@ Syrana: glad you like it… it was just for you!
As for annoying sounds/lyrics in the background… I think we should have more of it… no really.. it would really help with people’s wowddictions…
Maybe Blizzard should come out with a selfhelp cd/itunes download. One that just plays all the annoying sound bites. Then people could listen to them all day on their mp3 players and get over WoW in as little as one session…

I still like the idea of a familair. Some sort of vanity pet with a buff or ability of some kind. Could either have 1 for each spec, or the mage would have to choose a mostly permanent one, kind of like the cloth specialzations.
For example, get the eagle familiar and the buff is either a passive steath detection, or an eye of kilrogg type ability.
@Jesse: queue next weeks post. I have some ideas along that line. The draft has been sitting about for a while, so I will pull my finger out and get it to you!
