I’m excited!!!
Being a Queenslander and a fan of tropical shirts please excuse my ‘Big Kev‘ quote (rest his tidy soul) but I find no other words for how I feel about playing through my first expansion pack whilst its new and fresh to everyone.
My orc warlock had hung up his soul shard bag long before BC came out so I have never seen one of these.
Taking a leaf from Gnomer’s book I did some reading and research on what the imminent release was going to be like.
I had read about general chaos with the release of BC.
Originally I tried to think logically.
I was thinking when everyone loads WoLK they will all jump over to Northrend and grind there mains to 80 as hard as they can.
There will be
- major overcrowding,
- server instability,
- no resources untapped to level mining and herbing,
- all of the quest mobs will be obliterated from the tundra in a mass extinction on par with a meteorite strike
- people will be tagging quests mobs like the people who rip through the Myers New Year day sales
SoI was thinking “Do I rush onto the boat with the rest of the migrating lemmings or do I hold back for a little bit?” I have a stack of quests in outland to complete. So I’m was thinking that maybe its time to stay there and complete those quests until the crowd thins out a little. I’ll get some XP from them, the competitive side of me gets the achievement and by the time I hit the tundra the masses will have thinned out.
So what did I do?
I answered the inner voice of the new content calling “right about now, the funk soul brother. check it out now, the funk soul brother” and I packed up for a cruise to the great northern land.
And I don’t regret it one little bit.
I must say I think blizzard has outdone themselves.
- The worlds are beautiful.
- The quests are interesting.
- The servers are mainly stable.
I got tied up with a server migration the first 3 days of wrath then went on a holiday for a week. I am just about to hit 74, have almost capped out herbing and going great on mining, cooking and first aid. Sure there are queues to get in and hordes of people tagging mobs but the respawn rate being scalable with population has meant that its pretty much a great time.
With the achievements I have found i have been playing a little differently. I have been doing all of the quests and exploring all of the areas before exiting. Quests that previously I would’ve stopped doing because of how mundane they were I now have a reason for completing.
I think I’ll hit 80 long before I finish the quests. I have knocked off 4 levels and have only finished 1 and a bit regions.
I’m working very hard on getting my new fishing rod with the Kalu’ak rep. (see how easily the dailies slip back in
)
Having gone through periods of almost quitting WOW for a second time all I can say is I’m glad I have got to see this. Northrend is testament to how much Blizzards game design has improved. Go back to the old worlds and look around the difference is amazing. Maybe vanilla wow needs a face lift.
I just cant wait to try the 10 man raids. Back to the good old days of curator black hole. I thinks its time we recruit 2 more regulars
THD

I am the same actually, im pleasantly surprised that the places are not too overcrouded.
We do have the odd day where there is major DC’s.
