GoogledGnome #21
(stupid iPhone ate my post)
Attempt two.
There are only two costs you could be referring to about this enchant:
- The cost of mats, or
- The cost of the tip to your enchanter.
It can’t be the cost if the formula, as this is a BoP drop, so no grinding the AH for the formula.
So cost of mats.
This is all dependent on whether you have any in the bank, or have a friendly enchanter to DE drops or grind the AH for items to DE.
The cost of mats will vary per server, so log on with your calculator at your side. (On Aman’Thul it was about 220 gold worth, but since the shards have plummeted in price, this should be cheap)
Whatever the cost of the mats it is relatively cheap. Plus 40 to all your spell damage schools, no matter what your spell – can’t fail.
You can read an older post of mine for more details.
The cost of the tip to your enchanter.
OK, let’s set something straight from the beginning, tip is a misnomer. This is a payment for services rendered.
When you buy pots, bags etc from the AH you don’t pay a tip, because the crafted has built the “tip” into the price you pay. An enchanter can’t do that because the deal is face to face.
So what is a good amount to pay for the service?
Some suggest 10-20% of the may cost. I tend to give 5g for <300 enchants and 10-20g for higher level enchants.
Consider when counting your coppers what went into the enchanter doing your enchant.
- It’s one of the most expensive professions to level (only beaten by blacksmithing).
- All those quest rewards you cashed in at the vendor, the enchanter blew on the next hopeful point in enchanting – no profit there.
- All that time spent grinding for recipes, no discoveries in enchanting. It took me 6-12 hours to grind this recipe (600g-1200g+ worth of daily time). It has taken me 10 months of running Kara (and one missing enchanter and one generous enchanter) for me to get the Sunfire enchant – 240 hours!)
- All that time spent knowing the enchants and mats you want.
- All that time waiting, traveling, spamming trade chat. Sure some of these people are often trying to get more points – but they aren’t making a profit. If they wanted a profit they would drop enchanting and gather or do dailies.
- Which brings me to my final point, while soon your enchant, they aren’t doing their thing – playing the fun part of the game and making money.
So when it comes to paying for enchants, pay well! Whether the enchanter is a stranger of guildy, pay well – it is appreciated!
Gnomer and Out!

This was another post in the continuing exploration of how people reach Armaggedons Coming via Google. As usual, plese feel free to comment or ignore

This will change now, since the enchanters can enchant inscripted parchments and sell these on AH. So the work cost will be included.
