Larisa asked the question at the beginning of the month, in response to the success of PlusHeals. At the time it was suggested that we already had Subcreation’s Intelligent Mage discussion.
Now with the demise of Subcreation, I think the question should be reviewed again.
Is Eliist Jerks enough for the vast magority of the Mage population, or is it a little too high end?
Do the various other Mage (and other DPS) forums (Unofficial World of Warcraft, Allakhazam, etc) cater well enough, or should there be another central forum for the Average Gnome Mage on the street?
Should someone create PlusDPS.com?
Gnomer and Out!

If you make it, you should consider calling it “SpellPower”.
(PlusHeal is a named rooted in WoW-BC stats: people ask healers how much +heal they have.
SpellPower would be fit the new question that people will be asking WLK mages: “how much spellpower do you have?”)
I think a Mage forum would be a wonderful idea. I’m a big fan of Elitist Jerks, but having switched servers and mains I now find myself in the low “end-game” content and I feel there is little help to be had there.
A Mage forum would also be a place where I would feel comfortable in joining in on the discussion, something I don’t feel on the EJ forums.
That concludes my 2 cents
Thanks for bringing this up!
More useful than a forum would be the FAQ that grows from it?
Ex: Ghost hit on frostbolt? Are we sure?
Ex: Hunters in PvP? OMGWTFBBQ!
And I would hope for more friendly thready goodness. The 100+ page “This Is The Mage Thread” nature of Elitist Jerks.
And it needs to be moderated like a mofo.
I’m sorry. I typed that last response from my cell phone and it appears to barely make sense.
@ Sonny, it came through perfectly…
I must say, I don’t have the time or ability to put such a site together, and I think it would probably need some of the brains behind SubCreation to make it worthwhile.
I agree that a couple of the problems with EJ are:
1) It’s at the highest level. if you aren’t 70 (or soon 80) then a lot of the information or assistance isn’t available
2) Often the juicy bits are lost within 100′s of pages of discussion. The discussion is great and necessary, but it would be nice if the cream was scooped off the top occasionally and starts a new thread.
I guess WoWWiki is sort of the end of the line for the FAQs.
Ultimately I guess the biggest problem I see with Mage Forums is that they tend to be fractured.
- Top end – covered at EJ
- Low -> Pre-End-End game… misc forums, wiki’s etc
Personally I don’t have a solution, but if anyone stumbles across one, let me know and I will check it out.
