So I had a quick play with Rawr the other day.
I am not 100% sure I like it, but it gave me another source of gear comparison.
I probably gimped it a fair bit by reducing my potential upgrades (fundamentally to zip, cause I am not doing any serious raiding), but my biggest problem was it came back with great options for both my Trash +damage set and my +Spell Hit set… issue is, it was saying use the same gear, just regemmed… I don’t really want to create extra Spellstrike etc sets…
Anyway, the best way for me to upgrade my gear was quite simply to regem to Epic gems.
Sure no worries, so I just need 12 shiny new Epic gems at either 15 badges or 300 gold each.
I have decided against using the gems, as there are 2 badge upgrades I could get, so that comes down to cold hard cash.
Should I spend 3,600 gold regemming my gear?
I will let you decide… poll is over there >>
Gnomer and Out!

I voted against it. I don’t know what new badge gear you’re going for, but maybe it needs to be enchanted and gemmed as well?
I looked for a link to your armory profile but couldn’t find any. Then I looked for Gnomeaggedon in armory and found one lvl 70 fire mage. Is that you or is it one of your fans?
If it’s you I noted some of the gear isn’t enchanted. I’d definitly go for enchants before going for epic gems.
OK, well that is weird. Everything I have I enchant… even the stuff I will never wear
The only exception I can think of is my DPS cloak.. cause I like to live dangerously, so why have subtlety?
Here’s my profile: Gnomeaggedon@Aman’Thul
Enchants are generally dime a dozen for me… I have most of the recipes, and the mats in my bags… so it’s just a case of where to go from here.
Thats what I thought too so I was surprised. It’s really weired. Because the profile you linked to is the same one I looked at. Just that now there are enchants on the stuff…
I can only blame Armory. It dosn’t work properly from time to time, it must have been one of those bad hours when I first looked.
Anyway… if you’ve got the enchants perhaps you could treat yourself with a few gems on gear that won’t be replaced by badge gear?
Well, here’s the thing: is the gear you’re getting and the enchants and the gems and everything suitable for the level of raiding that you’re doing and plan on doing? While being decked out in 2.4 gear and epic gems will make Karazhan raiding easier, it’s completely unnecessary. On the other hand, getting decked out and appropriately geared makes you appear more viable to other raids if you’re looking to join into higher end content or are already in those raids.
It’s all a matter of context.
I think that you’re in Karazhan-range raiding, if I remember correctly. And while I think that self-improvement is awesome, if you’re not planning on going past that point prior to the next expansion than you might not want to spend all of that gold. Instead, I would snag the badge gear as you’ve decided since you’d probably end up using that for a couple of levels and horde the gold.
If you’re looking to go beyond that in raiding, then investing in the gems will benefit you more.
Yeah might save the cash… the way tonights kara is going, I will need it for repairs
In game gold (unless youre a gold buyer/seller) doesnt hold any real value except for that sentimental value. With the amount of inflation that will surely happen with WotLK, you can bet your 3600 gold will be worth a pittance in a few months.
Spend it while it has value unless you have specific plans (buying mats to powerlevel inscription, trying to snipe top wotlk patterns when they show up on the AH for even bigger profits, etc)
Personally I’m a live day-to-day on my dailys type of player, I spend it as soon as I get it. Oddly like real life..hmm. Have fun with it. If you don’t feel the need to regem, don’t. Unless you’re raiding or pvping very seriously expensive min/maxing isn’t really necessary.
Save it. You will be in better gear after a few levels of Northrend anyway. Use that gold to grind up your professions I say.
Profs at max, Money I have, time I don’t, so alt’s are really out of the question… but the rainy day (WoLK) is on my mind.. as I will probably be 2 months “behind the game”, it might come in handy.
But then, cash is easy yo come by
err.. that’s why I am leaving it up to you folk I guess… I’m not fussed… probably wont go further than ZA… assumign I ever get out of Kara… so whatever…
That was me with the ‘Donate it to the beggars’ vote. I can supply a short-list of suitable donation candidates too. Just drop me a line.
You know I was using my 4 fingers and 5 toes to add things up, and this 3,600 would give me about +36 spell damage.. or 100g per +1 damage.
Seems like the same dilemma I had back here with Sunfire.
Same cost 100g per +1 damage.
Retirement fund is looking good.
If there is one thing we can be sure of, gold will be something you want a lot of in Wrath.
Besides, I don’t think you really need to go all out epic gems for your current progression level. It’s not really worth it.
