What cheeses me off
There is one thing about patches that really cheeses me off.
- It’s not that we get new content buffs or nerfs – that’s what the patch is about right?
- It’s not that “our” mods are broken, what do you expect when the software that they interact with has been radically changed, and the addon developers are writing their mods in their spare time and releasing them to the public out of the goodness of their hearts.
No the thing that cheeses me off is the “9,990,000″ ungrateful players of WoW. The ones that aren’t happy that things have changed. This is revealed in a few different forms.
- Bring back classic WoW (soon to be augmented by the bring back TBC whingers.
- The my mod is broken whingers.
- The I want the old mod whingers.
Bring back classic WoW (soon to be augmented by the bring back TBC whingers.
Note, this isn’t directed at roleplayers that want to continue in a pristine classic WoW environment.
This is directed at those “who moved my cheese” players, that want WoW to exist as it did at the time of WoW 1.0…. ohhh except without the bugs.
These are the people that want the buffs, but not the nerfs.
These are the people that don’t want to change their interface, not even to drag a new spell to their tool bar (you do do that right, you don’t cast spells from your spellbook).
To them I say, get over yourself!
Change is good, it adds spice with the new skills. Sure you will have to learn some new tricks, maybe, shock… gasp, do some research into your new gameplay, but in a month you will complain when Blizz nerfs that new feature you hate so much now.
The my mod is broken whingers.
Go write one yourself, make it bigger and better, make it patch proof – then you won’t need to expend energy abusing other people that have given up their precious playtime to do something more than selfishly play.
If the mod developer is still active in WoW, and still actively developing their mod, you can be assured that they are trying to figure out how the new patch has affected their mod, how the interaction with the other 50 mods you have installed on your PC (that they may never have heard of) is breaking their mod.
So if you have a issue with the performance of their mod, positively report the symptoms that you are experiencing, then either patiently wait, of better yet, actively participate in testing the mod to help them out.
Don’t whinge and bitch about how the mod is stopping you playing the game. If you need the mod that much, then you are playing the mod, not WoW.
The I want the old mod whingers.
I see this a lot on the Auctioneer forums. At this point I should point out that I have no relationship with Auctioneer or the developers other than being a user of Auctioneer. Sure I have reported a few bugs, and suggested some new enhancements in the past, but that’s about it.
What I hate more than the “auctioneer is broken fix it noobs”, or “auctioneer stole my money” posts are the constant, I want Auctioneer Classic” back posts. Times have changed, AC wasn’t meant to work with TBC, but the developers (unfortunately I think) continued to support it, reducing the time they could have spent developing AA.
Yes it’s different. Yes it is more complex. Yes it required a learning curve. But hell, it’s better.
If you don’t like it, don’t use it, there are other options out there, and if you don’t like them, build your lua skills fast and start writing your own mods.
Just for god’s sake, don’t slag off the developers!
Gnomer and Out!

Heres what i cant live with
I can live with the lag…new content needs new code..new code is by its nature untried and often creates issues server side
I can live with the queues to get in… every man and his dog wants to get in and have a look
I can live with the ridiculous economy….after all speculation is fun
I can live with needing to find new addons to make my n52TE work…BTW anyone now a bar mod that will give me a button array 5*3????
I can live with the Achievement spam…apparently i can turn it off in my settings…will look into that.
I can live with the whole how to spec.
What i cant live with is the lazy arse freakshows who yell “where in the city do u get ur haircut” just ask a guard like the rest of us did….I think maybe they are ebay 70s
ZOMG! I so so so so agree!!! I am a casual player of WoW and have only been playing for the past 12 months, and enjoy spending time reading blogs and related sites also, but only visit forums when searching for specifics.
In my brief experience I can say that I am thoroughly impressed by the developers of mods and addons, who spend their time as you say working on these programs without any financial payment by the users of those addons.
And I am equally appalled by some of the feedback that people are prepared to send to these guys when things don’t go their way. So inconsiderate! Ugh!
I feel sorry for the poor guys that do Auctioneer, as I too had trouble with the new version, and spent a lot of time on their site finding answers, and having to work it out. I got to read a lot of feedback from players, mostly critical as you mention, and felt amazed.
The good news is that all that idiotic feedback has inspired me to donate to the Auctioneer crew, to help support them. Lets face it, thanks to their mods, my gold is now almost 3K, and my main has only just passed Level 60.
