Ducking and Weaving – Fire #6

Pyroblast.
Let me say that again, Pyroblast!
OK, one more time with feeling, Pyroblast!
Larisa loves it!
Zupa loves it!
I, errr, whatever…
Pyroblast sounds so good, hurts so bad, but really there is only one reason I would take it without a bit more Arcane to back me up.
Sounds so good.
Huge ball of molten fire – yeah!
Damage over time – oh yeah!
Hurts so bad.
Twice the damage of fireball – oh yeah, yeah!
Takes 6 seconds to cast – oh no, I’m dead!
Why Pyro Sucks!
In PvP a 3 second fireball is usually too long, 6 seconds generally means 6 seconds for your opponent to get loose and teach you about early retirement
Some people like to start with it while grinding – big opening damage, out of the 5 second rule for some mana regen. In reality you can cast 2 fireballs, which if they crit = dead mob and plenty of time to drink.
Some people use it while the tank grabs aggro – 6 seconds with no threat generation, then bam – same difference. You would be better off scorching 4 times.
So why get it if you don’t have PoM?
To get Blast Wave!
Blastwave is awesome – instant fiery AoE, Daze, great visual – awesome.
Another AoE up a budding wizard’s sleeve, is in itself awesome.
Daze, who doesn’t want a mass of mobs or player enemies t
o walk in circles for a second or two, or more.
Great visual - yeah, I know to some visual means nothing, but I can’t count the number of people that have asked
What was that? That was awesome!
Blast Wave is worth the 6 second wait on Pyroblast… Not that I cast pyro!
OK, I admit it, I do occasionally cast it. 6 seconds is enough time to crack another beer, reach into the chip packet, stuff my face, swig my beer, clean my fingers and line up the next cast.
So get it, if for no other reason than to get Blast Wave
One opponent down….
Oh, btw, did you like my nice “I am going to respec Frost” ruse?
Notice Zupa’s silence?
He thinks I am going to raise his undead spirit and defend the undefendable Frost!
Sucka!

With a few cunning words (not bad for a squeaky clean Gnome), I have turned my undead opponent into a turtle, charged up my Pyroblast and removed 50% of my opposition.
Sure I still have to deal with my Arcane blasting foe, but even Einz has gone cold on Frost.
So Larisa, bring on your dinky Arcane utility… We are getting into the favorite part of a a battle for Fire Mages, the last part. This is where our damage is going to multiple. Have a look at your theorycrafting sites, you are all up front damage, us Fire Mages are back end damage dealers, and I am about to ramp it up.
Why Fire Mages are the best lovers!
Which is another reason why Fire Mages make the best lovers (apart from those others mentioned previously). We are there at the end, full of mana and building for the climax.
Gnomer and Out!

Best lovers..maybe second best at a pinch..If you talking best lovers you can’t go past tree druids….
here’s just a few reasons (I could write a whole book about it but us tree druids have a thing about paper)
1 we can instantly get and sustain wood….and we don’t need to take your fancy pills and potions to do this
2 Our natural rhythm is slow and steady. sure when we want to dash we can but we are at least transparent about it….none of this sly blinking
3 When we play we alter our style to suit the occasion. Repetition starts the itch….
- We can start off slow and climax at the back end,
- we can start hard and trail off
- or if it takes ur fancy we can just keep a nice even tempo rolling all night long.
Your pick. Tree druids are here to serve.
4 When we want to spread out love round at party
we party with everyone not just the 4 other people standing close by
5 Not to mention the protection we provide with our shady branches….just be careful that we don’t root you if you stand still for too long.
as they say in the forest “You haven’t been rooted until you’ve been rooted by a tree” (Bumper sticker patent pending)
My fire mage has been pvping a fair bit, and I can count the times Ive done a pyro on one hand. Shes still a bit squishy so I only pyro someone I’ve sheeped because if they dont escape from it stright away I have the under control for those extra seconds I need to cast it.. and whats a better wake up call then a fire ball to your face
[...] Tree Hugger Dave foolishly thinks that Tree’s are better lovers that Fire Mages. [...]
Finally you were done casting this pyroblast post! It took you so long time that I honestly had forgotten about the ongoing war… Very cunning of you. I was taken off-guard! Maybe THAT’S the idea about the 6 sec casting time?
Seriously I feel a little bit disoriented right now when it comes to advocating the arcane tree. I don’t think it’s got to do with the blasting wave you sent, it’s rather the effect of the expansion blues. The things they’ve done to Arcane Blast seems to make deep arcane an impossible spec, even though they mildened the effect slightly i the last patch. I’ve seriously no idea how to spec after the 3.0 patch. I’m looking for guidance!
But OK… We’ll stick to the current available trees in this war. I’ll go back and meditate a bit on it and I’ll see if I’ll come up with some convincing evidence why arcane was the superior spec at least in TBC.
i only rarely use pyroblast these days, especially when i noticed that the damage i was getting was pretty much equal with my regular old fireballs (your advice is appreciated, kind sir, if i’m doing something wrong that this would be this way).
BUT — i totally agree with you about blast wave. it rocks in 360 degrees.
@pugnacious. Geez you are lucky.. I can rarely get a fireball off before my pvp target pops.
@Larisa.. I did a good job of replicating the infinite delay of a pyro didn’t I
Expansion-smansion…. Arcane will be good, as will fire and ice.. the joy of 3.0 is that specs will already be about and you get to play about before dealing with the expansion.
Anyway.. 6 months ago people would have said you were mad for raiding arcane… now days you are mad to raid fire. It will be the same come expansion.
I think the thing that this proves is play what you like.. if you like it enough you will prove it’s worth.
@Prelimar. I had a great time doing the chicken quest wow’ing lowbies with the blastwave.. I love it… I just love it for what it is, and how it looks… as a bonus it does damage!
