People often say Mages are redundant.
Tree Hugger Dave has several drafts explaining why the “Deli” Class is no longer necessary.
Food - Any Gnome and their dog can now make a feast.
Water - As above, and why wouldn’t you get drunk to boot?
Dps - what DPS? Hunter’s non-combat pets do more dps
Poly - Frogs anyone (I must admit I recently discovered I had been replaced as the CC of choice in favor of the Shaman.
I, on the otherhand, would like to suggest that Druids are redundant.
Why?
Read on!
They heal.
Who doesn’t!
Priests heal. Shamans heal. Pallies heal. Geez, even I can heal with a few bandages, pots and Evocate.
They do ranged dps.
Shhh, so do Mages, Hunters, Warlocks and that was what we rolled to do.
They have crowd control.
What like hunter traps, Shaman frogs, Warlock seduce or even Mage polymorph?
They do melée dps.
Leave that to the rogues. God knows they have enough trouble justifying their existance without you taking their raid spot. Let’s not forget Warriors, Pallies and Death Knights!
They tank.
Isn’t that what Warriors were born to do? Pallies, Death Knights, Shamans, even Hunter Pets, they all do the same thing, maybe even better (I like to think that a Hunter bear pet is as good as a tattood Druid.)
Stop Work!
You see to me, they disadvantage all the other classes in the game. They come to Northrend, take our women, take our jobs.
When the rest of us had to make a decision about how to play the game and what roll we would fill, Druids decided to steal it all from us, at will, any time after rolling their toons.
There should be a demarcation, let’s not let Druids take our place.
They want to heal or tank, let them struggle to level. They want to do ranged dps, let them be squishy. They want to backstab, then for all that is holy don’t let them do any other thing except pick locks.
Let’s increase toon employment opportunities by shunning the Hybrid.
Let’s take some inspiration from RL Druids…
Now many RL people like to think that RL society has advanced. So where are all the Druids? Oh yeah, the priests exterminated them (with the Shamans, but hey, we can live without them too).
I think it’s time to rise up and insist that Blizzard removes the Druid class. Let the Druids make their choice: healing; tanking; ranged or melée dps. Then next time they log in, they get to pick an appropriate class.
Gnomer and Out!

Leyola: Seems to me someone doesn’t like druids very much.
Bashertin: It’s ok, Ley. Think of it as a gnomish eccentricity! I’m quite positive! I’ll bet my sprockets on it!
Wimzig: If you need him killed, druid…
*Bashertin Polymophs Wimzig*
Bashertin: None of that, Wimzig.
*Leyola sighs*
Did you ever PvP much at 70? Were you traumatised by the experience of you, as a mage, trying to kill that lol-HoTs, unsheepable, hiding-behind-pillars druid?
Did you receive a soft-toy, only to find it was in a voluptuous Night-elven druidess, with flowing green tresses…
Well, whatever the cause of this deeply emotional outburst, let me reassure you. Druids suffer for their skills. Since day one Tauren druids have had to bear their depressing should-not-have-made-it-into-beta open-mouthed fur-rug catform model. Weep, and know great sorrow.
Thought it was worth having a lend of Tree Hugger Dave… mind you I copped a bit on Friday night after he read the draft…
Actually the thing I have always hated about druids is the huge behind on the bear…. One day I am going to learn how to look around it… both when playing one and when trying to dps past one
hahaha nice post.
I actually have retired my 70 mage and have not played him since LK.
@Gnomer:
You think the huge behind is a problem? Try tanking with that behind taking up your whole screen (think narrow enclosed spaces, pulls around corners etc)
Ohh yeah been there, done that…
I used to swipe tank… not because there were multiple mobs, but just in the hope that I would hit something I couldn’t see.
Time to put those druids on a diet….
Blah blah blah….sounds like a bad case of druid envy to me…:)
Druids roll on my gear now even when resto specced….”there isnt any spirit…why do you want it”
whats this insane AOE speel they have that pulls the hole room and how come they can stack it with there other Aoe spells?
How come druids can res everyone
why have they given Nelfs the ability to shadow meld in combat
Its not fair….i want my vanilla wow back
In reality i reckon the homogenisation of classes needs some further work. I can remember the good old days that you had to be a horde to play a druid.. Alas times have changed
At the moment druid’s point of difference is the fact we can battle res a fallen allie…Mages point of difference is the fact you can taxi us around…..don’t worry the training standards are keeping some demarcation on this…..it’s not people who have no other career opportunities can pick it it up as a job at the moment….if its like RL taxis it won’t be long before horde players will be able to ferry me about for half the price
Its not the differences between our classes that divides its the similarities other classes have to the almighty druidness that unite us
BTW that thing dangling in the grass when i’m in bear form isn’t a trinket
Also you missed the obvious: druids have the best dances
And for bear tanking Noggenfoggin is a must-have
Actually I think the bear dance is the best dance in the game… I remember when that was introduced… I was dancing everywhere in bear form….
Why can’t Mages “spew magic” while they dance?
Bah. No other class brings the Twist to a raid. What would we do without the dance?
