<< Ducking and Weaving – Fire #6
So Larisa is OOM, last Arcane Blast thrown, bouncing about as only a Gnome can watching the pretty lights (scrolling combat text) that Arcane Explosion provides.
Yet, she is smelling something in the wind, is that sulphur, is that the smell of an incoming fire spec?
TBC talents come to an end tomorrow, one last chance to enjoy your old talent tree. Tomorrow brings a new day, WoLK trees and all the wonders or nerfs they can bring.
So the battle draws to an end, the time that a fire spec really shines, the last 20% of the fight us when a Fire Mage brings the numbers that the Frost and Arcane Mages were gloating about in the 1st 30 seconds of the fight.
Hear their early cries of damage meter victory turn to cries of dismay and defeat as the fire Mage packs on the last minute dps.
Yeah, assuming you dodged the random environmental attacks, that your pocket healer is still upstanding and HoTing, assuming you used your mana gems and pots wisely, you evocated at the right time and cleared your threat with Invisibility earlier…
Now is the time to pop those trinkets and Icy Veins (if so spec’d), roar to the top of the damage charts and quite possibly take home the extra satisfaction of the killing blow.
A quick run down of the talents I have run out of time to show you…
Well this one is changing in WoLK, but you wouldn’t leave hom without it as a raiding Fire Mage in TBC.
Well we ARE the MASTERS of the ELEMENTS – refunded Mana.. ohh joy!
That’s what we wee Fire Mages do.. play with Fire… just don’t stand in the fire!
Mmmm do I smell additional Crits…. I love the smell of napalm in the morning, afternoon and night!
Umm… did someone say 10% increase… hell (like as in burning in the fires of hell) yeah!
OK, I admit I don’t use this in my raid spec, but when I PvP Fire (and bother to change Spec), this is just awesome… one of those talents that doesn’t look half as good on “paper” as it is when it procs and you have the need.
Pyromaniac, yep, that’s what I am… always have been even as a young Gnome setting fire to my Horde figurines… extra Crit and reduced spell cost… bring it on!
Combustion… mmmmmm, you want Crit.. you got Crit!
Gnome-a-Molten-Fury-geddon! This is where we make the difference in any battle.. Me smell dead bosses…
The one thing better than a Fireball… an Empowered Fireball!
OK, I admit I hesitated at this one… but I can’t live without it. Go on try it, you know you will love it…
Ohhh and don’t be like me, start your final assault before the 20% mark, get that combustion rolling so that last 20% is filled with crits, not just ticks on the combustion icon. Make sure your final top up scorch hits before you pop combustion, don’t waste a crit on your debuff spell.
Don’t fret Larisa, there will always be a place for Arcane, if not in the WoLK damage meters, at least in our memories – the underdog spec that copped so much flack on EJ, only to rise up both in raids and damage calculators to shine as one of, if not the top raiding spec.
Your time will come again, sure come back to the fiery side, but don’t give up on your beloved shiny arcane bolts too quickly, or for too long.
The Mage will be a force to be reckoned with in WoLK, all 3 specs will deal out the hurt that our dear old grand mummy/daddy Gnomes once preached to us about.
SpicyTunas has come up with something to get us over the early humps in the pre-expansion and ensuing expansion… try them out, but don’t QQ, Mages tears are best served with pain… to everyone but Mages.
Long live the Gnome!
Long live the Gnome Mage!
(If only….)
Long live the Gnome Fire Mage with big balls of fire!
Gnomer and Out!

I suppose I better get my word in edgewise, before the battle is considered won. Don’t think that the frozen wrath of cryomancers everywhere will easily be convinced of such arbitrary declarations of victory.
JUST YOU WAIT AND SEE, GNOMER!
I won, I won, I arrgggh…. dead again?
I think it is fair to say that there has been one clear winner in the battle of the mages…
Magekind everywhere.. no matter what Spec, we are all brothers/sisters in death (bringing)
PS: Hey waterboy, I wants a popsicle…
I only have two things to say, my little fiery buddy.
Pew!
And pew!
i confess that i haven’t been paying total attention to the intricacies of the new spec trees, because i figured it is all beta, and it seemed to change every day or so. will you (i hope i hope!) be putting up a recommended set for your loyal fiery followers?
What a lovely last outburst of fireworks, well worthy a fire mage. I’m glad you weren’t lost to the cold side in the end.
I still haven’t made up my mind… Got another 48 hours or so to think about it. Oh dear. Sometimes I just hate decisionmaking. Even though it isn’t like it’s written in stone, after all a respec won’t empty my bank…
But you know. Deciding a spec always feels a bit dramatic, especially since no spec is what it used to be anymore.
See you in the battleground next year!
