I have the interface from hell.
Years of choosing and discarding mods until I have the functionality I desire have left my screen cluttered and confusing.
This is the real reason I play a Gnome, at least I can see a little bit of WoW real estate.
Back in the days when I toyed with complete interfaces they were fraught with hours of configuration and incompatible addons. By the time I would get it barely functioning a new WoW patch would come out and I was back to square one.
I know things have improved, but I have never found the time to research, download and configure one, for one character, let alone the half dozen I check up on from time to time.
So I am putting out the call to my readers.
- What do you use and why?
- Can I download it from somewhere and install it in 30-60 minutes?
- Is it easily configurable?
- Will it handle the raft of macros I live and die by?
- Will it allow a Tauren to run about and see more than the curve of it’s horns?
I know there is way to “fool” WoW into thinking it really has less realestate for the display of the landscape, while still allowing the display of toolbars etc… what/how?
I use a truck load of macros… I pretty much modify most spells I cast… so need to be able to put macros in rather than stock standard blizzard icons… which I guess means I am looking for an action bar replacement as well…
Here is a list of addons I currently use. Are they (or their equivalent) catered for?
“Must haves” (like them, or something like them, but preferably them):
- Auctioneer Advanced.
- Cartographer
- CT_MailMod / MailTo/ Postal/ Postman

- Quartz
- QuestGuru

Nice to haves (or, I will install them no matter how bad the interface ends up looking… probably)

Gnomer and Out!
Edit: Ohhh… I did find the Fiery Assult UI for Mages last night while checking out A Mage’s Guide to Life but the probelm is screen resolution, so I don’t know whether it is easily configurable….

“This is the real reason I play a Gnome, at least I can see a little bit of WoW real estate.” <- lulz
That’s a lot of addons :S
I’m getting along fine with:
Omen (mostly for OT’ing and throwing Salv around)
Recount (for optimising rotations and stroking e-peen)
BarTender4 (very good for managing hotkeys, and having different bars appear in different stances etc, and very nice for moving stuff around the UI)
Grid (for raid healing)
Outfitter (for managing the 6 or so sets my druid and paladin use)
Proximo (only for arena)
RatingsBuster (mostly for item level)
Stuff I’ve dispensed with as my computer has slowed down:
)
Auctioneer (have a reasonable memory for prices and values, not really interested in bargain hunting)
Cartographer (should really replace this for coords and instance maps, but it was buggy)
Questhelper (played through content enough, and like to find my own way
Lootlink (just broke at some point)
And a few others I can’t remember
all i can for sure recommend is Cryolysis3 — it’s mage only for now — and it’s made my life so much easier, and my screen real estate much better. i’m also using fubar, but since i just switched over to it a few weeks ago i can’t remember all the things i ended up adding in to that. suffice to say, though, that between the two of them i’m a much happier fire-tossin’ mage.
Tip for increasing screen realestate – turn town your UI Scale. If you go to Video, it’s in the first tap, towards the bottom right. Mine is turned down all the way, makes my life a lot easier.
I started to use Spartan UI again – keeps everything down the bottom of your screen and so far it has enough bars for me to have everything to hand. http://www.spartanui.com is the website I think!
I use that and a lot of other addons like Cartographer, Omen, Questhelper, Auctioneer advanced, DBM, outfitter and SO many more, and it doesn’t cause any problems that I’ve come across so far.
I see that Softi reccomended Spartan UI, and it’s what I use too, I’ve also seen Matticus post screenies with it as well. I’ve had no real issues with it and it keeps everything tucked into the bottom of the screen. I added Fubar, IceHUD and Scrolling Combat Text to it, along with Quest Helper, Healbot, Recount, Omen, and decursive. All in all its not too bad. http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7221-SpartanUI.html
Hope you love it.
Thanks for the suggestions… considering my nigglying worries about hitting 71, maybe I will try setting it up this Friday and see how I come out…
