Keep it, trash it, sell it?
So two months down the track in WoLK, I have just joined the game with bank and bags full of old world enchanting mats (and other misc rubbish).
So should I dump it all in a world economic crash style, or will the time come in the next couple of months where like linen and wool people are prepared to pay 4 times a sensible rate to power level their professions?
Ohhh and thanks dear readers for putting up with question posts for this 1st week… I do have some plans for something without questions, but it is nice to know that there are some many people out there prepared to help a slow Gnome!
Gnomer and Out!

This my diminutive friend depends on storage space.
Being a “chinese farmer” my bags, banks and bank toon guild bank were full of BC stuff.
When playing BC old world stuff was insanely overpriced and i thought the same would happen with BC stuff in Wolk.
On our server i have seen little evidence to date.
I needed the space so I sold. Actually a friends’s bank alt sold for me…sick of seeing our guild bank cluttered with BC crap.
My gut reaction is BC prices will rise.
My reason for this is:
- Wolk prices are coming down from their giddy heights… people will start capping and gearing up so the market for WOLK enchants, BOE gear and the mats to build them, will level off.
- People can still make heaps doing dailies and finishing of the quests when capped
- eventually rich mains will funnel money to poor alts.
- even though i see no reason to be a crafter people still love it and crazy ppl will pay crazy prices to level toons in crafting.
- the number DK’s moving through BC are going to plateau and decline so BC mats available will begin to decline
So if space is an issue i’d set your warehouse alight with a fireball and claim it on insurance. Or just have a fire sale on AH.
otherwise wait for prices to rise..might be 3-12 months but i reckon it will happen
just my thoughts
Over on my server, BC mats’ prices actually went up for a while. I’d suggest keeping some of ‘em around – see what happens.
Personal experience? I sold a bunch of Greater Planar Essences for more than their BC-era pricing. Definitely worth looking into.
Gems, on the other hand, crashed hard on my server. You may want to get rid of them as soon as you can, depending on your server’s economy.
I would get rid of them personally but i dont like things hanging around.
If you kept them you would probably get more gold but you would have to sell it bit by bit.
Depends. I can only say for Greater Planar Essence and Arcane Dust the price went up a little like Velinath said, but I expect that’ll drop after the mat requirements of the new enchants are lowered. When I first hit 80 I was still using old BC enchants to initially enchant gear as I didn’t have the mats for new enchants and refused to pay the prices for them at that time.
Whatever you do, don’t wait too long. Sure alts might buy them up for quick profession leveling, but eventually that’ll dry up too.
Sell.
Gold isn’t worth as much these days, but bag-space is. Liquidate whatever you don’t want to bank.
Once the initial waves of DKs finish with BC-content, the supply of DE-ing greens will dry up quickly. Remember Illusion dust during BC content?
I am a wow pack rat, but I have tons of alts. I find I normally end up using a lot of the stuff, and I have a whole tab full of characters to hold stuff.
For you, I dunno, if you’re only going to sell it now or sell it later, sell it now, just to ease the clutter. . .
